Chapter 1: How did Monsters Evolve?
Chapter Text
So, how did the monsters evolve? Why? wELLLLLL…
The world is dangerous. The world is more dangerous in certain places, in my AU. I don’t know how to describe this one. Basically, the animals were slightly bigger, the diseases are even worse, basically everything is in hard mode. But only in certain places. So, in those hard-mode places, instead of humans, monsters came to be.
They developed certain defenses and attacks. This part of my AU isn’t really thought-out, I just went to myself, “hey, you know what would be really freakin’ awesome?” and came up with that.
Chapter 2: It’s Magic!
Notes:
btw forgot tov mention:
none of these really make sense, i just have half-baked thoughts and crammed them into my AU.
and now i wanna share them because why not.
Chapter Text
How does magic work? So, basically, in my AU, shooting stars fall a lot. Like, every other night. They always disintegrate before they hit someone and kill them. About 50% of those stars are actually clusters of magic. When those magic-clusters fall and disintegrate, those microscopic magic-particles scatter around. Monsters, being created out of it, can harness those magic-particles and hence:
M A G I C.
Btw, Magic is even an element!
Chapter 3: What Happens When Monsters of Different Species Have A Child?
Chapter Text
How do mixed-species children work? Do they look like (A) one parent, or (B) a mixture of both? Answer: B.
For example: a fish monster and a reptile monster. (guess who i’m talking about?) If they decide to have a child, the child would probably be something like this:
Most likely, they would be a sea monster. Think of the Loch Ness Monster. The gender at birth also depends on the gender of the parents. If it’s two males, the child is male. Two females, the child is female. Two nonbinary monsters, the child is nonbinary (and yes there are nonbinary people at birth when it comes to monsters).
…Okay, chances are, all of this is obvious, but I’m trying to write a fictional biology book here.
(Fun fact, I actually made a ship child of Undyne and Alphys. Her name is Nessie. She has dull aquamarine scales, and will pick a fight with literally any bully.)
Chapter 4: What Happens When A Monster And A Human Have A Child?
Notes:
this is where i become a school textbook
Chapter Text
Monsters and Humans. There are tons of human-monster hybrids, known as Chimeras. (Known Chimeras: Undyne [last name unknown], Alphys [last name unknown], Bob “Temmie” Shalz) How do they work?
Occasionally, the Chimera is just a human or a monster, but there are 2 common outcomes.
———
1: The child is a magicless monster
These children aren’t made of magic, like most monsters. Instead, they’re made of typical human stuff: flesh, blood, organs, etc. They don’t have magic. Very rarely, they might be able to do a small spell, but it’s usually just weak healing. These monsters are also known to be very resourceful.
Known Magicless Monsters: Ex-Dr. Alphys [last name unknown], Kurjo “Nicecream Guy” Dans
———
2: The child is a mage
These children are human, but with magic. There are mages that have no monster blood, but they’re not as common. Mages cannot perform complicated magic, such as space-time. (Very few monsters can do that. Known Space-Time Bending Monsters: Sans Font, Papyrus Font, W̴̼͇̩̌̽Ḏ̷̦̄̏͝ͅ.̵̧̼̩̅ ̴̼̹̎̓̅G̸̥̯̀͑̌a̵̞̲̋s̸͖̈́t̸̡̞̪̑̅ĕ̵̦̳̥̂r̵̢̘̬͂͗͑ ̴̞̇̿͜F̸͇̹̚ǫ̴͚̞̔̓͒n̸̙͗́t̸̘̅̊.) These children were often hunted, especially during time periods such as the Salem Witch Trials, before most humans and monsters icould be properly introduced to each other. Mages are famous for never telling a single lie, and they often have an unsettling knack for knowing when someone is lying.
Known Mages: Amanda Criks, William Criks (See: The Human-Monster War, by Sofie Criks)
Chapter 5: Lifespans
Chapter Text
Monsters age a bit slower than humans, but only by 3 months. Monsters also live a lot longer, the average lifespan being 200-900 years. The oldest monster in the world is Geneva Stip, a 1,002 year old Froggit. (See: Monstrous World Records, by Alfred Boshums.)
Chapter 6: Skeletons
Chapter Text
Skeletons are one of the rarer— and more curious— monster species. They can only be born in special circumstances, and are immune to extreme temperatures.
Skeletons can be created when a corpse decomposes just enough, so that only the skeleton remains. If a magic-cluster happens to touch the corpse, the earth around the skeleton will form an egg-like shape, to protect the body as it develops. Once the skeleton is fully formed, the earthy shield will fall apart, and the skeleton is born. They grow just like any human or monster.
Common Skeleton Magic:
-Bones
-Strange Animal Skulls, often called ‘Gaster Blasters’ (See: W̷̞̎̊.̸̙̥̚D̶̊͜.̵̟̒͠ ̶̧̅G̷͉̈́ã̷̳̰̄s̸̮̗͊̃ṭ̵͖̽e̸̺̒͋r̴̡͗͘)
-Time-Space Manipulation
-Teleportation
-Portals
-Color Magic (often Blue, Orange, Green)
Most skeleton monsters are not anatomically accurate. Skeletons are never bothered with extreme temperatures, and will not even notice. However, their HP will react to the temperature, decreasing if it’s too cold or hot. They cannot feel light touch very well. Skeletons have the ability to take themselves apart, and switch around bones as they please. Their skull must be attached to the skeleton, though, or else they will quickly dust.
Skeleton monster bones are usually very malleable, allowing them to make facial expressions. Some skeletons can show emotion more easily, even looking a bit cartoonish. They often have no eyelights. Other skeletons have a more difficult time portraying their emotions, using their eyelights instead, changing the color and shape.
If a skeleton breaks a bone, they feel quite a bit more pain than others do.
Chapter 7: Monster Culture: Stripes
Chapter by - Scrap - Paper - (multivers4l_m0r0n)
Chapter Text
Most monster children just look like small adults, hence the striped shirts and jumpers. The more stripes a child has, the older they are. Some human villages also use this rule. The day a monster turns 18, they are traditionally given a sweater with their favorite color on it.
Chapter 8: Monster Culture: Mythology
Chapter by - Scrap - Paper - (multivers4l_m0r0n)
Chapter Text
In monster myths, there is a god named Asgore. A lot of royal monsters have this name, for example, King Asgore Dreamurr. Asgore is known as the God of the Earth.
According to the legend, he was created out of star dust and magic particles, and shaped the Earth. He created 24 Stars, glowing spirits of light, and scattered them around the sky to provide Earth with Imagination, Hope, and Love.
He created monsters, modeling them after himself, while the Stars created humans. However, they got rather excited and imaginative, quickly creating animals, and they sent them down to Earth.
Asgore soon found out, and got very angry. He cursed the animals to be mute, unable to communicate beyond meaningless noises, and only follow their instincts instead of their logic and feelings.
At first, Asgore and the Stars interacted with their creations regularly, making sure all was well. However, humans and monsters soon discovered how valuable the flesh of Stars were. Star flesh could heal anyone, and if someone were to eat it, they would gain the power to fly up to the heavens and become a Star themself. So the humans and monsters began to hunt the Stars, killing 12.
The remaining spirits became frightened, and created infinite lifeless decoys, in an attempt to protect themselves. It worked, and so the sky was now filled with millions upon millions of tiny, glowing lights.
The Stars, not being as successful at magic as Asgore, accidentally created Evils such as Greed, Lust, and Shamelessness. The Evils escaped the Stars’ vain attempts to capture them, and began to bite the humans and monsters, tainting them. The humans and monsters hid underwater, and the Evils tried to bite them, but were killed when they touched the water.
(a lot of thing is inspired by greek myths, also i may or may not add more)
Chapter 9: Curses
Chapter by - Scrap - Paper - (multivers4l_m0r0n)
Chapter Text
When a monster or a mage has very intense emotions, they are able to cast curses upon whoever they want. However, these curses are not usually very strong, nor do they last forever. Curses are best defined as purposefully induced sickness. (Currently, the world’s longest curse is a case of Frozen Flare-up, which lasted 45 years.)
Common curses and their symptoms:
-Frozen Flare-up: Cold feeling, magic flaring up at random moments and malfunctioning, stiff movement, difficulty with motor skills.
Average length: 10 minutes to 5 weeks
-Waterstone: Feeling of pain when touching water, difficulty with motor skills, weaker magic, duller colors, difficulty with depth perception.
Average length: 5 minutes to 2 days
-RREMS (short for Randomized REM Sleep): Falling into a deep sleep randomly for a few minutes at a time, feeling dazed, difficulty concentrating
Average length: 5 minutes to 2 hours
Humans are not usually affected by curses, although it depends on the type of curse. (Ex: A human cannot be cursed with Waterstone, but can be cursed with RREMS.)
