The lunar beast and her mermaid

Summary:

Selen grips her wrist tightly, feeling her nails slowly morph into claws, her skin into scales and her teeth sharpening into needles. Drool dripped down her jaw from boiling instincts while tears rolled down her cheeks. They mixed together, both clear liquids but one carried more pain than the other.

Work Text:

Selen grips her wrist tightly, feeling her nails slowly morph into claws, her skin into scales and her teeth sharpening into needles. Drool dripped down her jaw from boiling instincts while tears rolled down her cheeks. They mixed together, both clear liquids but one carried more pain than the other.

“It’s a full moon tonight!” Petra said excitedly, a light tail wag follows. “Not sure why you’re so excited, butttttttt, it’s pretty i guess.” Reimu floats close by, passing a peck to the penguin’s cheek before turning to Enna. “Your opinion on it? I’m curious.” She asked the songbird. She shrugs. “Eh, it’s pretty. That’s kinda it.”

Her head wings flutter before she continues. “Anyways where’s my kiss?” The ghost sighs at that, and passes her a kiss. “Hey me too!!” Millie perks up from behind the couch. Another exasperated sigh comes from Reimu. “Goddammit, be glad I love you three.”

“Guys, we’re watching a movie.” Selen said annoyingly, waving her draconic hand at them before throwing a popcorn kernel at Petra’s face. “Shut the fuck up Selen.” The penguin crosses her arm, the dragon laughs at that.

Yet despite displaying her usual mischievous mood. The Lunar sky dragon was incredibly, incredibly nervous. Something that was rather unusual for her.

Her mind fills with thoughts of anxiety. “How wrong can today go.” She chuckles nervously in her thoughts. Her double colored eyes freeze while her cheeky grin remains, making Selen looking very odd, especially while staring directly at the penguin.

Then suddenly, she feels a pat on her back. “Selen? You ok?” Came Finana’s voice, one that always seemed to put her at ease no matter what she was going through. “Yeah? What ya want? I’m fine” She waves with her right hand and laughs it off, trying her best to ignore what she’s gonna need to deal with tonight.

—————————

A muffled growl escapes her mouth, saliva dripping down like a broken water tap. Her tongue -now forked- hangs down, like a hungry animal. Selen tries her best to force her mouth to close but they always instinctively re-open. The lunar dragon sniffs, feeling the way her primal instincts overtake her mind, and the way her jaw stretches and elongates.

She covers her left eye with her hand, that part of her face being overtaken by purple and black scales. Her tail thrashes violently behind her as it morphed, slowly growing longer. Along with the wings that are slowly stretching from Selen’s back, ripping the sweater she was wearing then. “Fuck, not another one” She laughs at how frankly powerless she felt, her chest shaking and trembling in protest.

The dragon slams her head against the wall, her right hand -now looking like how her left hand usually looked- grips and claws at the wallpaper. A ripped trail of paper follows her nails as she sobs incoherently. “Fuck…fuck me.”

She wants to bite, to burn. To feel the night wind in her wings and giving no care for what surrounded her. To see the destruction, the fear in everyone’s eye. To see them witness the lunar sky dragon’s wrath.

But…no. Selen is…different now, far different from what she used to be. She was more intouch with her human side. With friends, family, relationships. People she cared about deeply from the bottom of her heart. People she wanted to protect.

But that fire….it burns, it burns . So. So deeply inside her core, a wildfire blazing against the people trying to put it out. The fire that’s burning all of her critical thinking, letting the chains to her old self drop. And to that she sobs, and cries. Cause this isn’t the true her.

There’s furious knocking on the door, and a concerned and desperate voice. “Selen?? Hello? Are you okay?” She recognized it as Finana. She turned around, her back and wings facing the wall and stared at the door. Her hand briefly uncovers the scaly part on her face.

A pained whimper escaped her throat, tail thrashing violently and knocking over something on a nightstand. “Selen! Can you please just…let me in?” The mermaid asked further, worry laced in her tone as the knocking continued.

“Finana…Finana! Please….lea..ve..me…alone..” The dragon’s voice practically rumbled out, deep and raspy. But scared. She was scared, so so scared. She didn’t….want to hurt anyone. Especially Finana. So she buries herself deeper into her own pain, only being able to wait until the moon returns to its hiding.

Silence hangs in the air, with only the knocking being her white noise. “Selen! Selen! Please…I just want to help you. Please open the door, or I'm gonna get the keys.” She sounds so desperate, so worried. It makes her feel like absolute shit, a jackass. “How can you even help me…if I can't even help myself?”

Her elongated ears twitch uncomfortably, picking up the sound of footsteps walking away from her. And a hesitant sigh of relief was let out. “Alone…again.” Selen closes her eyes and tries to focus on the rapid pounding of her chest instead of the aggressive draconic instincts in her brain…

.

.

.

The lunar sky dragon lets out a shaky breath, hands hugging her knees aggressively. She doesn’t feel the need to burn, to bite, to roar. It’s not ripping her, at least right now. It doesn’t take too long for her to piece two parts together.

“Fin…ana?” Selen didn’t even know…how simply hearing her voice made her calm down. She stares at her clawed and draconic hands, the way they briefly shrink before growing to their enlarged size. And she feels the way her feral part ignites up again.

“…please come back…soon” The dragon could only wish hopefully, and as soon as possible.

And maybe just this time, something above decided to answer her call.

The doorknob turns quickly, the sound of a key behind it. “I’m coming in Selen!” Finana seemed to warn. And to that she stands up, the first time after huddling close to the corner of the wall. Her leg became digitigrade, purple scales covering it all with black and whites scales taking the spacw on her foot.

Her steps are shaky, arms hugging herself so tightly as drool dripped to the ground. The door swings open and she sees the mermaid, in her usual yellow hoodie and her hair down. That awakened some form of deeper instincts in her. “Selen-“

In a flash of primal impulsion, Selen sprinted straight at Finana, tackling her down to the ground with a loud thud and hugging her tightly. Like a predator to its prey, growling deeply. Yet she showed no sign of actual aggression via the wagging and pattern changing tail behind her.

“S-S-Sel-en. You c-clingy dum-dummy” She wheezes out, struggling to talk with the crushing bear hug Selen is giving her. The dragon replies with nothing, but a blink of realization. “E-eh-“ Selen blurts out before panicking and getting off of her. “I’m sorry i’m sorryi’msorryi’msorry-“

Despite the profuse apologies, Finana could only laugh lightly at it, before crawling over to the trembling Selen, wrapping her in a tight hug, calming her shaking form down. But her sobs are still evident and loud. She soaks her hoodie in saliva and tears. “It’s ok, you big baby.” The mermaid laughs, rubbing circles on her back.

Her wings unfurl and flap while her tail curls closer to Finana’s form. Claws wrapped around her back and big form leaning on the mermaid’s.

.

.

.

Her form shrinks down, arms and legs as well. Her scales turn back into normal human skin, yet her grip is still iron tight. Selen’s purple feathered wings recede back into her skin and torn clothing. Along with them her sobs calm down into light sniffles, silence filling the space Finana’s voice isn’t filling.

The lunar sky dragon mumbles, and then rumbles out a softer noise. A purr-like noise. “…sorry..I made…you go through…all that tr…ouble.” Selen apologies timidly which only earns a soft smile.

“It’s ok! We’re all here for you, y’know?” The mermaid gives a peck on her cheek

It doesn’t take too long for the both of them to fall asleep, right on the floor.

—————————

“Hey…guys?” A soft voice -not Finana’s- speaks to the two, a hand waving in front of the duo. Selen groans and only peaks her eyes open. “Urgh….Ro…Rosemi?” She replies, voice barely audible. “Oh pluck! You’re alive!” The rose maiden exclaims quietly, “You two were kinda loud yesterday! I got up to check out and saw you two passed out on the floor.”

She doesn’t seem to judge, and only showed concern to the duo. “Oh…Oh! Uh-“ Selen starts panicking at the confusing situation, and tries to get up. However she gets pulled back down by the mermaid who was still snoozing away. “I um, just needed some comfort, yeah.” The dragon partially explains, letting out a softer version of her signature laugh.

Rosemi nods in understanding and leaves, leaving the just awoken Selen slightly flustered, but also concerned about yesterday.

Maybe she can worry about it later, she’s fine now… With Finana.
