all i want

Summary:

They got caught up in the moment, Eddie just cradling Steve’s face as he placed soft kisses on the other’s lips. They were so caught up, that they didn’t hear the footsteps walking down the stairs.

Eddie heard a loud gasp of surprise from behind him, and threw himself off of Steve when he’d realized they’d been caught. He turned to see Dustin of all people standing at the foot of the stairway, covering his eyes like he’d just seen something horrific.

“Sorry, just needed my, uh, my bag. Forgot it down here. I’ll just grab it tomorrow, it’s fine.” The kid turned to run up the stairs, but still apparently had his eyes covered as he ran into the railing and stumbled.

Work Text:

Things were going great for Eddie and Steve.

They’d gone on a few lowkey dates within the past few months, usually just a movie or grabbing something to eat while they kept a good distance since neither of the two really wanted slurs thrown at them. Eddie didn’t really care what they did together, he just wanted to be with Steve so he didn’t really mind. Although, he did relish in the moments they spent at each other’s houses when he could kiss Steve until his lips hurt.

They spent a lot of time together, whenever they could. Eddie would come in frequently while Steve was working, normally just to bother him and occasionally to rent a movie that they would probably watch together later that night when Steve got off work. Wherever Steve was, Eddie usually wasn’t that far behind. Robin had even accused them of being ‘practically attached at the hip’.

Today though, Eddie was meeting with the Hellfire Club for a D&D session at the Wheelers. Steve had fallen asleep in Eddie’s trailer the previous night, so when Eddie had attempted to get up and start getting ready, Steve kept pulling him down and mumbling for five more minutes.

After about half an hour of allowing himself to be wrapped in Steve’s arms, he decided he really should start getting up. He placed a quick kiss against Steve’s lips before rolling himself off the bed.

“Do you really have to go?” Steve groaned, sitting up and rubbed the backs of his hands against his eyes.

“Yeah, love, they can’t really do it without me.” Eddie said as he threw on his Hellfire shirt that laid on the ground. “You could always come with?”

He could tell Steve was thinking it over for a second, before moving his body so that his legs were hanging off the bed. Eddie dug through his drawers for a moment, then throwing an Iron Maiden shirt at Steve. It was one of his favorites, and he knew Steve liked the way it felt on him and the fact it smelled like Eddie.

Steve slid the shirt on with ease then leaning over to grab the pair of jeans he’d left on the floor the night before. He pushed his hips in the air to slide them over his waist. Eddie watched him with adoration bursting in his heart. He could’ve exploded just looking at how comfortable and beautiful Steve looked wearing his clothes.

Once Steve was fully dressed, he quirked up an eyebrow at Eddie, who was still trying not to face plant over how pretty Steve looked all the while sliding on his own pair of jeans.

“See something you like, Munson?”

“Yeah,” was all Eddie could mumble before taking a few steps to stand in between Steve’s legs that still dangled off the side of his bed.

Steve tilted his head upward, to meet his eyes with Eddie. There was a look on his face that made Eddie’s heart soften even  more, which he didn’t even think was possible at this point. He couldn’t stop himself from cupping his hands on the side of Steve’s face and dipping down to kiss him softly.

They stayed like that for a few minutes, neither of them wanting the moment to end.

They eventually made their way to the Wheeler’s house, where today’s meeting was being held. The pair said quick hellos to Karen Wheeler before making their way to the basement.

“You’re late!” Dustin threw at accusatory finger toward Eddie, before noticing Steve behind him. “What are you doing here?”

Steve was clearly racking his brain for an excuse that was not just because he might die if he wasn’t in the same room as Eddie. He just shrugged.

“We…uh, I convinced him to come watch us play for today, and if he was still uninterested I promised to stop annoying him about playing with us.” Eddie spoke quickly when he realized Steve couldn’t come up with anything.

“Oh, cool.” was all Dustin said before they started setting up to play.

And so they did.

It began to get late, and Mike’s mother had called down to them about four times now that they needed to start packing up for the night.

Steve had sat on the couch not too far from where the party sat, and he’d watched them for the majority of the day. Occasionally he would go grab snacks for everyone, and he’d even dozed off for a little while but Eddie couldn’t really be mad about it when he looked so peaceful. He got a little distracted a few times staring at Steve, they’d exchange soft glances at each other as Eddie would do his theatrical storytelling.

The kids had started to pile out of the basement, and Eddie had a few more things to collect before the two could leave. Steve still sat on the couch, waiting patiently for the other man.

“Y’know, it’s real hot watching you play. I might just have to come more often.” Steve spoke once it was just them.

Eddie’s heart leaped. “Yeah, you just might.”

He made his way over to the couch, moving so that he was straddling Steve’s lap with his legs.

“I think it made the kids real happy that you were here, they’ve only been begging you since forever.”

Steve threw his head back and laughed, running his hand absentmindedly through Eddie’s hair. “And what about you?”

“What about me?”

“Did you want me to come?”

Eddie furrowed his eyebrows down at Steve, because of course he did. “Obviously, I was the one who offered you to come. I couldn’t keep my eyes off of you half the time, though. The party was getting a little agitated about me being distracted.”

“Oh, so I’m a distraction to you?” Steve smirked, leaning in close to the other man so that Eddie could feel his hot breath on his face. It sent shivers down Eddie’s spine.

“The best.” Eddie finally moved his head down to kiss Steve like he’d been itching to all day.

Steve kissed back quickly, and he moved his lips against Eddie’s as if he was as desperate for it as Eddie was.

“Hey, Dustin!” Steve was the one to run after him as Eddie just sat back in shock.

The two had discussed telling the kids, but Eddie really didn’t want it to go down that way. He felt guilty, almost. Eddie took a moment before deciding to find where they went off to.

He found them outside by Steve’s car, talking. He couldn’t make out what they were saying until he got closer, but Dustin was waving his hands around as Steve was clearly trying to calm him down.

“I just can’t believe you didn’t tell me, man.” Dustin pinched the bridge of his nose. “It’s nice to know my two dads are getting along but hooking up?! Jeez dude, that’s a lot. My brain might implode.”

“We aren’t hooking up, Henderson.” Eddie interrupted, causing Steve to turn around as he hadn’t known he was behind him.

“Don’t tell me you guys are dating and haven’t told me!” Dustin whined.

“Well.” Eddie spoke, not really knowing what else to say.

“Hey, we’re going to grab milkshakes. You should come with, and we can actually explain this situation to you before you spontaneously combust. Then we can drop you off at home.”

Dustin hesitated for a moment, clearly feeling really awkward about the situation. “Let me just…just run inside and call my mom real quick.”

Steve got in the car on the driver’s side to start the vehicle, and Eddie followed, getting in on the passenger’s side. The car was filled with silence for a minute, and Eddie leaned his head back against the headrest of the seat and sighed.

“That went great.” His voice was full of sarcasm.

“Hey,” Steve leaned over the center console to look at Eddie in the eyes and attempted to soothe him by brushing his hand up and down Eddie’s arm. “It’s okay. He’s not mad, he just wants an explanation.”

“I know,” Eddie said, “I just feel like we should’ve told him sooner instead of him finding out by walking in on us making out.”

Steve nodded in agreement, then pressed a soft kiss to Eddie’s cheek before leaning back in his seat.

Dustin opened the door of the car and slid into the back seat a few minutes later. “I have to be home by 11, but we’re good.”

And so they made their way to the only local restaurant they could find that was still open at this time.

Dustin sat across from Eddie and Steve, playing with the straw in his milkshake. “Sooo…”

“So.” Eddie looked down at his hands, feeling really awkward in this moment. It almost reminded him of the awkwardness of Eddie’s parents taking him out for a good dinner when he was 13 before telling him they were shipping him off to live with his uncle after he was apparently ‘too much’ for them to handle. He remembered being so excited for the dinner, since his parents were never really around for him. They said they thought it would be good for him, but they wouldn’t say that it was because they never really wanted him in the first place. They were just tired of dealing with his needs so they sent him off, and never spoke a word to him again.

Eddie sighed, resorting to playing with the straw in his own milkshake. Steve glanced over at him with concerned eyes and cleared his throat to speak since Eddie clearly wouldn’t.

“We started dating a few months ago. It sort of just…happened. We were going to tell you really .”

This felt a little dramatic. Trying to explain to a fourteen year old that his two best friends and practically father figures in his life have a relationship that’s something more than platonic.

“A few months?!” Dustin exclaimed, the few people in the restaurant turning their heads at the sudden noise.

“Shh!” Steve hushed, waving his hand at an attempt to calm Dustin down. “We were waiting for the right time and it’s…not really easy when we’re, y’know, us.”  He motioned between him and Eddie.

“What he means is that we just have to be really careful about who we tell.” Eddie finally spoke up.

Dustin looked down. “Yeah, I get it. But you guys can trust me with that, you know that right? I don’t think any differently of either of you.”

Eddie nodded, bumping his knee and the side of his leg against Steve’s. “Yeah, thanks Henderson.”

They finished their milkshakes quickly, keeping the rest of their conversations light.

They returned Dustin to his home a few minutes from 10. Eddie let out a heavy breath of relief as soon as the door closed behind him.

“You okay?” Steve asked before pulling his car out of park.

“Yeah,” Eddie blew out another dramatic breath, “that was just like, a lot.”

“Yeah, it was.” Steve agreed, taking his eyes off the road for half a second to meet Eddie’s eyes. “But he handled it well, and I’m glad he finally knows.”

“Me too.” It felt like a significant weight was lifted off his chest.

They were then silent for a few minutes, and the conversation was over. The radio was playing in the background quietly, some song by Wham! that Eddie couldn’t name off the top of his head. Steve always had the popular hits station on, and Eddie would always complain. Steve would always smack Eddie’s hand away playfully before saying ‘My car, my rules, Munson.’

Eddie never minded, really. Only because sometimes Steve would hum to the songs, or sometimes sing them softly. Occasionally if he was feeling real dramatic when a stupid love song would come on, he would belt them out for Eddie and put on a whole show.

Eddie smiled stupidly thinking about it. He really did love Steve.

They hadn’t said those words to each other yet. It was kind of something they stepped around, not really ready to say it just yet, but always knew.

“Mine or yours?” Steve asked after a while of aimlessly driving around.

“Yours.”

Eddie almost passed out as soon as he hit the mattress of Steve’s bed.

The emotional stress he’d endured in the past few hours really started to catch up to him. He closed his eyes, but he could hear Steve rummaging in his dresser drawers trying to find clothes for the two to sleep in. A few moments later he felt heavy pieces of fabric hitting his chest.

He sat up and changed quickly, really only wanting to fall asleep with Steve wrapped around him.

Steve finished changing a few seconds later, making his way to curl under the blanket next to Eddie.

“Hey,” Steve spoke once they were both settled, leaning so he could stare Eddie in the face.

Steve looked in a way Eddie could only describe as soft. His hair was falling in his eyes and he looked at Eddie like he held the world in his hands. It made his heart beat hard in his chest, and he suddenly felt so much affection and adoration for this man that it hurt.

“Hey,” he replied softly.

“You did great today.”

“You did, too.” Eddie reached to brush some of the hair out of Steve’s eyes.

“I’m sure the other kids will take it just fine, too. It’ll take time, but it’ll be alright, okay?”

Eddie hummed in agreement, leaning in closer to Steve so he could press his lips against the other’s. Steve quickly reciprocated, placing his hand on Eddie’s waist to bring him even closer.

“You’re amazing, Eddie Munson.”

“You’re even more amazing, Steven Harrington.” Eddie placed another kiss to the man’s lips.

“It’s just Steve.” He laughed against Eddie’s mouth and he swear he felt himself floating.

“Stop ruining the moment.”

Then they were kissing again, Steve having slid his hand up into Eddie’s shirt to grip at him and Eddie was running his thumb idly at the back of the other man’s neck. Everything about this moment was perfect, Eddie has never felt more at ease and full of love.

“I love you.” He suddenly found himself blurting out, causing Steve to pull back for a moment.

Steve’s hand still rested on the hot skin of Eddie’s side. He stared at him with such a soft expression that Eddie knows is for his eyes only. He felt like he might he explode at that thought.

“I love you, too, Eddie. I really really do.”

And Eddie’s lips found their way to Steve’s once again, because he couldn’t help but do otherwise. He wanted to kiss Steve until he fell asleep that night.

Eddie licked his way into Steve’s mouth, pulling him impossibly closer by the back of his neck. Steve groaned when their tongues met, and Eddie felt his hips twitch at the sound. The hand Steve had under his shirt moved so that he pulled Eddie’s entire front against his by the small of his back. He felt hot all over.

He bit at the Steve’s bottom lip, which caused him to roll his hips into Eddie’s. He felt a soft sigh escape his throat, and felt a bit embarrassed that something as simple as kissing was currently getting him hard, but he couldn’t find it in himself to keep his mouth off of Steve. He wished they could stay like this forever.

He moved down to suck at Steve’s neck, who then let out a sound that was something between a moan and a sigh Eddie could feel under his mouth.

“Eddie,” Steve groaned out, “It’s late, we should really sleep.”

“Sorry,” he spoke as he finally pushed himself back to look Steve in the face, “you just awaken something in me.”

Steve breathed out a laugh, clearly still exasperated from moments before. “You’re so weird.”

That probably would’ve stung having come from anyone else. But it was Steve, and he only meant it in the most affectionate manner. And he loved him.

They felt asleep that night, tangled in each other’s limbs and knowing that they loved each other and that was all they ever really needed.
