Chapter Text
Katsuki Bakugo is not one to put his emotions into an important place in his life. He has goals. And they matter. Only they matter.
He can’t fully trust other than anyone but himself, he can’t open up to anyone. It’s not about the people around him. They are not the problem, he is. Unbeknownst to the others, he is aware of that. But he will not change. He can’t afford to change.
He had people that he trusted before. Well, all of that is a regretful memory now.
‘’You’re lying. He would never do that to me. I don’t believe you.’’ Eijirou has tears spilling down his cheeks, he shakes his head.
Katsuki’s heart drops to his feet. ‘’When did I ever lie to you?’’
‘’I don’t care. I do not believe any word you had-‘’
Anyways, he has goals now. He’s going to leave the country when he graduates college, rent a studio apartment, get a cat and be the best fucking writer out there. Of course, writing is not a race, but he can make a competition out of anything.
He has a routine. He gets up, works out, has breakfast, gets ready and goes to his afternoon classes. Studying English Literature might not be the best idea, but it is going the open the doors to his dreams. It’s hard, but he is never one to back down from a challenge.
-----
The weather is sunny but cold today. He hates it.
Aki looks at him like he’s grown a second head.
‘’Look, you’re a nice person. And you know that I am not. You’ve tolerated me enough, but I can’t fool either of us anymore. It’s done.’’
‘’What do you mean it is done?’’ Poor Aki looks dumbfounded.
‘’Us.’’ Katsuki is determined to get this shit over with.
‘’Katsuki, what the hell? We’ve been together for almost 2 years. Is this the right way to end our relationship?’’ He sounds angry, but looks disappointed.
He doesn’t know how to tell him that he wasted both of their time. That he fell out of love, maybe never even loved him. Both possibilities are equally shitty, he’s going to break a boy’s heart that doesn’t deserve it at all.
So what if he realized he has no idea that what love is at age 21? It can happen.
‘’Is there a right way to break your heart, hah?’’ He is starting to get angry. Is this so hard to understand?
‘’You’re serious.’’
‘’Yeah, no shit.’’
Aki just looks at him. With that love-filled puppy eyed looks which Katsuki is always sure he never returned.
‘’Look, I don’t want to cut you off. You’re important to me, you’ve dealt with my shit for a long time. I’m not gonna pull that ‘’You deserve better.’’ bullshit. We both know I am the best. But not for you.’’
-----
The ride home is silent. He doesn’t listen any songs, which is weird because his Spotify is always on.
He did the right thing. Yeah.
But it didn’t feel better.
Even Izuku says he made the right decision. He shouldn’t waste Aki’s time, making him think Katsuki loves him and plans a future with him.
Because he does not. When he dreams of future, he is always alone.
-----
Weeks goes by blink of an eye. He feels hollow but between school, spending time with Hanta or Izuku, he keeps himself busy.
He goes to the coffee shop he hasn’t visited for a long time, just for a change, for an escape from his very precious routine.
When he goes in, he directly walks to the register with his eyes wondering around to find a place to settle for a while. But with the sight of the three bright colors, he stops in his tracks. First, he feels his heart trying to get out of his ribcage, then, he feels his blood boiling.
Eijirou is here.
They didn’t see each other since almost two years.
He’s laughing and probably making stupid jokes with Mina and Denki. His old friends. The friends who left him, who took Eijirou’s side, even if there was nothing to pick sides, even if Katsuki did nothing wrong. (Except the outburst of anger because of the events.)
He just stands, dumbfounded. Then Mina looks up and finally notices him, eyes with thick, black eyeliner widening, mouth becoming the shape of an ‘’o’’. Katsuki snaps out of his trance. Their presence is not going to change his plans. He’s going to get that stupid cup of coffee. To go.
‘’Kat- Bakugou!’’
Shit.
He turns to see Mina, with a sheepish smile. He thought he was in good terms with her, and Katsuki doesn’t think that way about many people, but damn, back to last name basis, huh?
He does not return the smile, awkwardly raises his hand. ‘’Hey.’’
Then he keeps walking, and as he predicted, Mina follows him to the line. ‘’How have you been? It’s been such a long time.’’
‘’Not my fault that you guys left me along with him.’’ He wants to say, but he does not.
‘’Yeah. I am doing fine. What about, uhm,’’ He tries not to look at Eijirou’s direction. ‘’You?’’
Mina blinks at him and it makes Katsuki seriously angry. Then she shakes her head like a dog, and a smile appears on her face.
‘’Sorry, you normally never ask back. In fact, you normally grunt, like-‘’
‘’Yeah, yeah I am a normal human being now, shocking. A year changes a lot, Racoon Eyes.’’ Katsuki unapologetically interrupts her, surprising her again. She’s starting to look really guilty, Katsuki thinks, but he doesn’t care about it, so he’s not going to do anything about it.
‘’Not with the nicknames apparently. Hey, why won’t you come sit with us? We got so much to catch up.’’ She gestures the table, and Katsuki fights with the urge to look at that direction.
He wins, of course.
‘’Uh, actually I got coffee to go. I gotta meet with Izuku.’’ She wouldn’t understand that’s a lie, right?
But the excuse doesn’t stop her either. ‘’Just for 15 minutes Blasty, come on. I’m sure sweet Izuku wouldn’t mind you being just a few minutes late.’’
He gives in, just to see the look on Eijirou’s face. Then he’ll leave.
