Work Text:

Sinking down, barely below the surface. Arms staying afloat, hands able to break through the endless mass only to lightly touch the top.
Light piercing the façade, reaching determined for the deep yet losing its strength as the journey continues. Fading out into nothingness as the dark swallows everything that stretches out for it.

Shivering, draping limbs around one another as if to shield from the sudden coolness brought by seemingly mocking currents as they ruffle hair in an attempt to remind of what was lost.
The felt warmth lent by rays disappearing slowly, dissipating into bubbles leaving bare skin to be coated in growing crystals of ice, sparkling daringly, taunting as the shadows gently engulf all they see.

Head drifting upwards, eyes sluggishly opening, widening in horror and wonder, mouth agape, eyebrows raised in surprise.
Heart pounding, blood rushing, ears filled with static, mind blank.
Water pushing past clenched teeth, running swiftly, devouring greedily, ruining lovingly.

Watching, helplessly, as the gleams quickly vanish, body being pulled towards the never-ending abyss, descending further and further into eternal oblivion.

Lance awoke with a gasp, torso hunched forward, arms at each side of his head, hands gripping his nestled hair as tightly as he could. Shivers rattling his frame, breaths choking him.

Eyes disorientated, frantically scanning, searching, studying his environment.
Heart palpitating, pulsing under his skin, trembling limbs zapping as though he has been electrocuted. Skull throbbing, a splitting headache worming its way through his senses, causing the world to turn white.

His body giving up on itself, collapsing, folding together, forming a puddle of limbs as though he was a doll whose strings have been cut off.
The last thing Lance took notice of before he lost consciousness was a single tear rolling down his cheek, reflecting the light in the dim room, shimmering in a teasing way.
