even without words (i know)

Summary:

kai couldn’t believe it, the moment yeonjun asked him out. he hadn’t even realised that yeonjun thought of him that way. but yeonjun was there to reassure him that yes, he liked kai and he wanted to go out with him. kai was beyond happy.

the only problem is that no one had taught kai how to be in a relationship. and he definitely doesn’t want to mess this one up. he wants everything to be perfect. (unfortunately, nothing is.)

or: kai and yeonjun learn to love, even without words.

Notes:

it's here!! i played it safe this fic fest and chose a prompt i knew i could write something short and sweet for, and i've always wanted to write more for yeonkai, so here i am! i am so soft for shy lil kai who just wanna hold his boyf's hand and kiss him and honestly i felt him and projected onto him as i was writing, so i hope he's relatable!

thank you for giving this a chance and please enjoy! ^_^

Work Text:

when yeonjun asked kai out, he was honestly surprised. he'd gotten to know him through the university's dance club, and he'd developed an inevitable crush that he thought would never lead to anything. he thought there was no way his amazingly cool hyung would ever return his feelings. yet he did.

he remembers the way yeonjun had asked to talk to him in private, and the way that yeonjun nervously chewed his lip before he even said anything.

"i really like you, kai-ah." yeonjun blurted, his cheeks dusted pink unlike ever before. "would you like to go out with me?"

“wha-” kai stuttered. “h-hyung…”

“it’s okay if not! i just… wanted you to know.” yeonjun looked down, smiling sadly.

“wait! i…” kai blushed as yeonjun looked up with hopeful eyes. “i never said no…”

kai fell in love all over again when yeonjun beamed at him, almost as bright as the sun.

at first, he didn’t believe yeonjun. he even had to double-check with him; yes, he had gotten the right person. kai had thought he was just a younger brother figure to yeonjun, not someone he actually liked and had feelings for. it turned out that no, that wasn’t the case, and kai clearly didn’t know how yeonjun really felt.

“since when?” kai had asked, still processing it as yeonjun walked him home.

“probably ever since we stayed up until late to practise, whether it was before a big performance or not. i’d always stay back, expecting to be alone, because i was used to that. but you…” yeonjun smiled. “you stayed. even when you were tired, you stuck with me, making sure i was okay. those memories in the practice room… they’re special to me. and when i saw you shine brilliantly on that stage, my breath was taken away.”

kai didn’t know what to say to that. when yeonjun had told him, “you shone the brightest”, that day, he was honoured beyond words. to receive such praise from the top dancer was more than kai could have ever imagined, especially when there were so many other amazing dancers around him. yet, yeonjun had chosen him . he didn’t stop to think about the implication—that yeonjun sat through every performance after his, and couldn’t forget his, mind reeling and heart captivated.

“how about you?” yeonjun asked back.

kai didn’t know how to answer him. he didn’t want to creep him out and say, “you caught my eye since the day i met you and saw you dance.” there were also far too many moments, in kai’s opinion. “ever since you bought me a drink when i was struggling with the moves and stayed behind to teach me for hours.” “since that time i saw you with your friends at lunch and i’d never fallen so hard for someone’s laugh and smile.”

he settled for one vivid image in his memory.

“ever since you taught us how to dance to ‘sherlock’, because you were taking requests, and so many people wanted to learn it properly.” kai smiled.

“that was…” yeonjun blushed madly. “that was the first choreography i taught everyone, back in the third week.”

“it was.” kai giggled.

he remembered that day so well. the way that yeonjun carried himself with such passion and confidence, and how he was already like a leader to them. firm, but compassionate, and who knew how to make everyone feel comfortable and have fun.

it started out as a small crush at first, but as soon as he was spending time alone with yeonjun, it only grew bigger and bigger, until it almost hurt to be around yeonjun. sometimes, kai had felt like his feelings would burst, unable to contain them any longer. they squeezed his heart with painful longing as he told himself it would never happen. nothing would come out of it, and hope was useless.

and now, he doesn’t have to worry about that. he’s officially been yeonjun’s boyfriend for 3 weeks. it did happen, and his heart feels much lighter than before. instead, he gets to worry about everything else that people don’t tell you comes with a relationship. or at least, kai was never told. nobody told kai about how absolutely terrifying it was, to be someone’s partner and to be responsible for upholding the relationship. there are so many worries and insecurities that, 3 weeks in, kai feels like he might suffocate from them all.

don’t get him wrong, he loves yeonjun and he loves the time they spend together. they have dance club three times a week, eat lunch together when they can, have had two dates so far, and hang out with their friends every weekend. they see each other a lot . just last week, yeonjun had asked him if he wanted to hang out at his place after practice. see, the thing is, he’d been to yeonjun’s place before. but never alone. it felt like a new step in their relationship, even if all they did was eat takeout and watch a movie. (yeonjun even offered to let him stay over, since it was late, but kai knew his conscience and his heart wouldn’t be able to take it.)

at this point, he’s sure that yeonjun loves him, and that he loves yeonjun. sometimes he still wonders how he’d gotten so lucky to have yeonjun for himself. no one else has that privilege, and kai easily forgets that. no one else can look at yeonjun’s smile and think, ‘that’s my boyfriend’, or hold his hand and think, ‘he loves me’.

luckily, he’s gotten over his period of doubting whether yeonjun really likes him or not. the problem at the moment is that this is his first relationship. it certainly doesn’t help that yeonjun has probably dated at least once before and that kai is far too prone to doubts and insecurities. what if he’s doing everything all wrong? when are you supposed to kiss? when are you supposed to go further in the relationship? what if yeonjun realises kai is inexperienced and decides he wants a more mature relationship? what if yeonjun regrets asking kai out?

even getting used to holding hands took a week for kai. don’t get him wrong, he’s wanted to hold yeonjun’s hand since forever. it’s just that he never had the courage to make the first move, always missing his opportunity after mulling over it for so long. he’d even wondered, in that first week, how long it should be before a couple holds hands. to kai, whose love language is physical touch, he would have loved to hold hands as soon as possible, but he wasn’t sure whether yeonjun would want that or not.

he’d even researched it all, wondering how the first month of a relationship should go, but it was all too confusing. too many people with too many conflicting opinions. sometimes, it all went down to the person and their personal feelings or opinions. “don’t kiss until you’re sure they’re the one , because your first kiss is sacred.” “who cares about your first kiss? in reality, you’ll probably have more than one partner before you find the right one.” (that was encouraging to kai. [not.])

and when the hell do you say the three words? it’s a big deal, isn’t it? you have to mean it before you say it. but what if you say it too early, and it turns out the person isn’t on the same page? they don’t love you the same, and it was just you?

kai just doesn’t want to mess up. he knows what break-ups can do to people. you either get over it and stay good friends (not impossible but highly dependent on both parties) or you become estranged, never wanting to face each other and the feelings you had again. and while he hopes that he and yeonjun would belong to the first category, he also knows that you never know. you might agree to stay friends, but things never truly stay the same. and then you might gradually become like strangers again. he doesn’t want that for him and yeonjun, but he supposes part of him agreeing to go out with yeonjun means that he was willing to take the risk to some extent, right? surely it isn’t that he’s regretting it now after considering it further and looking back in hindsight, right?

kai’s favourite thing about being with yeonjun is that when he spends time with him, yeonjun always manages to help kai forget his worries, even for a little while. kai may wait at the door like an anxious ball of nerves, but the moment he sees yeonjun’s warm smile, welcoming him in, he feels his mind easing slowly. it’s a genuine smile, with such a fond love that kai doesn’t feel he’s deserving of it.

“hi.” yeonjun smiles as he opens the door. “hope you’re hungry. i just finished making dinner.”

“oh, good. it smells amazing!” kai beams, entering the familiar apartment that now smells of yeonjun’s signature dish.

(nothing beats the first time he’d tried yeonjun’s aglio e olio, though. kai thought it was the taste of literal heaven.)

“how was your day? how’d your presentation go?” yeonjun asks as he turns the flame off, carefully pouring the pasta into the two bowls.

“it was good. the teacher was really impressed with it, actually.” kai blushes.

“that’s great!” yeonjun beams. “i knew you could do it.”

“not without your help, of course.” kai says shyly, remembering nights of getting tips and practising in front of yeonjun.

"i didn’t do that much. it was mostly you.” yeonjun giggles, bringing the two bowls over to the couch where kai makes himself comfortable.

“thanks, hyung.” kai grins, licking his lips. “just what i need after a long day.”

“anything for you.” yeonjun pats his hair gently.

as they sit together on the couch, knee to knee, shoulder to shoulder, eating and talking about their days, kai feels more and more at home. he enjoys winding down with yeonjun and simply hearing him talk while they eat a meal together. good company, good food, as the saying goes.

when kai is with yeonjun, he feels comfortable. all it takes is one smile, one small squeeze of hands, and kai feels warm. it makes him think that he can worry about his insecurities later. for now, all he wants is to focus on yeonjun and making him happy.

“what do you want to do now?” yeonjun asks, taking their bowls to the kitchen. “i’m easy.”

“whatever hyung wants…” kai says, pulling a blanket over himself.

“that’s not an answer, darling.” yeonjun giggles as he joins kai under the blanket.

“but i mean it… i don’t mind, as long as i’m with you.” kai nods.

“i feel the same way.” yeonjun smiles. “come here.”

he opens his arms wide, beckoning for kai to cuddle him.

“oh.” kai says softly.

they haven’t really done much cuddling, especially since kai has only been here as yeonjun’s boyfriend a handful of times. honestly, he’s been wanting to cuddle more, but he was just afraid. scared that he’d come off as too clingy, or that yeonjun doesn’t actually like physical touch as much as kai does. to be fair, he didn’t know which stage in the relationship people should cuddle either.

kai nods, slowly moving over to hug yeonjun, fitting his arms underneath in an awkward hug. yeonjun laughs and pulls kai down, gently laying his head on his chest as his hand lazily threads through kai’s hair. kai settles into the position, blushing as he feels the warmth from being so close to his boyfriend. he keeps his arms firm around yeonjun as he listens to his heartbeat and its steady thumps. the stroking of his hair lulls him, calming him down and washing away his anxieties. god , he wishes he could cuddle yeonjun all the time.

“you’ve worked hard, hueningie.” yeonjun says softly.

“you too, hyung.” kai mumbles lazily.

“are you going to fall asleep?” yeonjun chuckles and kai feels it vibrate through his chest.

“maybe.” kai whispers. “this feels really nice.”

“would you stay over?”

“what?” kai looks up at yeonjun.

“i-it’s nothing. forget i asked.” yeonjun blushes madly.

“hyung.” kai whispers, turning onto his stomach as he boldly cups yeonjun’s cheek.

“forget it, kai-ah. i know you don’t want to stay over, and that’s fine.”

“it’s not that, hyungie.” kai sighs happily. “i’d love to stay over. i just… wasn’t sure if it would be too early. y’know… in the relationship. also, i think my heart would burst at the thought of waking up to you making breakfast.”

“oh? you’ve thought about this before, then.” yeonjun teases as kai remains stunned, ears turning red.

yeonjun takes his hand and kisses it tenderly.

“you know i’d never push you to do something you’re not sure about. but trust me, i’d happily welcome you to stay overnight. and besides, there’s no such thing as ‘too early’ in the relationship.” yeonjun pouts.

“well, in that case… i think staying over sounds like a great idea.” kai blushes lightly. “especially because i don’t want to move from here.”

kai feels like he’s being wrapped in a cosy cocoon, both from the blanket and from yeonjun’s warm hold on him. if he could stay here forever, he’d be content, being the subject of yeonjun’s tender love and attention. here, he feels loved. at home. like he belongs.

“rest, baby. you deserve it.” yeonjun says, kissing the top of his head before tracing lazy circles into his waist.

kai nods, succumbing to the warmth again and gradually falling asleep to the sound of yeonjun’s heartbeat and his soft music playing in the background.

indeed, kai’s dream comes true, and he wakes up to the smell of scrambled eggs and bacon. he stirs awake, the sunlight soft as the trees outside yeonjun’s window block its strong rays.

“good morning, darling.” yeonjun smiles, warm and fond as he kisses kai’s forehead.

‘god. i need this every morning.’ kai naively thinks to himself.

“good morning, hyungie.” kai says, still getting used to yeonjun’s pet names before he can even try to use his own. instead, he decides to kiss yeonjun’s cheek. “breakfast smells amazing.”

“o-oh… yeah.” yeonjun stutters, moving away in embarrassment. “it’s ready whenever you are.”

“thanks.” kai replies, stretching as he gets up from the couch, where he’d fallen asleep the previous night.

kai is lucky he only has a class in the afternoon, otherwise he would have been devastated to leave early and have to miss out on yeonjun’s breakfast. as he washes his face, he vaguely wonders if this is what it would be like, to live with yeonjun. he immediately turns down the thought, knowing that it’s way too early to be thinking about that. he can’t make time go any faster, as much as he wishes it would. sometimes, he wonders how long it will take for him to finally get to kiss yeonjun. he splashes more water on his face, internally scolding himself for the thought. he needs to take it slow. he can’t mess this up.

he leaves the bathroom without any further thoughts of the future and his dreams, enjoys a lovely breakfast with yeonjun, and gets ready to leave so that he can get home and freshen up before class. he doesn’t leave without giving yeonjun a small kiss on the cheek and a “have a good day”, though.

“hey, wait.” yeonjun says and pulls kai by the wrist gently.

kai’s heart races as yeonjun’s face is suddenly so close and then there’s a warmth pressed to his forehead.

“don’t think you can keep getting away with those small kisses.” yeonjun blushes furiously.

“okay.” kai smiles shyly.

“i’ll see you later.” yeonjun gives that fond smile that kai loves so dearly.

he leaves the apartment feeling warm inside.

a week later, kai has the comforting reassurance that yes, yeonjun loves cuddles just as much as kai does. they’ve been hanging out at each other’s places more often, but yeonjun enjoys cuddling kai even during dance club. a particularly long day had led yeonjun to hook his chin on kai’s shoulder, hands automatically squeezing his waist as he mumbled, “i’m too tired for this”. kai was surprised, although it was a pleasant one. he can’t begin to count the amount of times he’d imagined hugging yeonjun during dance club to recharge himself.

it’s not so much that they’re against pda, but that kai was just too scared to initiate it. what if yeonjun hated it? what if yeonjun didn’t want to look like ‘that couple’? what if yeonjun wanted their relationship to be more personal and secret? but with just one action, yeonjun had gotten rid of those worries. he does, in fact, like showing pda, as long as it’s not overexaggerated. he’d told kai himself, after kai hugged him and asked, “is this okay?”

needless to say, kai still enjoys their relationship in the comfort of their own homes, where they don’t have to worry about other people seeing them or what they think of them. here, he and yeonjun can be silly dancers, not giving a care about the world. they can be as loud as they want (to some extent), singing loudly as they cook together or suddenly find a playlist of nostalgic songs. they can be tender lovers, basking in each other’s company and loving in the quiet.

kai giggles as yeonjun kisses his nose, then his cheek, then his temple, and the corner of his lips. soft, light brushes of warmth.

“what are you doing, hyungie?” kai chuckles.

“kissing your moles.” yeonjun smiles fondly. “did you know that they’re really cute and pretty?”

“is that so?” kai sighs happily.

“yes. they’re so, so pretty on you.” yeonjun whispers, brushing kai’s hair back, and then kissing the mole on kai’s neck.

“you are too, yeonjun-hyung.” kai smiles back as he presses a light kiss to the mole under yeonjun’s eye.

yeonjun giggles and rests his forehead against kai’s, nuzzling them warmly together.

kai feels so light, so in love as he looks and admires his boyfriend in the stillness of the room. here is a boy who loves him. who treasures him and praises him and makes sure that he knows it. even though they’ve never exchanged the three words, kai just knows. he doesn’t need to hear it to know it, and to him, that’s incredibly wonderful and amazing.

so yes, kai’s worries and insecurities have eased a fair amount. yeonjun never fails to reassure him, even though kai had never explicitly told him about his hidden thoughts. kai is sure that yeonjun must have some psychic superpower. maybe that’s how he knows exactly when kai needs a big hug to comfort him.

but there’s still a problem.

kai doesn’t know when to have the first kiss. it’s been a month and a half. by now, he and yeonjun have only indulged in small kisses here and there, but never a proper first kiss, mouth-to-mouth. they cuddle a lot, and sometimes kai thinks it’s about to happen, but yeonjun kisses his forehead instead, or it turns out that he’d wanted to reach for something behind kai.

the thought that yeonjun doesn’t want to kiss him did enter his brain at one point, but he’d reasoned that yeonjun wouldn’t kiss him (on the forehead, his moles, his hands) at all if he didn’t want to get to a point of properly kissing. he’s proud of himself for fending off that insecurity, at least.

he thinks back to the forum about first kisses, and how everyone has different opinions. he’s certainly guilty of seeing the first kiss as something romanticised in the media, what with all the depictions of fireworks and the perfect setting and a slow build-up. surely to some extent, they’re valid… right? the first kiss in a relationship is special. it’s one of the most memorable ones, because all the kisses after that come naturally with time. you remember your first kiss, then your wedding day kiss, and perhaps some significant moments here and there.

if kai is scared of messing up this relationship, he’s definitely scared of messing up the first kiss. he knows he can’t really plan it, per se, but he can at least try to premeditate it, right? whether it’s a nice, fancy dinner, or outside during a romantic part of the date.

kai decides that yeonjun deserves only the best, so he starts to plan a date that will give plenty of perfect opportunities for a sweet first kiss. from walking alongside han river to eating ice cream at their favourite park to outside his front door, kai is sure there will be an opportunity somewhere. he’ll finally get over his nerves and kiss yeonjun, and then they’ll be able to make kissing part of their usual physical touch. (kai will worry about the three words after he nails the first kiss.)

“hueningie, wanna go get snacks at the convenience store?” yeonjun asks as they’re cuddling on his couch one friday afternoon.

“sure. i guess we did eat a lot at the last movie night.” kai laughs.

yeonjun grins and takes kai’s hand, soft and tender as ever. kai loves even mundane things like these: going to the convenience store with yeonjun, taking random walks, picking yeonjun up from his classes—he loves it all.

the 24-hour convenience store is well and truly familiar with the couple by now, knowing their tastes and what they like to buy. yeonjun loves ramen and chips, while kai likes gummies and his favourite grape juice. in the morning, he’ll often get their egg tarts, and yeonjun will buy fresh meat buns for them to share. for now, yeonjun stocks up on chips, popcorn, and buys ice cream, even though it’s getting cold. kai returns from the drinks section with his grape juice and yeonjun’s iced tea. he looks on fondly as he checks yeonjun’s basket and realises he’s gotten all of kai’s favourites.

“i didn’t miss anything, did i?” yeonjun asks.

“nope. i just…” kai smiles. “i’m grateful. you’re the best, hyung.”

“anything for my darling.” yeonjun gives a shy smile.

after they pay, yeonjun takes both bags of food and drinks without even letting kai get to them. kai smiles and heads outside with him as yeonjun checks that they have everything. he mumbles the items to himself as a verbal checklist, making kai giggle a little.

yeonjun looks absolutely stunning in the soft glow of the convenience store lights. he’s wearing his grey hoodie and shorts, which is ridiculous, considering the weather. his hair is fluffy from being recently dried and he’s wearing those glasses that kai loves. it’s nothing special. they’ve been here countless times before. but somehow, kai finds himself endeared by his boyfriend’s heart, always ready to take care of kai. his heart that knows kai so well, that captures him in love and sweeps him off his feet.

“is something wrong?” yeonjun asks softly.

kai gulps. he feels like his heart might burst out of his chest if it keeps beating so fast.

without giving it any further thought, he whispers, “i want to kiss you.”

yeonjun gasps softly, then blushes, matching kai’s own pink cheeks.

“god. i really really want to kiss you too.” yeonjun breathes out, a small puff of warmth visible in the air.

“hurry up, then.” kai smiles.

yeonjun drops the two bags, and then he steps forward. his warm hands come up to cup kai’s face and kai’s heart skips a beat as his hands rest on yeonjun’s waist. yeonjun leans in, head slightly tilted, and then their eyes flutter closed as their lips connect in sweet warmth. kai takes yeonjun in slowly, savouring how soft he is, before daring to shyly kiss back. yeonjun indulges in a few more kisses before slowly parting and resting his forehead against kai’s, their warm breaths mingling in between them.

“you have no idea how long i’ve wanted to do that for.” yeonjun whispers, his fond eyes matching kai’s gaze.

“i don’t. but i’ve been waiting longer.” kai giggles. “was that… was it okay?”

“okay? it was… perfect.” yeonjun reassures kai, capturing his lips again in a deep kiss. “you’re perfect.”

kai blushes madly, unable to respond to yeonjun’s praise.

“to tell you the truth… i was worried. i wasn’t sure how far along the first kiss should be. i was even gonna plan a date, actually.” kai laughs.

“you… what?” yeonjun laughs breathily.

“guess i couldn’t wait any longer. you just looked so kissable.” kai smirks, wrapping his arms tighter around yeonjun.

kai’s confidence grows with every word as yeonjun laughs and smiles harder, clearly content and at ease. it was the right decision to kiss him now after all.

“well, there’s more where that came from.” yeonjun says, immediately smiling in the kiss again.

kai feels himself growing slowly addicted to the taste and warmth of yeonjun’s lips. it’s even better than he’d imagined. his heart is still racing, but he’s so goddamn happy and yeonjun shares the same feelings. kai can’t get enough of yeonjun, his love on the verge of overflowing.

“come on. let’s go home. it’s warmer there.” yeonjun smiles, pressing a kiss to the mole on his nose, and then grabbing the bags again.

kai is quick to take one of the bags, replacing it with his hand before yeonjun can protest. in the glow of the night, kai falls in love again.

as kai had hoped, kissing becomes part of their routine; a way to show their affection and love to one another, no matter where they are. although, it’s incredibly hard for kai to resist kissing yeonjun for long during dance club, or when they’re in public. they’d both agreed to stick to brief kisses, sharing their distaste for couples who would openly make out and make everyone else feel single. they don’t want to be ‘that couple’. there’s a difference between couples who do it on purpose and those who do it genuinely. and besides, if kai is going to take his time with kissing yeonjun, he’d much prefer to do it in private, or where he knows few people would be watching.

in the bliss of enjoying yeonjun’s kisses, kai completely forgets about his next problem: when to say the three words. it doesn’t cross his mind, until one night, when they’re out on a date and sitting on a picnic mat, facing the han river. as he looks up, he wishes that the air were clearer, so they could actually see the wide expanse of stars. there are only a few tonight, as usual.

kai looks over at yeonjun and finds himself staring in awe as his eyes sparkle in the night. it’s crazy, how kai can get lost in his eyes so easily. how he could look into those fond eyes to admire them for longer if he wanted to.

“what?” yeonjun asks, flashing that damned fond smile of his. the one that makes kai’s heart squeeze every time.

god, he is such a goner.

it’s still insane for kai to think that they’ve been together for two months already. while the rest of his everyday life has been busy and tiring and fun, yeonjun becoming his boyfriend has definitely been a highlight. there’s nothing like it: indulging in yeonjun’s touch, being encouraged and praised, and being constantly taken care of. being so loved by him has made kai want to become a better person. he wants to be someone worthy of choi yeonjun’s love, and someone who will always give yeonjun the love he deserves.

his heart is so full of love for this sweet boy, his reliable older hyung and best friend. he is so full of love that he thinks his heart might burst at the seams, bubbling with unsaid words.

he loses his voice for a moment, afraid to speak and to ruin the fragile peace between them. so instead, he takes yeonjun’s hand and squeezes it three times, smiling fondly at his boyfriend as he says it in his heart.

“i love you.”

yeonjun simply smiles and nuzzles kai’s forehead, pressing soft fluttery kisses where he can. kai feels like he could fly .

"i love you too."

kai’s breath hitches. he looks yeonjun in the eyes, and he sees the boy he's so utterly in love with. the one he wants to spend the rest of his life with. yeonjun understands , and to kai, that means the world.

“hyung…” kai whispers.

“shhh.” yeonjun presses a finger to his lips. “you don’t have to say anything. i know.”

yeonjun squeezes his hand three times, looking down shyly as he waits. kai just laughs and squeezes back. it feels like a weight has been lifted off his chest.

“i was so worried.” kai confesses, snuggling close to yeonjun for warmth as they lean back against the tree. “this is my first relationship and… i never knew what was okay and what wasn’t. i spent so much time worrying, that i forgot the most important thing.”

“and what’s that?” yeonjun hums.

“well firstly, to communicate to you. i never should have struggled with it on my own, and i’m sorry.” kai says.

“you don’t have to apologise for that.” yeonjun says, rubbing a thumb over his hand. “we both need to work on it, okay? it’s part of learning to be a couple.”

“okay, hyung. secondly, i didn’t need to worry at all.” kai grins. “our relationship is unique to us, and i should have seen that you were loving me in every moment, even if it was never explicitly said out loud. i should have trusted you.”

“but you did.” yeonjun smiles as he hugs kai tighter and kisses the top of his head. “you trusted me with your heart, and i’m so glad you did. these two months that we’ve had together have made me so incredibly happy, sometimes i feel like i can’t contain it. but you’re forgetting one thing.”

“what’s that?” kai looks up innocently.

“you forgot to believe in yourself.” yeonjun chuckles, resting his cheek on kai’s head. “you worried so much about what you could bring to this relationship, and whether or not you were doing the right thing or not, that you forgot to trust in yourself.

“i didn’t go into this relationship blindly, you know.” yeonjun says, now sitting up and facing kai properly. “i knew that i liked you, and i wanted to get to know you more. i wanted to make the conscious effort to treasure and love you like you deserve. i wanted to spend even more time with the person who makes me the happiest."

“yeonjun-hyung,” kai whispers, breath taken by his beautiful words. “you’re perfect. i doubt myself so easily, but you pick me right up. every time i’m with you, all of my worries wash away, because i know. even without the words.

“my dearest, yeonjun,” kai blushes. “you’re the person i love the most. and you love me just the same.”

“always remember that, my love.” yeonjun smiles fondly.

then, he finally leans in for a sweet and tender kiss. it’s one that kai knows he will remember for the rest of his life. it’s warm and it makes him feel at home and it’s filled with so much tender love that kai has never been more sure in his life. that he doesn’t need words to know how yeonjun’s feeling, and the same goes for yeonjun.

all they need is each other, their whole-hearted trust, and the warm touch between them.

kai squeezes yeonjun’s hand three times.

and yeonjun squeezes back.
