The year is 1986 and the streets of Singapore are strangely empty. Normally the streets would be buzzing with people and cars.
A homeless man named Barney was running away from a two police officers. Normally this would be the sign of a everyday street crime, but not today.
The two policemen were chasing Barney until they were able to corner him in a seedy alleyway.
“Please come with us sir” the first Policeman said.
“You two are not the police!” Barney replied.
“Please come quietly sir”
“I may not know what’s going on, but your with them lot!”
Barney was referring to the company called SENESCENT. SENESCENT was a company that provided telephones for the local populace. It was also an entertainment company which sends out daily theatre roadshows to entertain the crowds.
However since the company had arrived in Singapore, there have been reports of people going missing. There have also been reports of people acting strangely and not like their normal selves.
“If you will not comply, we will have to use lethal force” the first Policeman said.
“Do what you want, you won’t silence me!” Barney said.
Barney felt the presence of something behind him. He was shocked to see that the plastic bin behind him had suddenly come to life, and was pulling him inside.
The Sixth Doctor was manning the Tardis console. He and his companion Peri had just recently faced Sill and The Ice Warriors.
Peri came in from her bedroom into the console room. Although she had enjoyed her travels with the Doctor, something was eating away at her.
“What’s wrong Peri?” The Doctor asked.
“Nothing”
“There’s something wrong, I know there is”
“How can you tell?”
“You’ve never been this quiet before”
Peri knew that the Doctor meant it as a joke, but it was true.
“I’m homesick” Peri let out
“What?” The Doctor asked.
“I’m homesick”
The Doctor took a few seconds to respond “I thought you liked traveling in the Tardis?”.
“I do but its just that I’ve been missing home recently” Peri replied.
For all his years as a time traveler, The Doctor mostly forgot that his companions had a life outside The Tardis. He knew what it was like to have a Homebase, especially after being exiled to Earth back in his Third Incarnation.
“Do you want to go home Peri?” The Doctor asked sadly.
“Not like that, I just want to check up on the old place” Peri said.
“Then why didn’t you say so?” The Doctor went to flick a few switches.
A few minutes later the Tardis scanner came on and Peri saw a familiar image.
It was the famous Statue of Liberty in all her glory.
“You do know that Lady Liberty isn’t all American” The Doctor asked.
“I know Doctor, I know that she was a gift from France”.
“What year is it?” Peri asked.
“1986” The Doctor said.
“Present Day”
“Yeah”
“What are we waiting for then let’s go” Peri happily said.
Once the Tardis landed in its destination, the doors opened.
“I can’t believe that I’m back home!” Peri exclaimed.
However the pair were shocked to find that they were in a massive garden.
“Where’s lady liberty?” Peri asked while looking around her.
“Think I’ve found her”
Standing before the pair was a miniature version of Lady Liberty. She was now scaled down and the size of a regular statue.
“What happened to her?” Peri asked.
“Look Peri!” The Doctor said pointing in the distance.
The pair were in a massive Cultural garden. There was miniature versions of other world landmarks such as Christ the Redeemer from Rio, Lord Nelsons stature from London and even a mini version of San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge.
“So we aren’t in America?” Peri asked.
“Sorry” the Doctor apologized
“It wasn’t your fault”
The pair left the garden to explore. They went into a alleyway when they saw a group of Ruffians.
“What the hell are you wearing?” One of them said, clearly referring to the Doctors multicolor coat.
“My handmade coat, it may draw attention to itself but it fits” The Doctor said.
“How much do you and your beautiful friend have” the man said eyeing Peri.
“Get lost creep!” Peri said in response.
“Anyway, I’m afraid we don’t have money” The Doctor pleaded.
“Well ain’t that a shame” the gang of men started to gather around the pair.
“And I thought that we were going to be friends” the man then got his knife out and was about to strike.
The group then heard a gunshot in the distance.
“You two come to me” a man said to The Doctor and Peri.
“What do we do?” Peri asked the Doctor
“I say run!” The Doctor said.
The pair then ran towards the stranger. It was either this or be killed by that street gang. Unknown to them, they were being watched on the rooftop by a mysterious blank faced figure.
