Chapter 1: Out of the Comfort Zone

Chapter Text

I'd decided against streaming today. I hadn't had one planned, but was debating doing one anyways. Though I wasn't in the mood for the typical Apex stream.

I was playing on a survival world I'd had set to peaceful so I could farm and build without having to worry about getting blown up by creepers every five seconds. In the background I had Emma's stream going.

She was playing among us with some other content creators that had blown up because of the game. I'd checked out a few of them, and wound up watching their content regularly. However, I'd actually been watching Corpse for years. His horror story narrations had been the background noise to everything from cooking to study sessions to trying to come down from a panic attack. Seeing him blow up made me happy, he deserved the success, though I still felt some disappointment over the fact that he was no longer something only a few of us knew about.

So knowing Emma, someone I'd been close with for years, was friends with him had certainly been shocking. She wasn't aware of the fact that he had been a comfort creator for me for years, and I wasn't planning on telling her. But I liked seeing their interactions.

I'd been only half paying attention to the stream, focused mostly on trying to finish up the building I'd created for my bee farm. I was jolted from my concentration upon hearing Emma say my name.

"...y/u/n who might be up for it. They're pretty chill."

Wait, what was going on?

I reminded the stream a bit to see that they were trying to find someone to fill in the tenth spot as someone else had to leave unexpectedly. Why was Emma suggesting me? Surely the others had plenty of people who'd love to step in.

My phone ringing with a call from Emma sent anxiety spiking in my stomach.

"Hey! I've been playing among us and we could use another person. You in? Everyone is really nice, you should practice some positive socializing."

I hesitated.

"I'm not sure..." I said, "Aren't there others they already know who'd like to be there?"

"Yeah probably but I'd like you to be here. Would be nice to have more than just one person I'm comfortable with here."

"Emma..."

"Come on y/n it'll be great. You'll only really have to talk in meetings and I can just talk for you. I promise I'll kill you first when I get imposter."

You chuckled at that.

Your anxiety was telling you it'd be a disaster, but you also knew Emma would be there and would let you leave if you needed to. Your therapist had also suggested getting out of your comfort zone occasionally.

Surely it couldn't be that bad?

"Alright, I guess I can play a few games."

"Dude fuck yeah! Give me a second, I'll get you in the discord and everything." She said excitedly.

After a few minutes of getting everything in order, starting your stream after some pressure from Emma, and figuring out the proximity chat mod, your mouse hovered over the vc everyone was in.

"OK chat, welcome to a surprise among us stream I was not aware was happening until a few minutes ago. I'm meeting new people. Let's see how much of a train wreck this is." You joked.

"Alright y/n you got this. It'll be a one time thing so it's no big deal. Have fun with it. You can even kill Emma a few times for getting you to do this." You thought to yourself before finally clicking on the tab.

"There they are, everyone this is y/u/n, small time Twitch streamer and epic gamer." Emma introduced you.

You took a deep breath.

"Um hi, thanks for having me." You said. You cringed at the clear awkwardness and uncomfort in your voice. But the barrage if happy hellos and welcomes eased it.

"Wow, no reaction to Corpses voice huh? Thats a first." Someone laughed. You were pretty sure it was Rae.

You joined in on the laughter as everyone chuckled, not really wanting to explain you were a fan.

After a few moments the game started and you were greeted with the starting screen.

Just an average crewmate this time, no pressure on the first game thankfully.

"Ok chat let's do some tasks and try not to die immediately."

Chapter 2: Sussy Game

Summary:

Trying to talk to your chat while using proximity chat in among us can result in some interesting conversations.

Notes:

This is not based on a specific game that was played, I am 100% making this shit up.

My writing is also low key awkward but it's fine. Hopefully will get better as it goes along. Might edit it in the future to sound better?

Chapter Text

You quickly did your keys task before wandering out of dropship and heading straight to medbay, quietly doing your task at the spaceship while you listened to snippets of conversation as other players walked by.

You thanked a dono before peeking into the lab area to check if anyone was dead. Thankfully, no one had been killed. Toast was doing the telescope task while Sykkuno danced around him, you could hear also hear people in the very back by the scanner. Satisfied that there wasn't a murder you wandered outside down to office, only to discover a dead body by the lava pit.

"Where's the body y/u/n?" Toast immediately asked.

"It's by the lava temp thing outside office. Didn't see anyone around. But I think everyone in medbay is clear for this kill." You replied.

"Maybe. Rae came in after everyone else, she could-"

"I did not kill Tina!" Rae shouted indignantly, resulting in a chuckled from a few others.

"I did my first wires in electrical then came straight to medbay. Someone else killed her." She huffed.

A debate began among the group as to who could have killed her, you zoned out having issue trying to follow all the logic. Ultimately everyone skipped.

When the meeting was over you walked over to weapons and quietly did your task, only for Sykkuno to wander in.

"Oh! Hi y/u/n!"

"Please don't kill me Sykkuno I'm almost done with this."

"I won't, I'm not a killer anyways." He laughed.

"Mhm whatever you say." You teased a bit. You felt a bit more at ease with him, he was a quieter and very kind person. You wouldn't be offended if he did kill you.

"Maybe you're the killer." He accused playfully.

"If I were the killer you'd already be dead ya know. I'm merciless."

"Good to know. Mind if I stick with you then?" He asked.

"Not at all." You replied, a slight smile lifting the corners of your lips. Your chat was excitedly blowing up, already loving the playful dynamic.

You weren't a big streamer at all, only having just over 500 followers, after joining the game you'd gained some more, but not too many. The followers you'd had for awhile were well aware of your introvertedness, so they were delighted to see you interacting with others.

The two of you wandered to O2 to do tasks when another body was reported, there was also a second body who's location was unknown.

You and Sykkuno immediately hard cleared each other. This lead to you muting yourself and talking to your chat, rather than pay attention. You thanked a few subs and donos before hastily voting with Sykkuno at the end of the meeting. Apparently everyone was now certain Rae was a killer.

After the meeting you and Sykkuno headed back to O2, there wasn't much chatter between the two of you aside from the suggestion to check cams. While Sykkuno cycled through the cams you danced around him keeping watch. That's when Emma ran in and immediately sliced Sykkuno in half.

"Emma oh my god!" You gasped.

"You saw nothing." She said and she vanished.

"Sorry Sykkuno, no justice for you I'm afraid." You said as you reported the body, claiming you'd been on cams and hadn't realized someone had come in and sliced Sykkuno, saying they'd probably vented.

There'd been two other kills, which meant you were down to five. You, Corpse, Emma, Toast, and Lily were the last ones. Toast and Lily wanting to vote out Corpse, while Corpse and Emma were going for Toast. You were the tie breaker. You glanced at your chat, some were wanting justice for Sykkuno, others wanting you to third imposter. You grinned a bit.

"Alright I'll vote Toast." You said, locking in your vote. There was some argument until the votes showed, three on Corpse, two on Toast.

"What? I thought you voted Toast?" Emma asked as Corpse groaned out a dejected "fuck."

"I lied," you said nonchalantly, "Gotta keep you on your toes." You chuckled as you were telephoned back to office.

"So we're voting Emma then right?" Lily asked.

After a scare with the lights going out, you and Lily managed to vote out Emma after she killed Toast. The victory screen that popped up after made you laugh.

"You betrayed me." Emma joked as you were put back into the lobby.

"Justice for Sykkuno." You laughed.

A new game began, and you were crewmate again. You wandered about getting tasks done when a dono caught your eye. You hid yourself down near the snowmen by office as you responded to it.

"Do you know anyone in the lobby or are you a random guest? You must be new to the stream," you chuckled, "I'm good friends with Emma. She asked me to stand in. I don't personally know anyone else though. I've watched some of their content before." You explained.

A flurry of chat messages begged you to reveal who you'd watched.

"I'm going to get so judged for revealing this...but I've checked out most of these people a few times. I've been watching Corpse since before he blew up though."

"You have?" The deep rumble of just voice made me jump.

"Oh shit! Um. Yeah. Hi." Of course he had to show up right then.

His little character came to dance over you as the lights suddenly went out.

"Is this the part where you kill me?" You asked.

"No."

"Not after my betrayal last game?"

"Don't tempt me." He laughed.

"So you are imposter then?"

He paused for a few moments before saying, "No comment."

You snorted as the lights came back on.

"Well escort me to specimen then. If you don't kill me I'll vouch for you."

"How do I know I can trust you?" He asked, clearly amused.

"You dont!" You said cheerily as you wandered off to specimen, with him trailing behind you, snickering.

He followed you into specimen, bodyguarding as you did Simon Says.

"Alright if you kill Emma I'll help you win." You offered.

"...deal."

"Epic."

And the two of you wandered off. You wound up luring Emma up to dropship where Corpse was waiting, after slicing her in half the two of you ran off giggling into electrical.

For whatever reason, Corpse was a lot easier to joke around with. This lead to a killing spree around the map, including a double kill with Sykkuno. After a body was reported, you were once again one of the five remaining.

"It's Corpse it's Corpse I swear!" Rae shouted upon entering the meeting.

"Actually I think it's you Rae." Sykkuno said smoothly, a smile evident in his voice.

"Sykkuno is right." Corpse agreed.

Brooke sided with Rae, and the two were trying to convince you to vote with them.

"Hmmmm. I don't know..." You mused.

You grinned as you watched the timer count down, and skipped. The frustrated gasps from all parties made you grin.

"Corpse follow me to lights. Surely you won't kill me. As a punishment for siding with evil." You said sarcastically.

You heard him giggling further behind you as you wandered into lights and stood in front of the lights panel facing Corpse a few steps in front of you.

"Oh know the lights whatever will we do." You monotoned, and then you were killed. The game ended with a victory for Corpse and Sykkuno.

Laughter sounded through the lobby at your third impostering and sacrifice at the end while Emma jokingly berated you for leading her to her death.

You played a few more games with the group before everyone ended their streams. You left the vc feeling happy, though a bit tired from the socializing. You'd had a surprisingly good time meeting everyone. And after checking your channel stats you'd realized you now had almost two thousand followers. A huge jump from the five hundred before this.

You accepted the friend requests you'd received from Toast, Sykkuno, Rae, and a few others after leaving the vc. There was a slight pang of disappointment to not see Corpse's username among the list. You debated sending him a friend request yourself but the thought was too anxiety inducing. You shut everything down and went to bed in hopes for a few hours of sleep after the long day you'd had.

And sleep you did. You didn't even wake to the gentle ping of a friend request coming in just an hour after you'd gone to bed.

Chapter 3: New People are Terrifying

Summary:

You're both too scared to talk to each other so Emma yells at you

Chapter Text

You'd woken up incredibly early, something you should've been used to by now, but still felt annoyed at the fact that you were awake before the sun was.

You raised your head enough to peer at the alarm clock on the table by your bed...3:00 in the morning. With a groan you pulled yourself out from your bed, maybe you could start some work, be productive for once.

It wasn't until you'd made yourself a cup of your favorite tea and plopped yourself down on the cold floor of your apartments balcony that you pulled out your phone

You started going through your notifications. A lot of them from your Twitter and Instagram, you made a mental note to adjust those settings later so you didn't get spammed all day.

It wasn't until you'd scrolled down farther that you saw that notification you weren't expecting.

"Corpse has sent you a friend request"

Oh shit. Holy shit. He'd sent you a friend request? He'd sent it while you were asleep. You prayed he didn't think you were ignoring him.

Quickly you accepted the friend request and we're brought to the dm, you started typing a greeting before quickly erasing it. Maybe he didn't really want to talk anymore? Maybe he sent it because everyone else did? It was probably for the best that you didn't bother him. You doubted he actually wanted to talk to you.

But if he didn't want to talk or be friends why would he add you? It was all becoming a jumble of back and forth in your head so you tried to push it aside and focused on the sounds of the city beneath you.

After awhile you got up and went about getting ready for the day, though the question of whether or not to DM him still buzzing in your mind.

You were unconvinced of either option, simultaneously terrified of bothering him but also of the possibility of seeming rude. It really was difficult trying to figure out which was worse.

You spent the day mulling over the idea while going about your daily tasks. It wasn't until hat evening when you'd started up your stream to mess around on the minecraft world you had with Emma that you were able to finally be free of it.

Or so you thought.

All the new people who'd followed you the previous night were alive and thriving in your chat. And for a bit it was alright, until people started asking if you'd be playing with anyone you'd met last night.

"Uh no chat, I won't be playing with anyone from last night. This is just a solo minecraft stream unless Emma decides to jump on. Which is doubtful since I pretty sure she's busy right now."

And then people were donating asking questions. Some were fine, just things new viewers wouldn't know about you and would want to find out. Others were asking what you thought of them.

It was getting annoying pretty quick.

"If you guys aren't here to watch me, and are here for anyone else then I suggest you leave. Just me tonight. Now quit asking."

Your viewer count dropped a bit, but you could hardly feel bothered by it too much. You carried on with you stream as normal, and the rest of it went off without a hitch.

You'd gained more followers, and some subscriptions. It was exciting for you, you'd suddenly grown a lot. Though you weren't expecting the interest to last very long, it would be nice while it lasted. Plus you could use the money you earned and maybe upgrade your PC.

"Alright chat, it was wonderful listening to you all criticize my building skills but I'm gonna head off. I've got some errands to run. I'll see yall in the next one, stay fresh!"

And with a click the room was silent. It was always a little odd to suddenly switch to the obvious lack of video game noise and music, but it wasn't the worst feeling. You pulled on your shoes and went off to the grocery store.

While wandering the aisles of your local Walmart, you got a call from Emma.

"Hey Emms, what's up?"

"You both are fucking hopeless."

"I-what?" You sputtered, a nervous laugh spilling out.

"You and Corpse are both agonizing over messaging each other it's ridiculous. And before you say you haven't been, I know you have. Just because you haven't told me doesn't mean I don't know. You both want to be friends, just go say hi for fucks sake."

"But-"

"No buts, just send him a message. You need more friends aside from me anyways."

"I have friends other than you!" You grumbled.

"Oh yeah? Like Jackie? That you talk to every couple months? You need friends you talk to regularly. Besides the two of you are pretty similar so you'll get along well. Just hurry it up I'm tired of the whining." She laughed.

"Yeah yeah alright. I'll message him when I get home."

And so you did. You finished up your shopping, put away your groceries, and plopped down on your couch, the dm open. You stared at the blinking cursor for a few moments before groaning and typing out a quick message.

Hi! It was great to meet you yesterday :) How was your day?

Chapter 4: Icky

Summary:

You two finally talk. It starts off incredibly awkward, but you quickly find it easy to talk to each other.

Also as a side edit, decided to switch it to first person POV. I'll be going through the previous chapters to adjust that. Also im reformatting how the discord messages are gonna appear. Ignore that I disappeared for a hot minute. Classes are driving me insane.

Notes:

(See the end of the chapter for notes.)

Chapter Text

Hi! It was great to meet you yesterday :) How was your day?

Instead of staring at my phone screen I tossed it to the other end of the couch. Pulling my knees to my chest I waited. And waited. And waited.

And then after what seemed like forever the little ping of a discord message seemed to echo through the room. I quickly scrambled to grab the phone and opened the message.

Corpse

Hi, it was nice meeting you too.

Well...at least he responded?

God I hated doing this. The awkward first messages always physically pained me.

"Take a deep breath y/n. You can do this. At least you already know he does want to be friends." I told myself.

y/u/n

So...how ya doin?

Corpse

alright. Hru?

y/u/n

alright

Corpse

cool cool

Wow. We have great conversational skills.

I sat there for a moment before giving into the "just say fuck it" part of my brain.

y/u/n

this is awful. U up to just call? At least the awkwardness will be reduced to silences which are slightly more bearable.

Corpse

sure

Well, it can't get any worse right?

I stuck some earbuds in and pressed the call button, waiting for the familiar badoop noise of the other person joining. And not too long after, he joined.

"Howdy." I said, as brightly as my anxiety riddled voice could muster.

"Hey."

Somehow the deep rumble I'd typically found comforting now terrified me. Gotta love social anxiety right?

Notes:

It's short, I know. Wanted to get something out lol
Longer chapter will be posted soon I promise...

Chapter 5: Nerves, nerves, and more nerves.

Summary:

Managing to stumble through a conversation

Notes:

Made a quick edit to change some of the pronouns to 1st POV...whoops

Chapter Text

I was immediately frustrated with myself. I mean, I had been a fan of Corpse for god knows how long. This was the dream, to not only be able to talk to him, but to be in a position where the both of you wanted to be friends.

Yet here I was, my stomach twisting inside out because hearing his voice in a call with only me was suddenly the most terrifying thing of my life.

"So...how are you?" I asked hesitantly, my voice much quieter than it was initially.

"Alright. Um. How are you?"

"Good good."

The brief moment of silence felt like a thousand years. I silently cursed myself for thinking it couldn't possibly get any worse. I was so wrong. So so wrong. Now it was god awful uncomfortable and I was on a call with him. Why do I do these things to myself?

"What are you up to?" He finally asked.

"Trying not to lose my shit."

He snorted, "Yeah same here."

Well at least we were on the same page.

"Why did I think the awkward silences would be more bearable?"

"That's what I want to know."

"I don't make very good decisions."

"Join the club."

I smiled a bit, now feeling less intimidated by his voice. I settled back into the couch.

"Alright. We're gonna speedrun the small talk."

"What?"

"I'm gonna name a topic or question people usually ask and on the count of three we'll say our answers."

"...why not? Lets see how well this goes." He chuckled.

"Ok...favorite color. Three, two, one."

"y/f/c"

"Black."

"Black? Really? Talk about emo." I teased.

"Shut up you asked the question. Shouldn't you know that anyways?"

"What do you mean?" I asked, puzzled.

"You've been watching me for awhile right?"

"Oh...I mean yeah. That doesn't mean I've memorized every single little detail about you though."

"Fake fan."

"I-what?" I gasped aloud. He giggled a bit.

"You heard me. Fake fan. Real ones know my favorite color."

"I can't believe you. I'm telling twitter on you."

"Try it, I dare you/"

"Fine, I will." I said, quickly pulling up twitter to send out a tweet.

 @y/u/n

@Corpse_Husband called me a fake fan because I asked him his favorite color. The audacity of this man to assume everyone should just know. The fame is getting to his head y'all...

I giggled to myself as the tweet quickly gained some likes and retweets.

Then I got a twitter notification that the same man had tweeted something.

@Corpse_Husband

Imagine calling yourself a longtime Corpse Husband fan and not just knowing my favorite color is black. It is blatantly obvious

"Oh my god are you serious?"

"You started it."

I got a reply from Emma.

@emmalangevin

Replying to @y/u/n  I can't believe you two are already bickering.

"Emma is over it already." I giggled.

"Not surprised."

"Ok Mr. Know-it-all. You ask the question this time."

Chapter 6: Easy Peasy

Summary:

Gettin into the groove of talking to each other.

Chapter Text

"Alright, fine." he said.

I giggled a bit and sat, waiting for him to come up with a question.

"Favorite food?"

"Ok, on three." I was smiling to myself.

"One, two three!"

"(y/f/f)" "cinnamon raisin bread."

I paused, startled, before bursting out laughing.

"What're you laughing for huh?"

"Seriously? That's so obscure." I managed to spit out between bouts of laughter.

"Yeah as if (y/f/f) is any better."

"I'm sorry I'm sorry, its a perfectly valid answer, it's just funny."

"You're just making fun of the things I like. First I get called emo, and now my favorite food is wrong." he grumbled teasingly. I could still hear the smile in his voice.

"Hey you brought the emo thing on yourself man. Your whole brand screams edgy."

"You're so judgy."

"Hey! I never said there was anything wrong with it. I like edgy." I huffed.

He laughed in response. And so it went on like that for awhile, the two of us answering those basic questions that kept turning into teasing and harassing each other

I hadn't expected it to be this easy. Once we got into the groove it was like we'd been friends for years. After awhile I had gotten up to make dinner, keeping him on the phone. It was nice to have some company while cooking for once.

I lived a very solitary life. My apartment complex didn't allow animals, so I had no pet to keep me company. And because of the fact that I hated talking to people, my only friends were online, plus the old Mrs. Stevens two doors down.

I'd made a friend. And Emma had only barely needed to push me this time.

While I cooked, our conversation eventually moved from getting to know each other to talking about the struggles of being a faceless creator.

"I totally get that anxiety from the possibility of being recognized. Though you do have it worse, having such a unique voice."

"Yeah, its definitely made it hard to get out and do the things I need to do sometimes. Grocery shopping is a bitch."

"Ugh I don't doubt that. I started doing that grocery pick-up thing. Means I only really see one person. Makes it a little easier."

"Yeah that makes sense. But even that one person can cause a big mess."

"No kidding. I've been worried about my full name getting released because of that."

I could hear him suck in his breath at that, "I don't even want to think about that."

"Don't. It sucks."

There was a moment of silence before he asked, "Do you think you'll ever face reveal?"

"Mmm one day. I want to be able to do vlogs and stuff and go to vidcon and everything ya know? There have been a few times where I've almost done it."

"Really?" he sounded surprised.

"I know, shocking. Some days I just want to get it over with. Two or three months back someone posted a picture on twitter claiming it was my face. Just made me realized that people are looking for it now, and will eventually find it one day anyways."

"I remember that. It was pretty bad."

"Wait...you remember that?" Now it was my turn to be surprised.

"I've also been a fans of yours for quite awhile."

"...loser."

He gasped, "What?"

"Oh come on," I said, "As if you're not a degenerate like me and my fanbase."

"You've got a point." he laughed.

"I know I do. Now, the question is, will you ever do a face reveal?"

"Probably not. It might get found eventually, but frankly I'm not interested in making that sooner rather than later."

"Fair enough. It's a lot of pressure, especially on you. Deep voice man better be sexy or he's a catfish." I finished in a mocking tone.

He laughed, "It's funny because you sound exactly like them."

"Hey! I've dealt with the haters too! I know their idiocy."

"You're secretly a Corpse Husband hater."

"Oh nooooo you've discovered my secret. I can't believe this." I said sarcastically. He just laughed, which turned into me laughing.

After the fit of giggles had worn off, I looked down at my finished spaghetti. The easiest thing I had in my apartment.

"Hey man, my sketti is ready. And I don't think you want to listen to spaghetti asmr."

"No I think I'll pass on this one. It's alright, I'm supposed to be on Karl's stream soon anyways."

"Ooo exciting. Well you have fun with that. Talk tomorrow maybe?"

"Sure."

"Later emo man."

"Oh shut up." He laughed as he left the call.

As I shut off my phone I bowled up my spaghetti and plopped down on the couch to watch a movie.

I'd made a friend.

Chapter 7: Told You So

Summary:

Mining and crafting

Chapter Text

"You're welcome." Was what she said as soon as I picked up the phone.

"I-what?"

"You're. Welcome. Without me you and corpse would probably still not be talking."

I sighed, "Fair point. Thank you."

She chuckled in response.

"Sooooo you gonna be on my stream in about an hour?" I asked hopefully. Emma regularly made appearances on my stream, we typically played some Minecraft together.

"No can do, that's why I called. Something cane up."

"Oh ok, no worries then."

"You know you could ask Corpse to join you."

"He was on Karl's stream last night though, I don't know if he'd wanna be on stream two nights in a row."

"Just ask him."

"Fine fine."

We chatted a bit before eventually hanging up.

I pulled up discord and opened up my DMs with Corpse.

y/u/n

heyyy I know it's last minute but Emma canceled on me...would you be up to be on my stream in like 30? We can play something other than minecraft ofc.

I only had to wait a few minutes before getting a response

Corpse

Minecraft is cool. Fair warning I barely know how to play.

y/u/n

no worries, call u soon :)

Corpse

cool

I posted a quick tweet saying tonight's usual Minecraft stream with Emma has been changed, and I had a surprise guest coming on instead. My replies were filled with people guessing who it could possibly be, it was entertaining. And it gave me ideas of who I could ask to guest star on my stream another time.

A little while later I got my stream started up and was talking to chat while waiting for Corpse. I figured he needed some time to prepare so I had sent him a message to let me know it was ready.

"Thank you BigFluffyPanda for the bits! I absolutely love fanart, so please tag me in it if you do make some. Just no NSFW stuff please."

I glanced over at my second monitor to see that Corpse was ready.

"Get ready chat." I said as I clicked the call button.

"Hey." His voice resonated in my headset.

"Hiya. You ready to minecraft?"

"Ready as I'll ever be."

Chat was blowing up and messages were zooming by, people were delighted to hear the man on my stream. My viewer count made a sudden jump.

I loaded up minecraft and started a new world and waited for Corpse to join. When he did I was caught off guard, I'd forgotten about his....special...skin.

"You like my skin?" He asked.

"I absolutely love it. Now go start smacking a tree."

He giggled and we started gathering necessary materials, with me teaching him a bit along the way.

We wandered a bit before finding a village and promptly claiming one of the houses as our own and expanding it a bit.

"Hey y/u/n?"

"Whats up?"

"Can I put my minecraft bed next to yours?"

I burst out with giggles, making my character crouch a few times in front of his.

"I'm swooning Corpse."

"Oh is that what swooning is supposed to look like?"

"Do you not immediately do squats when you swoon?"

"You're a freak."

"Nuh uh. You're the weird one. Everyone does that. Right chat? See my chat is agreeing with me."

"If you say so." He laughed.

I took him mining and then showed him how to trap the villagers so we could keep them from getting killed and how to level them up to get the trades we want. He died a few times when night came around, but was slowly getting the hang of it.

"Corpse my chat wants to know how much I had to pay you to be on stream." I snorted.

"Y/u/n didn't have to pay me anything. I'm definitely here without payment. Totally."

"Oh my god shut up."

"What? I told them you didn't pay me. What's the issue?"

"You're a little shit." I teased.

He chuckled in response.

After two hours I decided to end stream, usually I'd go on longer but I knew Corpse wasn't a huge fan of streaming and his voice was probably tired.

"Alright chat I'm gonna call it there. Be sure to check out my YouTube channel where I'll upload a video later this week. And drop Corpse a follow on Twitter if you haven't already. You all better have, I will hunt you down if you haven't."

"Bye chat."

The chat was filled with goodnights before I ended stream, and raiding my friend Danny who was very excited to see the amount of people I brought along with me.

"Thanks for being on my stream tonight."

"Thanks for having me." He replied.

"You gonna go to bed?"

"Probably not. You know I can't sleep."

"Yeah yeah I know, one can hope."

"Hope that I'm going to bed?"

"Uh yeah, sleep is important."

He snorted, "I'm doing fine without it."

"Mhm...since you're not going to bed are you up to stay on call for a bit?"

"Sure."

"Kay give me a second."

I switched to my phone so I could lay in bed while we talked.

"Mkay. So how was your minecrafting experience?"

"It was good. I had a great teacher." I could hear the smile in his voice.

"Suck up." I snorted.

"Oh fuck off." He laughed.

"Never. I only fuck on."

"What does that even mean?"

"That I get soooo many bitches."

He burst out laughing.

"Hey! Stop laughing at me." I fake pouted.

"You're as socially anxious as me don't even try telling me you have bitches."

"Yeah I know...but we could totally get bitches."

"Most definitely."

"You have a whole fanbase of bitches."

"Fair point," He mused, "Your fans don't simp for you as much, do they?"

"No. I typically see people referring to me like I'm an older sibling or parental figure."

"I'll find you some bitches."

"You're a true friend."

"I try my best."

We talked for awhile longer, I was slowly getting sleepier and sleepier.

I woke up the next morning, still in a call with him. Thank God I'd plugged my phone in before passing out at some point.

Chapter Text

My eyes cracked open in my still dark room, I groaned and stretched out in my bed.

"You awake?"

I nearly jumped out of my skin.

"Jesus fuck Corpse." I hissed. His voice was deeper and more gravelly in the morning, scaring me half to death to hear it unexpectedly.

"Sorry." He chuckled.

"Wait...we're still on call? Did we not hang up last night?" I asked.

"Yeah, you fell asleep while we were talking. I didn't want to leave and wake you with the leaving call sound."

I smiled softly, he was so considerate.

"You weren't bored sitting there listening to me sleep?"

"No, the company was nice. Even if the company was asleep."

"Well now the company is awake. Did you get any sleep last night?"

"I little bit," He replied, "But not much. I take what I can get."

"Fair enough. So what'd you do all night then?"

"Scrolled through Twitter, messed around on my PC."

"Ooo exciting." I said sarcastically.

"Hey I'm very exciting." He said defensively.

"I didn't say otherwise."

"I can hear the grin in your voice."

"I don't know what you're referring to."

"Mhm ok. You still in bed?"

"Yeah. Beds warm."

He chuckled in response, I could hear noises of him shuffling around on his end.

"Whare you doing?"

"Cooking."

"Make some for me."

"Obviously." He chuckled.

We chatted a bit until I finally got up, making myself some food. We quietly ate together over call, occasionally making comments to each other. Overall it was a quiet morning.

"You got any plans for the day?"

"Pick up my groceries and play videogames."

"Streaming?"

"Yeah. Not sure what yet though."

"You should play a horror game."

"Mmm that'd make some good content. People get a kick outta that."

"They do. And I can watch you shit yourself."

"You live to see me suffer."

He giggled.

"I'm taking that as a yes." I said.

"That's what friends are for."

"Ah fair point."

Chapter Text

"Corpse, my friend, please. Let me live. I promise I won't breathe a word to anyone." I pleaded.

"Y/u/n...it's not worth the risk."

I shrieked and tried to run away but was quickly cut down. Now I could hear Rae cackling as a ghost.

"That was so dramatic oh my god."

"Rae that was life and death."

That only sent her into another fit of giggles.

I floated around Corpse following him as he cut down another person before a meeting was called, thankfully he was caught, being the last person seen with his victim moments before the meeting was called.

"See I could have prevented that. You should have left me alone Corpse."

"I'll keep that in mind next time."

I chuckled and floated around, following Leslie about as she went around killing more people. She was eventually voted out, giving the crew a win.

In the next game, Rae and I were imposters together.

I wandered about for a bit before stumbling across Corpse in O2.

"This is payback bucko." I hissed before slicing him in half. I could hear his ghostly giggles from the dead chat.

I finished the rest of the game with Rae, getting us a win after clutching a 1v4. We played a few more games before everyone disbanded for the night.

Not too soon after I left the voice chat, I got an incoming call from Corpse.

"Hello there my deep voiced friend."

"Y/u/n. I can't believe you killed me like that."

"Hey, you started it. I needed my revenge."

"And to think I thought that you were above that sort of thing." he said dramatically.

"Absolutely not. I'm a petty bitch." I giggled.

"I'll have to keep that in mind."

"I'm not too worried about ya Corpsie."

"Thanks."

"How ya doin? That was a long session."

"Exhausted, my voice is shot."

"So its a just sit in call for company kind of night?"

"Mhmm."

"Sounds good to me, bud."

I could hear him clicking away on his computer, meanwhile I was editing a video that I needed to post yesterday. It was quiet, peaceful. Corpse would occasionally show me some fanart of him or me, or show me a tweet he found amusing.

The time passed quickly, my clock showing 2am. My sleep addled brain had an idea.

"Hey Corpse?"

"Hm?"

"You can call me y/n."

He didn't respond, the silence quickly making me nervous.

"Uh sorry, was that like too sudden? I know-"

"No no no," he interrupted, "I was just surprised. Y/n suits you."

"Thanks. In return show me your elbow." I joked.

"What?" he burst out laughing.

"I told you my real life name. My legal name. It's only fair I get an elbow reveal."

"Of all things..."

I just laughed in response, not expecting the badoop of receiving a discord message. I opened it to see a photo of Corpse's elbow.

"Oh my god you did not."

"It's only fair." I could hear the grin in his voice.

"You have such a lovely elbow."

"Thank you, I moisturize."

That sent me into a fit of giggles, which only made him laugh too.

"Thank you for entertaining my bullshittery." I said as the giggles subsided.

"You entertain mine, so its only fair."

"Poggers."

He laughed, "Go to bed y/u/n."

"Y/n." I corrected.

"Y/n. Go to bed."

"But I'm talkin to you."

"You need to sleep."

"Five more minutes."

"Fine."

Sorry it took so long to update! Winter break was very much needed to recover from the crazy semester I had. I'll try to update more regularly. Thanks for the reads and kudos!!

Chapter 10: Video Call

Chapter Text

Months had passed since Corpse and I had first met, and we'd become extremely close. Nightly calls and daily messages had that effect.

One night while on call I finally decided to voice something I'd been thinking about for a little while.

"Hey Corpse?"

"Yeah?"

"What would you say if I asked if I could face reveal to you?"

"...What?" He sounded nervous.

"I feel comfortable with you and I'd like to if you're ok with it. I don't want you to feel like you'd have to do it too obviously. I know it's a touchier subject for you but yeah. Only if you're ok with it."

He was quiet for a few moments.

"Yeah alright."

"Really?"

"Hey its your face. You do what you want with it." He said, a smile evident in his voice.

"Oookay. Here goes."

I pulled my knees up to my chest as I clicked the video option on the discord call, the light on my webcam flickering on as my image popped up on the screen.

"Howdy!" I said as I smiled nervously.

"That is...not what I expected."

"What were you expecting?" I asked curiously

"Basically the complete opposite of what you look like."

"Are you disappointed?" I could feel myself frown a little bit.

"No no no not at all. You have a very...nice face."

I snorted, "Thanks Corpse."

"Yeah anytime. You know me. Master of compliments."

We talked for a few more hours, I left my camera on the entire time.

Eventually I went to bed, and the next day Corpse called while I was making myself some lunch.

"Hey bud, what's up?"

"I'm bored."

"Hi bored I'm y/n."

"Do not start with your dad jokes."

"You love them."

"Do I?" He asked amusedly.

"Yes you do. They're you're favorite thing ever."

"I'm not too sure about that."

"I am!" I giggled.

"What're you doin?" He asked

"Pasta babyy."

"Save some for me."

"Oh for sure."

We sat there for a little bit waiting for the water to boil.

"Hey um. If you're up for it could you turn on your camera? It'd be kinda nice to see you."

"Oh," I said in surprise, "Sure thing." I reached over to my phone and tapped on the video button and watched as my image came on the screen.

"Hiya!" I said as I waves.

"Hiya." He responded.

I was flattered and touched, especially since he felt comfortable enough to ask about it.

"It wasn't weird that I asked was it?"

"Nah dude not at all." I said and smiled reassuredly at the camera, turning my attention to my now boiling pot of water.

We talked for awhile while I made and ate my pasta, all the while my camera on.

After that I'd habitually kept my camera on while in a call with him. It felt like we were more personal and getting closer because of it.

What I wasn't expecting was a few weeks later to join on a call with him and to ask me the question he did.

"Wait, seriously?" I asked, shocked.

"I mean yeah. It'd be cool to see you in person."

My heart raced excitedly, Corpse was one of my best friends at this point and the prospect of meeting up was incredibly exciting.

"Well then who's visiting who? This is a bigger step for you so I want you to be as comfortable as possible."

"Could you come stay with me for a few days?"

"Absolutely!"

And with that we started making plans, looking at dates and plane tickets.

It was a little overwhelming, but I was delighted. And I could tell Corpse was excited too, albeit nervous.

Now I just had to wait one week before we'd see each other in person.

Chapter 11: Face to Face

Notes:

New chapter up sooner than I thought it'd be. Hope you guys enjoy!

Had to go back and adjust the date it shows for when it's posted, sorry if it sends out that extra notification :p

Chapter Text

The week passed by as slowly as it possibly could, but finally it was the day of my flight. We decided to keep our visit secret, Emma was really the only one who knew how close we were and we wanted to surprise the internet with our meet up.

I nervously boarded my plane, thankfully I'd been able to get through security quickly and only had to spend half an hour in front of the gate. I walked down the aisle to the middle of the plane and plopped down in the window seat and stashing my bag under my seat. I pulled out my phone to message Corpse.

Y/u/n

Just sat down, waiting to take off.

Corpse

You'll be here in just a few hours

Y/u/n

Are you as terrified as I am?

Corpse

The anxiety has not been great today

Y/u/n

I'm praying I can sleep on the flight so I'm not having an anxiety attack on the plane

Corpse

A nap sounds great right now

Y/u/n

Go do the sleeping, just remember to set an alarm so I'm not stranded at the airport

Corpse

Sir yes sir

Y/u/n

See you soon bud

Corpse

See you soon

I turned off my phone and sat back in my seat, the two other people in my row had already sat down and paid me no mind.

The flight attendant did their spiel and before long we were taking off. I took out my headphones and put on one of my favorite playlists and tried to fall asleep.

I did not fall asleep.

There was a crying baby sitting right behind me. Go figure. I'd been worried something like this would happen so thankfully I'd brought my laptop and watched one of the movies I'd had downloaded. And then I watched another movie.

Movies galore until finally the pilot announced we would be descending.

We all put our things away and waited. Deboarding the plane took a little longer than expected, but before I knew it I was walking out looking around for my friend.

The nerves had eaten me up the entire plane ride, so much so I was basically trembling at this point. Corpse had told me he was wearing all black, which was expected, but I couldn't see him amongst the small crowd of people waiting for their loved ones.

That's when a raised hand caught my eye. And attached to that hand was a man in a black mask, a corpse husband hoodie, dark jeans, and black converse. I snorted, he wasn't kidding about wearing all black.

I did a little wave to confirm it was him and he waved back. Delighted, I spedwalked over to him.

"Corpse?"

"Y/n."

His voice sent shivers up my spine. Somehow it was deeper and rougher in person, making it all the more entrancing.

"I'm not sure I'll ever be used to your voice dude."

He chuckled at that, "Its alright, I'm not sure I'll ever be used to your face?"

I looked at him, puzzled.

"It's just different, in a good way of course. But everytime I see it, it's like it's the first time. It's nice to look at. You have a comforting presence."

I grinned, "Such high praise. Thank you Corpse. Now what do you say we grab my suitcase from baggage claim and get the hell out of here? I'm sure this isn't your favorite place."

"Sounds like a plan."

"Awesome."

And so we walked over to baggage claim, when we got there he wanted to stand a ways back but I dragged him up closer, otherwise I wouldn't be able to see the bag and I didn't want to be by myself. Eventually, my bag came along and I grabbed it.

As we walked out of the airport I looped my arm through his, linking us together.

"Let's get home bud." I grinned.

I saw his eyes soften and crinkle a bit, he was smiling back at me.

"Let's get home."

Chapter 12: Just a Little Bit Akward

Notes:

f/g is favorite genre
f/s is favorite show

Chapter Text

The car ride go his house was silent aside from the music playing from the speakers. Corpse had put on our blend on spotify so it was an odd mix of hard rap and f/g. It was a little uncomfortable, but expected, the both of us were anxious and awkward.

We finally pulled up to his apartment building. I got out of the car and went to the trunk to retrieve my suitcase, but Corpse had beaten me to it.

"I can carry my suitcase."

"It's fine, I got it." He replied

"Such a gentleman." I teased

"If I had a fedora I'd tip it." He chuckled

"Ew nevermind now it's cringe."

"Nice guys always finish last."

"Stooooppp, please. I beg." I groaned

He laughed in response, leading me to the elevator in the lobby. No one else was around.

When I walked into his apartment I was not surprised. It was well decorated, sleek and elegant.

"Wooww nice place."

"Thanks. This way, you get to crash in the YouTube room."

"The secret room?" I gasped

"The very one. Its the only spare room, and I trust you so it's not a big deal."

"Aww Corpse. I'm honored."

"Mhmm."

He led me into the room, there was a desk with a PC setup and a pullout couch, which had already been pulled out and sheets had been put on.

"I'm supposed to stream tonight, you want to surprise the internet with you being here then?" He asked

"Yeah yeah. Post a thing on Twitter about how you have a surprise or something, get em all ramped up."

"They're all gonna think I'm face revealing."

"My favorite thing is to disappoint people, it's what I excel at." I joked.

He chuckled in response.

After I'd hung up my shirts in the closet so they weren't too wrinkly we went into the kitchen to make some food and kill some time before the stream.

"Alright boss man whats the plan?" I asked

"I don't know"

"Awesome," I said, "Let's just see what you've got on hand and go from there."

I rummaged through his fridge and pantry and found the means to make chicken and rice.

"Chicken and rice it is. Can you set some water to boil?"

"Yeah."

As we cooked we slowly started to loosen up a bit, finally able to joke around a bit.

"How have you survived this long not knowing how to make chicken? Just simple chicken?"

"I don't appreciate the judgement." He grumbled, trying to hide a smile.

"You're so lucky I'm here."

"Yeaaah totally."

"Don't be a brat." I laughed

When the food was ready we went and sat down in the living room, I insisted we watch f/s and Corpse obliged.

He was hooked after the first episode, which brought me great joy.

"OK but that makes no sense."

"I never claimed it was a good show." I grinned

"How do can I love and hate something so much?"

"Welcome to the world of f/s. We're all suffering."

"Clearly."

We watched TV for a bit longer before it was finally time to stream. The moment we'd both nervously been waiting for.

Chapter 13: Streaming

Chapter Text

"Hi chat. How everyone doing?"

Corpse was setting up his stream to play among us with the gang while I was perched in an extra chair beside him, waiting to announce my presence.

"Whats the surprise? Should I reveal it yet? Hmmm...what do you think?" He turned to me, a small smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.

"Hmmm I dunno corpse, should we tell them that I, y/u/n, is here with you? That we're doing a meet up?"

"I'm just not sure they're ready yet."

The chat was whizzing by, people were losing their minds.

"Surprise chat! Me and corpse are actually best buds, and I'm visiting for the next couple of days."

"We're killing together instead of each other." He said.

After talking to chat for a few more minutes we joined the voice call to greet our friends, who'd already been given a heads up on the situation.

We all said hello and started the game, we were cremated.

"Thank God. I hate getting imposter the first game." I groaned in relief. Corpse chuckled.

We wandered around doing our tasks, but was killed off first by Tina.

The next game we got imposter, but it only resulted in bickering.

"No go the other way. Left y/u/n, left."

"No, we go this way, I saw Rae go over here alone, we should kill her."

"No one has seen us this round we don't have an alibi."

"Murder."

"I want to kill people too but we have to do it properly."

Jack passed by us at that moment and Corpse immediately clicked the kill button.

"Self report it!"

"No run away."

"Fucker."

"Drama queen."

I stuck my tongue out at him and I made our character walk away, we eventually found sykkuno and stayed with him for the rest of the round.

As the game went on somehow we weren't sussed, and our imposter partner didn't either. So when the final round came where we only needed to kill one person to win, I turned to corpse.

"Kill sykkuno."

"No."

"Please it'd be so funny."

"I'm not kill sykkuno."

"Pleeeeeaaaaassse." I begged

"No way."

I scowled.

"Chat this man is a simp."

He chuckled at that one

Meanwhile I was making our character follow sykkuno, when our kill cooldown was up I lunged over and clicked the kill button.

"Hey! What the hell?!"

"HAH! Murder!"

Corpse pretended to be huffy with me as we entered the lobby to start the next game, I just kept giggling. The others found it hilarious.

We played a few more games before finally calling it a night. As we bid our chat Goodnight corpse gently took my hand.

"Thanks for coming and playing with me." He said softly.

I squeezed his hand, "Thanks for inviting me out bud. You ready for bed?"

"I guess so."

"We can stay up and watch movies for a bit if you'd prefer."

"Well you need to sleep."

"Sleep is for the weak. I'd rather spend time with you."

He smiled softly, "Alright."

"Let's go boss man." I said, pulling him up from his chair.
