Summary:

Edison thinks she can get spoilers out of Lucy.

Work Text:

“Hang on, what happened to Aziraphale? Why haven’t you mentioned him since he went back to the cave?” asked Edison.

Lucille looked up from the book. Edison’s instant feedback was her favorite part of reading to her. “Good eye,” she said.

“This book’s almost over… Don’t tell me I have to wait until you finish the next one to find out!” said Edison.

“Now you know how all of my other readers feel,” Lucille sighed.

“C’mon, gimme a hint,” Edison said as she started to softly poke Lucille’s ribs.

Lucille seized up. She looked away from Edison with eyes tightly shut, gritting her teeth through a grin. “Kh. Edison.”

“Huh? What was that? Speak up!” said Edison.

“That. Tickles!”

Edison stopped. But when Lucille looked back and saw the constellations shining in Edison’s eyes, she knew she had made a grave error.

Lucille couldn’t remember the last time anyone had tickled her. Despite the overwhelming urge to push Edison’s hands away, she was surprised by how good it felt. Was that just because of who was doing it to her? She hoped the heat rising in her cheeks at that thought would be attributed to her laughter.

Edison’s words really were not helping. “Holy shit. Are you giggling? No way! You’re not allowed to be this cute! That’s gotta be— WAAH!”

Lucille found the strength to fight back, launching a counterstrike on Edison’s sides. Edison fell down to the couch cushions, cackling. She gently pushed at Lucille’s arms, but notably made no attempt to roll out of the way.

“If I didn’t know any better, I’d almost think you were enjoying this,” said Lucille.

“What?! No!” Edison managed to get out between laughs.

“Right, right. That’s why you haven’t stopped me,” said Lucille.

“I’m not a quitter!” said Edison.

“Of course,” said Lucille. “You look super tough right now. Not adorable at all.”

“SHUT UUUUUP!”

Call it guardian angel instinct, but Lucille could tell it was time to let up and let Edison breathe. Her resulting contented sigh sent a shiver down Lucille’s spine. Edison’s eyes widened when she met Lucille’s gaze, suddenly just as flustered. Lucille became aware of their positions, Edison splayed out beneath her with Lucille’s hands on either side of her shoulders, and her knee between her legs. Only the sounds of their beating hearts and shallow breath filled the air, until… Lucille cleared her throat, steadied herself back into sitting up, and retrieved the fallen book from the ground.

“So. Um. Where did we leave off?”

“Y’know what I just remembered just now that I need to take a shower,” said Edison.

“Yes, quite. You do that.” Lucille chugged the rest of her tea as Edison scampered off.
