Work Text:
The first time it had been a subtle thing. You didn't think Wukong even took notice of it, but it certainly wasn't the first time he wanted to address you by that.
"Hey, Peaches, I'm ordering some noodles, want some?"
The way he said it was so absent minded that you thought at first that it was a trick from your brain.
"What?" You blurted out unintelligently.
"I asked if you wanted so-"
"No, no, what did you call me?"
"Oh, Peaches? Wh- oh," His face lighted up mischievously and he grinned, amused, "do you like that? Who would know…"
As he grew near you, you felt regret by showing how much his words affected you. He let out a chuckle and bopped your flushing nose, before turning around and going back to see his phone.
"That's good to know. I'll be ordering one for you too just in case. Good thing I know your favourites."
'That menace…' Your mind worked and worked, without letting your body react. Surely a couple of words couldn't affect you, could they?
Well, either way, it passed a couple of weeks before the second time happened.
Wukong was on his knees before your figure and you had your arms crossed. "Come on!" He dragged the last word while you rolled your eyes, annoyed, "please, Peaches, just let me play a little more!"
You looked at him and he took notice of your flushing face. Truly, if he wanted, he could rip away from you the phone you took away from him. But he respected you and he knew it was for his own good. He had business to tend to, if he kept on his phone he would fail it.
"Peaches…" so he took advantage and whined his heart out calling you that damned pet name.
"Absolutely not. Do your stuff first, then you'll play."
It was just like disciplining a big child, except it was a grown up, and you were dating this dumbass grown up.
It was your dumbass anyways.
He gave up, fake sniffing and turning around. "Fine…", he agreed 'sadly'.
"You are such a drama king…" you faked disappointment, but shook your head smiling.
You thought of it endearing. Well, you knew the consequences of befriending Wukong and then you learned the consequences of dating him. And you accepted it because this lovable dumbass was just that. One lovable dumbass.
The third time it happened was after a hang out with your friends. You went home to find Wukong sprayed on your sofa watching his tail flinch from one side to the other. You had never seen him this bored, to be honest.
"Wukong? What are you doing here?" You were curious, not judging. Wukong had the keys and the permission to enter your house anytime, it was just unexpected that he was actually in your house that late at night.
He looked at you, genuinely seeming upset. "Peaches…" he whined, "I missed you…" he opened his arms.
He was expecting a hug. And your flushing dumbass went over and gave him the hug he asked for.
"Peaches, where were you?"
Did he forget? He seemed actually curious.
"I told you I was hanging out with friends."
"Ohh…" it went quiet for a bit, before he broke it again, "did you have fun?"
"Hmmhm."
"Nice. Tell me about all of it tomorrow."
"Okay," you chuckled.
Then, you both cuddled silently on that sofa until you fell asleep. You woke up the next day tucked in your bed.
The fourth time was at work. You worked as a cafeteria waitress. You were surprised by Wukong, Mk and Mei walking in. The latter two waved at you excitedly and sat down on a table. Wukong went to you.
You grinned. "What are you doing here?" You prepared an order and gave it to its client.
"I wanted to visit you, Peaches. Is that so much of a crime?" He teased.
You only blushed at the pet name.
"You really oughta stop calling me that." You murmured shyly.
"Why? I think you look very pretty with your face red like that."
"Wukong!"
It was a disaster. You spent a whole twenty minutes embarrassed. It was the time Wukong and the others stayed inside the cafeteria. At least it didn't affect your work performance. Not much at least.
The fifth time was during an attack on the city. Mk was fighting the bad guys and all that, you know, the usual. One the attacks went for a building above you. And you could do many self defence things, but you couldn't do miracles. So, even if you were running for your life, taking as many people with you as you could, after all, you couldn't let anyone else die, you were bound to lose a limb or two. It was faster than you.
However, a flash of light pushed you out of harm's way.
"Peaches!" He called, "Peaches, are you okay?!"
You only groaned as you back took the hit to the floor, but besides that, you were pretty good.
"Hmm, yeah, but my back is screaming right now. Ow… is everyone alright..?
"They are, they are…"
The monkey hugged you, something between gently and tightly. He was scared of hurting you, but he was also scared of losing you.
"Peaches…"
You patted his head.
"Hey, Wukong, we still need to evacuate these people."
And so you guys went. You were more careful and he was ten times more vigilant. He was retired for sure, but he did about almost anything you asked so… he was now stuck evacuating these people just until MK took care of the issue.
He didn't mind as long as he kept an eye on you.
You were quite annoyed because you weren't a damsel in distress, but you let it. He had enough scares for one day. You could talk to him about it later on.
The sixth time you wanted to call him something special. Something that would get him flustered.
You spent quite an embarrassing time thinking about it. Had Wukong passed through this too?
"Hey, Y/N I was wondering if you'd want to go somewhere later." He peeked his head from the door, looking at you in your bedroom.
He decided to pass the day in your house today, just chilling. It was nice, days like this. The both of you mostly just passed them doing your own things, but you were in the same space. If one needed the other, they knew they were there. It was lovable.
"Sure, my king," you replied, concentrating on the book you were reading.
He looked at you, dumbfounded. "What?"
You looked up at him, "I'll go with you."
"No, it's not that," his face flushed, "you- forget it."
He got out embarrassed and you grinned. It worked. This was going to get real good real soon.
