Work Text:
Every once in a while, the hospital organizes an event for the patients to enjoy themselves. This time, it was decided to do a karaoke night to let the patients sing and forget their worries for a night. As Claire's secretary, I helped planning and decorating, while Claire was skeptical of the whole concept. However, I was able to persuade her to come.
I'm talking to her as Jim, a friend of mine, pulls me towards the small stage. He pulls a theme for me out of a box (I regret coming up with that now), smirking as he talks into the microphone. "Everyone's favorite secretary, y/n, will now sing a song about.." He looks down at the piece of paper again and smirks. "Sex."
Who put that in there?
"Good luck," he whispers into my ear. I hesitate, before telling the person responsible for the music, which song I choose. I look into the audience of patients, doctors, and nurses. My eyes finally land on Claire as I start to sing.
"If I tell you all my secrets
Would you love me? Oh
If I showed you all the darkness
Would you stay or leave? Oh
I'm so drunk in my mind.
Could you chill for the night
And hold me?
Just hold me."
Claire looks at me as carry on.
"I don't need you to be romantic,
Take off your clothes, we're dirty dancing.
You better not take this for granted
'Cause I don't usually do
What I'm about to do."
I close my eyes as I sing the chorus.
"I'll let you go where it's not safe,
I'll let you go.
I wanna do what I can't say,
I wanna do.
You see it on my face,
Something I can't explain.
I'll let you go where it's not safe,
I'll let you go
In my Private Thoughts,
In my Private Thoughts."
I open my eyes again, getting lost in Claire's eyes.
"Hold me closely, never lonely
When I'm next to you
'Cause ain't nobody touch my body
Like the way that you do, oh
I open up, I let you in
Let's get lost, let's get lost
Buried all my innocence
Let's get lost..."
As I finish singing, the audience claps, and I blush a little, making my way back to Claire. "I didn't know that you sing," Claire tells me. "Usually, I only sing at home," I reply, blushing harder.
We laugh and drink the rest of the night. I've never seen her so relaxed. Around 11 pm, we decide to call it a night, and I walk to the office to get my things before heading home. I walk by the staff toilette as I hear someone throwing up in there. Opening the door, I see Claire, who's bending over the toilette. Immediately, I go to her, holding her hair up and rubbing her back softly.
Once she's done, I help her up, making sure she's okay. I insist on walking her home, and the minute we make it to her apartment, she runs into the bathroom, emptying her stomach again. I soothe her through it. Then, I lead her to the couch, cover her body with a blanket, and go to the kitchen to make her some tea. Once the tea is ready, I pour it into a cup and give it to her. "Thank you, y/n. You really didn't have to do that," Claire says. "I care about you, Claire, so of course I'm helping you." I smile. We end up cuddling on the couch and watching some TV.
After we watched TV for a bit, I ask Claire if I could help her with anything else, but she shakes her head. "Thank you for your help, y/n."
"Anytime." I smile at her and leave.
The next morning
I'm sitting in my office as usual when Claire enters with Trevor, who calls himself Cupid. I'm not going to lie, I might be a little bit jealous of him, because he seems to spend a lot of time with Claire lately. However, if he makes Claire happy, I'm happy, even if it's not me. I've had a crush on Claire since I first started to work for her, but I never made a move, because I don't think Claire's into women and also because I wanted to keep my job and not make things awkward.
"Are you feeling better today?" I ask Claire. "Yes, I am. And thank you again for yesterday, y/n," she tells me. I smile and then look to Trevor, who has some kind of glint in his eyes. Lowering my eyes again, I get back to work. About thirty minutes later, Trevor exits Claire's office and walks towards me. "I'd go look after Claire if I were you," he says and leaves. I jump up from my chair and rush into her office.
What did he do?
I open the door and see Claire in her bra, a soaked shirt in her hand. "I-I'm s-sorry, I-I should have knocked, but Trevor told me to check on you," I stutter, looking at the floor. "Oh.. y/n" she says shocked. "Of course he did." She probably rolls her eyes, while saying this.
"Everything's fine, y/n, he just spilled his coffee all over my shirt."
"Why would he do that?" I say annoyed.
Claire chuckles softly. "I don't know."
"Do you have a spare shirt?" I ask, still looking at the floor. "I don't, but I guess, I'll -"
"I can give you mine. Wait a minute." I go and get the spare shirt that I always have with me. I re-enter her office and hold the shirt towards her. "Oh, y/n, you didn't have to do that... Thank you."
"You can look now," she laughs slightly. I look up and see her in my shirt, which is too big for her. I chuckle and Claire raises her eyebrow. "You look good in my clothes." I grin.
A few hours later, I'm packing my stuff, ready to go, as Claire walks towards me. "You wanna walk me home? I can give you your shirt back once we're there." I nod and we exit the office, walking through the streets. Suddenly, a boy runs past us and bumps into Claire, she falls and lets out a quiet whine. I help her stand up immediately and ask if she's alright. The blonde nods but as we start to walk again, she whines and hobbles a little. I wrap my arm around her waist as she holds on to my shoulders. Somehow, we make it to her apartment, and she sits down on the couch.
She takes off her shoe and winces as she discovers a bruised ankle underneath her sock. I ask if she has ice somewhere, and once she tells me where to go, I go and get it. Placing it gently on her ankle, I sit down next to her. I ask Claire if she wants a painkiller because I can see that she's in pain. She nods, and I search my bag for one, giving it to her. After handing her a glass of water, she swallows the pill.
We start to talk, and Claire offers me a drink, which I accept happily. About three glasses of wine in, I feel slightly tipsy, leaning my head against Claire's shoulder. "I think we should go to bed," she slurs.
"I should go home."
"No, y/n, you're drunk. Come on, we'll go to my room." I help her up, and we manage to make it to her room, lying down on the bed and letting sleep consume us.
Sometime later, I wake up, my face buried in her thick blond hair and my arm wrapped around her waist.
This feels so natural.
I nuzzle her neck and feel her stir. I freeze, hoping she wouldn't wake up, but then the groans softly and pulls me closer, kissing my cheek softly. I blush, praying that this moment will last forever.
