’’What’s that?’’ Were the first words that left his six-year-olds mouth the second she met her baby brother for the first time. TK and Carlos never planned on having another child; their hands were full with their michevious and strong-willed daughter, and they were perfectly content just being the three of them. That was until Luna met her cousin for the first time, Judd and Grace’s new daughter, and the couple shared a look with each other that promised they’d have another.
Felix Strand-Reyes, the name being credit to Luna’s current Encanto obsession, was born on a cold winters day in November of 2031, and instantly, Carlos and TK knew that adding another member to their family was the right decision. He was beautiful - his eyes already showing speckles of green. He was perfect, and the husbands couldn’t believe how lucky they were; how lucky they were to have created a family that made every piece of them fit together effortlessly.
’’ He, is your little brother, Luna. His name is Felix. Do you want to come and say hi?’’ TK had said with slight laughter to his voice, holding the small bundle in his arms as Carlos held the little girl. ’’No, thank you.’’ Luna had replied, shaking her head surely. ’’He’s a bit gross.’’ Unable to keep his amusement in any longer, TK had burst out laughing, receiving a playful glare from Carlos. ’’Sorry, sorry.’’ TK had muttered, looking over at his husband in amusement.
’’Sometimes babies come out looking a little gross, Luna, but he won’t always look like this. How about you come over here and tell Felix all about Encanto, huh?’’ Upon hearing TK refer to Encanto, Luna had begun to nod, and Carlos brought the six-year-old over to TK’s side to finally meet her little brother properly.
Luna took a seat on TK’s knee, looking down at her new baby brother. Her fathers couldn’t help but watch over them both in love, joy and contentment. They had gone through a lot; fires, kidnaps, breakups, comas and enough traumas to write a book and start a documentary, and yet, in this moment, none of those mattered. The only thing they felt was pure bliss, bliss to have gotten this life, bliss through the way their hearts had once been broken and now were put perfectly back together.
Carlos had pulled up a seat next to his husband and children, and gently placed a kiss on his husband’s forehead. ’’He’s got your eyes.’’ Carlos whispered, looking down at their tiny son. ’’He has. Since Luna has yours, I thought it was about time we’d have one to give you the puppy dog eyes that are quite frankly, the constant death of me. You try saying no to a child that has the exact same eyes as your soulmate.’’
Carlos chuckled in response, letting his finger rest in his son’s tiny hand, a warm expression plastering his face when the newborn gripped his finger almost automatically. Carlos was besotted, the little boy had instantly won his heart just like his husband and daughter had. It was obvious in the detectives eyes that he could probably start crying out of pure joy at any given moment. ’’Don’t you start crying, Reyes, else I’ll start too.’’
’’That’s Strand-Reyes to you.’’ Carlos responded, receiving a half eye roll-half playful glare off TK. ’’I just.. I can’t believe this is our life, you know? We’ve been through so much, so goddamn much, TK, and yet, here we are, with our daughter and our son. Our children, TK. We have children. Children who we get to love and protect and care for, forever.’’ He rambled on, TK both watching and listening to the other man with a sparkle in his eye and the softest look on his face.
’’Forever, Carlos.’’
