Moments of Us

Summary:

Bin and Dongmin simply don't have enough time for each other with their busy schedules, so Dongmin devises a plan, steals a car, and gets them both in a lot of trouble. It's okay though, because it was worth it.

Notes:

I was inspired by this picture of binu's cafe date the other day, but all events that take place in this story are fictional. Enjoy!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

It’s well past one in the morning when a tired Bin and Sanha stumble into the front door of the group’s dorm. Sanha mumbles something that sounds somewhat like a ‘goodnight hyung’ before beelining straight to the empty bathroom, presumably to wash up before bed. Bin grunts tiredly in acknowledgement before turning towards the other bathroom. He groans in annoyance when he sees the door closed with the light on, meaning it was already occupied and he would have to wait to wash up.

Sighing, Bin goes to his room and throws his bag down. He stares at his bed, it looked so inviting, practically calling out his name. He was very much debating just calling it a night without washing up, as he simply didn’t have the energy to stay awake any longer.

“Binnie?” A soft voice calls out his name from the doorway.

Bin’s heart skips a beat and he instantly straightens up, gaining a bit of energy. He quickly turns around to see a freshly showered Dongmin standing in his doorway. “You’re here?”

“I came home a little under an hour ago. Sorry, were you waiting to shower? Binnie? What’s wrong?” As he was talking, Bin slowly approached him and pulled him into a tight hug, and as soon as he was embraced, he could feel Bin shaking.

“I’m sorry. I’m sorry you just showered and I’m still gross and sweaty and I-” Bin quickly breaks the embrace he created.

“Hey, don’t worry about that. Please calm down my love.” Dongmin says softly, reaching out and grabbing his hand. “What’s going on? Do you want to talk about it?”

“No… No, I need to clean up, I’m okay.”

“You go clean up, then come to my room and we can cuddle and talk about it, okay?”

“No! No, Min you have a flight tomorrow and a lot of schedules coming up. Please get the rest, you need it.”

Dongmin sighs, and grabs his other hand, so they’re facing each other. “Hey, my flight doesn’t leave until tomorrow afternoon, and I have no schedules before then. I have plenty of time to sleep in. So you’re going to go wash up, and then we’re going to lay in bed together. Then, if you want to, you’re going to tell me what’s going on. Does that sound okay?”

Although it takes a minute, Bin eventually nods in agreement.

“Okay, go wash up then. It’ll feel nice to be clean again. I’ll be waiting for you in my room.” Dongmin says softly, planting a soft kiss right above Bin’s eyebrow, before leaving to let Bin go clean up.

Though he doesn’t really want to, Bin forces himself to go shower off and get ready for bed.

~*~

It’s only thirty minutes later when a freshly showered, hair-still-dripping-wet Bin enters Dongmin’s room. Dongmin immediately puts down the book he had been reading and smiles at Bin.

“Did you bring a dry towel with you?”

Bin nods a bit, holding up the dry towel in his hand.

“Good. Come sit.” Dongmin says, pointing to the floor in front of the bed.

Bin silently crosses the room after closing the door, handing Dongmin the towel before sitting on the floor in front of the bed.

Dongmin takes the towel and moves to sit on the edge of the bed, before beginning to gently towel-dry Bin’s hair. He works quickly, while humming a soft tune. Neither of them say anything to the other until Dongmin deems Bin’s hair is as dry as it’s going to get with a towel.

“All done.” Dongmin hums, shaking his hand through Bin’s hair to fluff it up.

“Thank you Min.” Bin says softly, leaning back onto the bed.

“Don’t get too comfy on the floor. Come join me on the bed.” Dongmin smiles, throwing the towel into his laundry basket.

“Sounds like a lot of effort.” Bin whines.

“Come on, I’ll help. Up we go.” Dongmin laughs a small bit, grabbing Bin’s hand and helping pull him up to his feet.

Almost as soon as he’s up enough, Bin just allows himself to fall into the bed. He lays there for a moment before finally wiggling around enough to get comfy, ending with his head on Dongmin’s chest.

Dongmin gently plays with his hair and entangles their legs. “Are you ready to talk about what’s bothering you Binnie?” He asks softly after a minute.

“It… It’s kind of stupid.”

“If it’s making you upset then it’s not stupid. Will you tell me?”

Bin sighs a bit, clearly debating how to phrase it. “It’s… it’s just… I miss you.” He starts out softly. “I know we technically see each other most days, but it’s basically in passing. We’ve been like the sun and the moon lately, only together for a brief period of time while one rises and the other falls. Don’t get me wrong, I am so grateful that we're both doing well lately, really, I am. However with all the schedules… I mean you’ve had shoots and local fan meets, and now you’re touring for your solo fan meeting, and I’ve had a bunch of different photoshoots and some different festival performances with Sanha… we just have no time for each other lately. Not that we’ve ever really had all that much time for each other to be fair, but it’s been extra harsh lately. We haven’t been on a date in so long. Well, our version of a date at least since you know, the world would explode if we dated publicly according to our company.” Bin mumbles, cuddling into his boyfriend more. “And you fly to Bangkok tomorrow for your fan meeting, I have last day of rehearsals for Water Bomb festival with Sanha… I just wish we had more time for us. That’s all.”

“I get it.” Dongmin sighs softly. “Trust me, I’ve been missing you a lot too. I mean before at least we had an hour or so at the dorm pretty much nightly to be with each other, but it’s been just insane lately. I’ll talk to manager hyung about it. He’s always been good at negotiating time off for us when we need it.”

“The company doesn’t like when we take time off to be together.”

“Manager hyung told me he was going to lie to them next time we asked for time off since they got so angry last time. I’ll talk to him about it on the drive to the airport tomorrow, okay?”

Finally, Bin nods in agreement. “Okay, thank you Min. Sorry if I was acting strange earlier. Honestly I was just… having a rough day and I got a little overwhelmed when I actually got to see you.”

“You don’t have to apologize for anything, Binnie. I always welcome your hugs, even if I just showered and you’re all sweaty.” Dongmin smiles a bit. “Will you kiss me now?”

“I think I can do that.” Bin smiles back, rearranging a bit so he could lean up and kiss Dongmin.

The two lazily make out for a bit before Bin ends their make out session with a yawn.

“Ah… I think that’s my body trying to tell me it wants to sleep now.” He jokes before leaving one last soft kiss on Dongmin’s lips.

“It is almost three in the morning now. Sleep sounds nice.” Dongmin hums in agreement, adjusting again so he could properly cuddle Bin again.

Bin practically purrs in content. He was in his favorite place in the whole world: Dongmin’s arms. “Goodnight Min. I love you so much.” He manages to get out, before rather quickly falling asleep.

Dongmin chuckles to himself and closes his eyes. “I love you too, Binnie.”

~*~

“Binnie.” Dongmin whispers, trying to shake Bin awake for the third time the next morning.

Bin finally stirs after the third attempt at waking him.

“Binnie, I need you to wake up. I have a proposition.”

“Mhm? Min?” Bun grumbles, just hardly awake. “Thought you were sleepin’ in… since your flight doesn’t leave ‘till later.”

“I’m pretty positive my body is incapable of sleeping in at this point.” Dongmin shrugs. “Anyway I have a question.”

“What’s up?” Bin mumbles, without opening his eyes.

“How would you feel about getting in a lot of trouble and missing some practice today?”

“Exactly how much trouble are we talking?” Bin replies, finally rubbing his eyes and forcing himself to look at Dongmin. He noticed that Dongmin looked excited, with a devious glint in his eyes.

“I stole a company car, Sanha is the only one who technically knows where we’ll be and that you won’t be to practice on time, and there’s about an eighty percent chance we’ll be caught by dispatch.”

“You were right, that’s a lot of trouble.” Bin smiles. “I’m in.”

“Good. Get dressed, just something comfortable. Also pack your bag for practice!” Dongmin smiles, kissing Bin’s forehead.

“Really? No clues about what I actually just agreed to?” Bin asks, finally sitting up.

“That would ruin all the fun! Now hurry up! The sooner you’re ready the more time we’ll have!”

“Alright, alright! I’m moving!” Bin laughs, stretching a bit before getting out of bed, and going straight to Dongmin’s closet, not bothering to go to his room, since their clothes end up mixed up all the time anyway. “I’ve been looking for these!” Bin cheers, grabbing a pair of comfortable black pants, then grabs the first shirt he happens to land his eyes on, a black short sleeve shirt with yellow lettering on the back.

Dongmin watches in amusement as his boyfriend changes. “You are aware it’s summer, yes?”

“Don’t you worry, I’m pairing this outfit with my sandals!” Bin cheers as he works on changing into the outfit he just picked out.

Dongmin can’t help but laugh. “How did I end up falling in love with an absolute fashion disaster?”

“Hey! Not everyone can look amazing in-” Bin stops to take a look at what Dongmin was wearing. “In a white shirt and khaki shorts like you do! Not everyone is a literal God that walks on earth!” He grumbles, finishing getting dressed before walking towards Dongmin and kissing his cheek before continuing out of the room and towards the bathroom.

“Don’t fix your hair! Just wear a hat, we don't have time!” Dongmin reminds him.

Bin makes a noise of acknowledgement before going into the bathroom. After using the bathroom he quickly washes his face and his teeth, puts some contacts in so he can see, and runs a brush through his hair. He then heads out of the bathroom and towards his room to pack his bag for practice, where he finds Dongmin already packing for him.

“I don’t know if you need anything besides what you usually pack, but I’ve got everything you normally bring to practice packed already.” Dongmin smiles, handing him a black baseball cap.

“Sorry, was I not moving fast enough?” Bin jokes accepting the hat. “Thanks, Min. That should be everything I need for practice.”

“Good! Then we’re ready to leave.” Dongmin smiles, before pulling Bin into a soft kiss.

Bin happily kisses back, holding Dongmin close.

“Good morning, by the way.” Dongmin smiles, breaking the kiss. “Now come on! We have trouble to be getting into.” He laughs, pulling Bin towards the door.

“This better be worth it, Lee Dongmin!” Bin warns, but they both knew it was an empty threat. Any time he got to spend with Dongmin was worth whatever trouble they got in.

“It will be!” Dongmin promises excitedly, pulling Bin out the door the second they both have their shoes on.

After happily singing a few songs in the car as Dongmin drives, the car pulls into a parking lot.

“Where are we?” Bin asks as Dongmin parks and turns off the car.

“A new café I heard about in town!” Dongmin smiles back happily. “If we’re going to get caught by dispatch, this is where we’re going to be caught. We’re only going to order here, then we’re going to bring the food somewhere else where we can actually enjoy it like we’re on a date.”

Bin can’t help but get all excited about their mini date that Dongmin had set up. “I mean as long as we’re not making out, getting caught by dispatch shouldn’t be too big of an issue.”

“That’s true, so try your best to keep your lips to yourself for a few minutes!” Dongmin jokes. “Come on, delicious food awaits!”

The two go into the café together, being sure to stay close but not holding hands since they were in public. Not too long after they enter, they leave with a huge bag full of different sweets and pastries, along with a coffee for each of them.

“There really is a certain thrill to going out in public without any disguises.” Dongmin laughs, starting the car back up.

“Think we got caught?”

“There is not a single doubt in my mind, we definitely got caught. Just a matter of time before at least one picture ends up online. Which reminds me, turn your location off on your phone unless you want to be hunted down by the company once they realize you’re not where you’re supposed to be.” Dongmin nods, starting to drive off in another direction.

“You really thought this through, didn’t you?” Bin asks in amusement, grabbing his phone and turning off his location.

“I like to be thorough.” Dongmin hums back.

“So where exactly are we going that is private enough for us to actually be able to have a mini date?”

“You’ll see soon. It’s actually a place that our manager found. He showed it to me a few weeks ago, then promised me he’d never come looking for me here unless it was an emergency. He said he checked it out several times before showing it to me and never once saw anyone nearby, and told me to use the knowledge of this place ‘as I see fit.’” Dongmin explains.

“We really do have a great manager. It’s nice knowing at least one person at the company actually cares about us as people.” Bin smiles.

“I agree. I know it’s not much… but having somewhere that we can go… just us two… escape from the world… feel like a normal couple for ten seconds?”

“I’m excited to see it.” Bin smiles looking over at Dongmin. “While it would be nice to be able to go on a big fancy date… we can’t. So we have to make the most out of the little moments we have, even if I’m starting to think you’re kidnapping me.” He laughs, noticing they seemed to be driving into the woods.

“One day… one day I’m going to take you on the big fancy date you deserve.” Dongmin promises as he parks the car. “But for now, grab your practice bag then please follow me into the woods, where I may or may not murder you.” He jokes, getting out of the car, grabbing the bag of food they bought earlier.

“If I’m going to get murdered, at least your face will be the last thing I see!” Bin cheers, not questioning the request for him to bring his practice bag, then also grabbing both of the coffees and getting out, walking after him.

The two walk a short way into the woods before Dongmin stops. “We’re here!” He announces proudly.

“Here?” Bin asks, taking another couple steps forward. Then he sees it, they’re in a very small clearing, on the top of a small cliff, overlooking a large river. “Holy shit.”

“It’s pretty, isn’t it?” Dongmin smiles, setting down the bag. “Can I have your practice bag please?”

“It’s beautiful.” Bin smiles, handing Dongmin his bag. “The sky is really pretty. I bet this spot is amazing on a clear night, you would be able to see so many stars!”

“We’ll have to come back at some point during the night time.” Dongmin nods. “Come sit!” He says excitedly, patting the blanket he had just finished setting out.

“Wait, where did you get the blanket from?” Bin asks, finally turning his attention toward his boyfriend instead of the sky.

“I packed it in your practice bag this morning.”

“Ah, so you weren’t trying to be helpful, you were trying to be sneaky!” Bin laughs, joining Dongmin on the blanket, handing him one of the coffees.

“Who says I wasn’t trying to be helpful while I was trying to be sneaky?” He laughs back, happily accepting the coffee and moving their bag of delicacies onto the blanket with them.

“Mhm whatever you say!” Bin teases, reaching over and starting to pull some of the food out of the bag.

Dongmin starts to help, and the two of them quickly unpack all of their sweets and pastries, laying them out on the blanket in front of them.

“Well, breakfast is served!” Dongmin cheers, picking a strawberry filled pastry to try first.

Bin watches Dongmin take his first bite, loving the way his face lights up when he realizes just how tasty the pastry was.

“Binnie, you have to try this.” Dongmin says excitedly, holding it out for him to take a bite.

Bin doesn’t fight it, gladly accepting the bite. “Now these people know how to make a yummy treat!” He exclaims after trying it. He then reaches for a blueberry muffin, ready to try another treat.

For the next forty-five minutes, the two take turns trying all the different sweets and pastries they bought, excitedly offering bites to the other when they find one they particularly enjoyed.

“Ah, Min you have a little something- wait what am I doing no one can see us.” Bin laughs to himself, before reaching over and gently wiping off crumbs from Dongmin’s lips.

Dongmin’s cheeks quickly become red. It was such a simple gesture, but it made him flustered, no matter how many times Bin did it. “A-ah thank you Binnie.” He says shyly, before quickly packing up their leftovers.

“We don’t have to leave yet do we? Can we stay a little longer?” Bin asks softly.

Dongmin checks his watch, before smiling back at Bin, and slowly reaching out and intertwining their hands. “Don’t worry, we still have plenty of time before we have to leave in order for me to be able to make my flight on time. Let’s lay down and look at the clouds?” Dongmin suggests.

“That sounds nice.” Bin agrees, happily laying down first, letting Dongmin lay his head on his chest.

Dongmin happily accepts the invitation, snuggling in close.

“Are you excited for your fan meeting tomorrow?” Bin asks quietly, slipping his hand under Dongmin’s shirt and rubbing small circles on his back, simply wanting the skin to skin contact.

“Well…” Dongmin sighs. “Yes? You know how I feel about them. I enjoy getting to see and interact with the fans, but it’s awkward. Yeah, I have OSTs and I guess now I have a solo song, but I am not a solo artist. They always make me sing and dance to ASTRO songs anyways… So why can’t they just send us to these fan meets as a group, you know? Plus, the fact that my fan meeting is at the same time as the water bomb festival… I’d rather be stalking twitter with the fans to see what you are going to do!” He laughs.

“Yeah, I honestly don’t know why the company makes you do these fan meetings, it’s strange. Also don’t worry, I’ll be sure to send you the best pictures and videos that I find afterwards! Plus a private video, just for you.”

“You better! Though I’d rather see it in person.” Dongmin pouts.

“I give you private performances in the shower ALL the time!” Bin laughs.

This causes Dongmin to laugh in return. “Oh Binnie, it is so not the same! How’s convincing Sanha to go shirtless coming along?”

“Better than expected! He said he doesn’t want to dance shirtless, so I’m trying to convince him to be shirtless for our ending statements, and he’s considering it.”

“To be fair, going shirtless next to you is frightening. Your muscles make everyone else look small.”

“You sound a lot like he did when I first told him he should go shirtless.” Bin chuckles, then gets distracted by a cloud he notices. “Min, look at that cloud! It looks like a teddy bear.”

“... I don’t see it.”

“Give me a minute.” Bin hums, taking out his phone and taking a picture of the sky, before quickly outlining the shape of the bear.

“We should take some pictures while your phone is out.” Dongmin smiles, no longer caring about the bear. “My phone could really use a new lock screen, the one I have now is so old.”

“What do you have on it now?” Bin asks, switching to the camera app, also forgetting about the bear.

“It’s still a picture of us from the trip to the Golden Gate Bridge we went on.”

“You weren’t kidding, that picture is old.” Bin laughs, sitting the two of them up.

“I’ve been meaning to pick a new picture for a long time, I just keep forgetting.” Dongmin nods, resting his chin on Bin’s shoulder, letting Bin take control of the pictures.

Bin doesn’t bother replying, just focusing on snapping pictures. They take a couple of cuter ones, and a few silly ones. Then, suddenly Dongmin leans in and kisses Bin’s cheek, resulting in an adorable photo of Bin giggling in surprise as Dongmin’s lips meet his cheek.

“Let me see!” Dongmin smiles, making grabby hands at Bin’s phone.

Bin smiles and hands Dongmin his phone.

“Yes! This is perfect.” Dongmin smiles. “Send it to me once we’re back in service!”

“Will do.” Bin hums, taking his phone back.

“When was the last time you changed your lock screen?”

“Mhm, after our last night at the old company building, when we snuck up to the rooftop during the party they held.”

“Wait, we didn’t take any pictures up there though? What on earth did you change it to?”

“Have I not shown it to you?” Bin asks, hitting the button on his phone to show Dongmin the lock screen.

“Why have I never seen this photo?!” Dongmin asks in shock. It was a photo of the two of them during the sunset. Dongmin was leaning against the gate that kept people from falling, facing towards the camera, his face buried in Bin’s neck, while Bin faced away from the camera, holding Dongmin tightly.

“I could’ve sworn I showed this to you. Jin hyung had come up there for some reason and snapped this photo of us. He sent it to me and told me to show it to you. I guess I forgot.” Bin chuckles.

“I can’t believe you forgot to show me such a precious picture!” Dongmin whines.

“I’m sorry! Forgive me?” Bin asks cutely.

“Maybe for some kisses.”

Bin rolls his eyes playfully. “That’s so cheesy.” He hums, pulling Dongmin in for some kisses anyway.

Their kisses are interrupted almost as soon as they start by a ring coming from Dongmin’s phone.

“Please tell me that’s not what I think it is.” Bin sighs, knowing they don’t have enough service for a call to go through.

“I’m sorry Binnie.” Dongmin pouts, picking up his phone. “I knew if I didn’t set an alarm we’d lose track of time, I can’t be late for my flight.”

“Yeah I know.” Bin grumbles.

“Hey, once I get manager hyung to get us time off, let’s plan a little vacation. Just the two of us. Let’s go somewhere.”

Bin smiles a bit, and squeezes Dongmin’s hand. “That would be nice.”

“Let’s discuss more once I’m back in Korea, okay?” Dongmin smiles back.

“Okay.” Bin nods in agreement, before forcing himself to his feet, and offering Dongmin a hand up.

Dongmin happily accepts the help, bringing Bin into a tight hug once he’s on his feet. “Thank you for coming with me, despite the fact we are 100% going to get in trouble.”

“Thank you for planning this. Seriously Min.” Bin mumbles, holding Dongmin close. “I cherish small moments like these, where it’s just us and we can just… be us for a bit.”

“Me too.” Dongmin hums, burying his face into Bin’s neck.

They stand like this for a moment, before Dongmin’s phone begins to sound again.

“Let me guess, a second alarm because you knew we wouldn’t leave after the first one?” Bin chuckles, backing out of the embrace after kissing the top of Dongmin’s head.

“… maybe.” Dongmin laughs back, turning off the alarm and grabbing the bag of their leftover sweets.

Bin quickly folds up the blanket and grabs his rehearsal bag. “Alright, off we go then, back to the normal world.”

“Unfortunately.” Dongmin sighs, following Bin back out to the car.

Dongmin drives the two of them towards the company building so he can drop Bin off for practice and return the car. As they get back into an area with better cell service, Both of their phones start blowing up.

Bin grabs his phone since he wasn’t driving. “Yup, we got caught.” He laughs, looking at the picture that was sent to him by a mid level executive along with a long angry message. “Higher ups are not happy about it. However manager hyung said as long as you make your flight on time he doesn’t care, and that he’s working on fighting the higher ups for us.”

“Pretty much what I expected.” Dongmin nods. “Getting in trouble was worth it though, right?”

“It was so worth it.” Bin confirms with a large smile. “I love you.”

“I love you too.”
