Work Text:
Hyeongjun doesn't know what happened or what he did to have things go this way. He has just come home from a lecture, feeling drained from all energy and needing a five minute rest on the comfy couch before eating something and working on his assignments, and the last thing he expected was to have Jooyeon, his friend and roommate, run to him and sit down on his lap.
"Uh," Hyeongjun trails off, trying to move his legs but being unable to. Jooyeon is not heavy but Hyeongjun is just too weak, naturally skinny to the point of having people joke on days when the wind is too hard that he might be blown away.
"Welcome back," Jooyeon exclaims with his characteristic heart-shaped, gummy smile on his lips. "How was the lecture today?"
"Boring," Hyeongjun replies, watching with his confused eyes as Jooyeon circles an arm around his neck. "Got some stuff to hand-in next week so I need to get to work asap."
"Bleh," Jooyeon makes a face and adjusts his position on Hyeongjun's lap, legs coming up to rest on the empty seat to his left. "I can help you with it, I'm a Music Education major for a reason! We are seeing alternative learning methods this month," Jooyeon puffs his chest out and hits it lightly with his right fist, the other arm still around Hyeongjun.
"Jooyeonie, you know I'm majoring in Computer Science, right?" Hyeongjun asks just to make sure. They've known each other for quite some time and Jooyeon always means well but that'd not be the first time he forgets essential information.
"Yeah? And I'm majoring in Music Education," he says, emphasizing the word with hand gestures as well. "It means I'm supposed to be good at teaching."
The argument is absurd and makes absolutely no sense. Hyeongjun breaks into laughter and Jooyeon pouts, retrieving his arm and crossing them in front of his chest.
"Can you get off me?" Hyeongjun says, pushing him away. "You're kinda heavy and my legs are like sticks, they're gonna snap in half soon."
Jooyeon doesn't look offended and just slides to the side, right where his feet were before.
"Sorry," he says and chuckles, he looks embarrassed and Hyeongjun hopes he is because his legs are tingling now due to all the unusual weight on them. "Did you just call me fat?"
"No, it was fine at first but staying in that position for so long made it feel like you weigh more than you actually do," Hyeongjun explains, flustered that Jooyeon questioned him about his choice of words.
"It's been like, not even five minutes," Jooyeon teases and Hyeongjun clears his throat, about to say something but he forgets it right away when Jooyeon leans his head on his shoulder. "I mean it when I say I can try to help. You know I'm always on the computer anyway, maybe I have some knowledge you're not aware of."
Frozen in place and taken aback by the weird way his heart is beating at how close they are right now, Hyeongjun glances down at Jooyeon and sees that he's playing with his fingers.
"I guess I'll take up your word then," Hyeongjun says, pushing the awkwardness away and Jooyeon lifts his head, turning to smile at him. Cute. "How good are you with Analysis of Algorithms and Data Structures?"
Jooyeon's smile turns into a forced one and his eyes shake. Hyeongjun holds back laughter.
"I can keep you company so you don't get too bored?" Jooyeon offers.
Hyeongjun considers and shrugs, giving him a small smile.
"Fair enough," he says and Jooyeon jumps to his feet and runs to their room, booting both of their computers up and twirling around in his chair. Hyeongjun chuckles, shaking his head in amusement at how carefree - and childish - he looks. "I'm going to play Minecraft instead of Valorant so I can just pause and help you if needed."
"Alright," Hyeongjun nods once and sits down as well. He opens his email and reads over the assignment once more before starting.
In the end, Jooyeon doesn't help him with the assignment itself - not a surprise, even Hyeongjun is struggling with the subject - but Hyeongjun appreciates the comforting and supportive presence by his side. Jooyeon brings him water, coffee and snacks more than twice and chats with him when it gets too boring and he starts yawning.
He tries not to get too used to it since Jooyeon has classes at times and their schedules clash often but his friend offers to keep him company again next time and Hyeongjun can't help but smile at him and nod.
"You're the best," Hyeongjun manages to say and Jooyeon grins, throwing himself at him for a hug.
Hyeongjun ignores once again the way his heart pace goes just a little bit faster and hugs him back.
