In This Light (The Stars Don't Do You Justice)

Summary:

His words die in his throat when his gaze meets Taehyun’s own, mouth running dry. His attention flickers down to plump, glossy lips, wondering how they’d look all bitten and swollen, before trailing back up to Taehyun’s eyes. The television does him so nicely, like this, softly dusting his features.

It turns into static in the back of his head, too focused on the things he can’t say while Taehyun’s cheek nuzzles into his outreached palm.

“Taehyun-ah.” Soobin’s voice is low, thumb lingering on the edge of Taehyun’s plush lip. “You’re so pretty, kitty.”

Notes:

this entire thing was rushed and the product of a 1am brainrot... i have my midemiz to thank for that... i honestly wasn't sure about how i felt about it, because this was my first time attempting more elaborate kiss scenes but i hope you enjoy it! ^___^

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

If there’s one thing everyone knows about Kang Taehyun, it’s that as affectionate as he is, he’s hard to fluster. And Choi Soobin, for all his laziness, can be dedicated when he chooses to be. As the leader and #1 Solomon, he makes it his own personal mission to fluster Kang Taehyun – ‘because how else are you going to try catching your crush’s attention, right?’

Ugh, he still hears Beomgyu’s laughter in the back of his head, smothering it with a pillow. He doesn’t want to hear it from his traitor of a best friend who went and got two boyfriends before he did. Not just one! But two ! Soobin considers their anniversary a personal attack towards himself.

Anyway, Soobin really thought he had it in the bag this time. He’s done so much already – wearing more fitted shirts around the dorm, pressing himself up against Taehyun’s back while the latter is cooking. He’s starting to think Yeonjun’s advice isn’t working.

But he’d taken a deep breath before stepping out of the shower, towel loosely hanging off his waist and water dripping down as he makes his way towards the living room.

“Taehyun-ah, have you seen my —” he’s cut off with a pillow straight to the face, whining when he picks it up and tosses it back to a shrieking Beomgyu. Next to him is the love of his life, looking more surprised than anything else. All Soobin gets is a glimpse of his reddened ears before they both turn away from him.

“Soobin-hyung,” Taehyun starts off, voice high and strained, “deal with your problem in the shower instead of parading it around next time.”

Oh.

Well, that’s definitely one way of flustering Kang Taehyun. Safe to say, Soobin’s attempts since haven’t worked out because Taehyun refuses to meet his eyes for a week after.

They’re in America now. Soobin isn’t really sure if the rumoured American air is doing something to them, but Taehyun does seem a little… sexier. Maybe there’s weed in the air, because there’s no other explanation for how high Choi Soobin gets every time he sees Taehyun’s muscles flexed in a picture.

The recent one they’d posted with him in a sleeveless shirt was definitely something. It haunts Soobin when he closes his eyes, all he sees are Kang Taehyun’s stupid muscles, makes him wonder if he’s strong enough to lift Soobin up against a wall now. Oh, isn’t that a thought? Kang Taehyun makes him feel like a teenager.

Especially with how easily he distracts him, Jesus fucking Christ. Where was he again? Ah, right. They’d wanted to drink together on their last few nights, which is why they have the boyfriends completely passed out on Soobin’s bed.

The night had started out fun and lively, taking body shots off of each other and laughing so loud they’d earned a complaint from the room next door. Not that it wasn’t expected, what else could you ask from a group of five grown men drinking together?

There are popsicle wrappers on the floor, bags of snacks that were left unfinished as Soobin carefully navigated both him and Taehyun to his room instead. They’d rather not be witness to whatever the boyfriends get up to when they finally wake up.

Physical affection wasn’t something new to the members, but there was just something a little more tender about the position that the two had ended up in.

They’re seated up on Soobin’s hotel bed, backs pressed against the headboard. The television plays a random channel in the background, Taehyun’s gazed fixed on it though his eyes are hazy. Its light gently illuminates his features as he cuddles up into the older.

In another life, maybe, when they’re not idols on the constant cusp of a scandal.

Soobin ignores it for the sake of the heat building up within him, hand twitching in an attempt to stop himself from pulling the younger closer. He doesn’t have to, when Taehyun nuzzles into the side of his neck, hot breath fanning against the skin. Kang Taehyun wants him dead.

The older doesn't know if he can slip away to fix his problem in the shower this time, instead smothering it beneath a pillow as he tries to focus on the protagonist of this shitty movie rather than how close Taehyun’s lips are to his neck. His breathing softens after a moment, Soobin curiously pulling away to see if the smaller had fallen asleep.

For a moment, Taehyun goes quiet and Soobin thinks this is it. This is how I render Kang Taehyun flustered and speechless.

But then Taehyun is climbing into the older’s lap and straddling him, eyes half-lidded and lips curled in a challenge. His hands graze up Soobin’s torso, feeling the firm muscles underneath before his arms wrap around his neck. They’re barely a hair apart, so close that if Soobin just tilts his head up, their lips would be meeting.

They hadn’t drank much, Soobin knows this, but there’s no other explanation for the heat that pools in his gut, fingertips digging into Taehyun’s waist.

In hindsight, Soobin should have known that whatever bullet he shoots, Taehyun will bite and shove it down Soobin’s own throat.

“I’m hyungie’s pretty little kitten, aren’t I?”

And Soobin will swallow.

His hand surges up to grab Taehyun’s nape, pulling the latter into a searing kiss. Soobin’s mouth is hot against his, leaving his mark on Taehyun’s lips and claiming them for himself — Taehyun isn’t sure if he can ever kiss anyone else after this. It’s hot and consuming, so unlike the romantic first kiss that Taehyun had dreamt up in his trainee days, back when Soobin had first come into his room after being told of his leader position.

Well, Soobin is definitely a born leader, if his kisses are anything to go by. The hand on Taehyun’s nape squeezes lightly and it pries a whine out of him, shoved down by Soobin’s tongue forcing its way into the younger’s mouth. Taehyun tries to keep up with his pace, but the heat of everything – Soobin’s hand crawling under his shirt to rest on his waist, the firm grip he has on Taehyun – has his brain melting and knees falling weak. He relents for a little, letting Soobin map out each crevice and familiarise himself before he meets him in the middle once more.

Taehyun doesn’t know how he’s ever gone without Soobin’s lips on his, because a soft cry of ‘hyung’ leaves him the moment they part. Soobin’s throat is parched from want, gaze darkened as his gaze flees down to Taehyun’s kiss-swollen lips.

“The prettiest there is,” Soobin murmurs, and it’s all Taehyun needs to card his fingers through Soobin’s hair and tug him down into another kiss.

They’re tangled in each other when they wake up the morning after. Soobin isn’t very sure if he’d told Taehyun the extent of his feelings the night before, brain a little too muddled with the thoughts of Taehyun, Taehyun’s hands on him, Taehyun in his lap – Taehyun in his arms as the younger sleeps peacefully. All the members have slept together before, Taehyun sometimes climbing into his bed when he doesn’t feel like sleeping alone, but somewhere along the night, something shifted.

A click. Something falling into place; or maybe it has always been there, it just took Soobin a while to truly notice it. Regardless, he brushes a few strands of Taehyun’s hair away from his sleeping face, a soft smile playing on his lips at the sight. His arm has gone numb from Taehyun resting on it, but he pulls him closer anyway.

He leans down to press a kiss against Taehyun’s forehead, only to be surprised when the younger’s head tilts up for their lips to meet instead. It’s soft, languidly basking in each other’s presence as the morning light peeks through their curtains.

“Good morning, hyungie,” Taehyun greets him with the cutest set of half-asleep eyes, drawing a giggle out of Soobin as he kisses him again.

“Sleep well?”

“I always do when I’m with you.” The words strike a chord in Soobin, heart filling with a warm fondness. And ah , he thinks, better to say it now.

Taehyun’s brows are furrowed when Soobin pulls back slightly to look at him properly, admiring the flush of Taehyun’s cheeks and pouty lips.

“Taehyun-ah, I like you a lot.”

The words are easy to say – everything with them has always been so easy , maybe Soobin had just been too much of a coward to accept them until then. But for all the words that Soobin stumbles and stutters over, this is something that he knows will never waver. He likes Taehyun in every sense of the confession, this lasting fondness that refuses to crumble.

Soobin expects a witty response, something along the lines of ‘ I know, hyungie ’, or a simple ‘ I like you too ’.

What he gets is the morning light accentuating the blush on Taehyun’s cheeks, painting a rose-red picture that Soobin imprints and tucks away in a corner of his heart. He gets a Taehyun whose mouth opens and closes with no response but small whimpers of ‘hyung’, his reply to Soobin’s confession muffled in the fabric of Soobin’s t-shirt.

What he gets is an adorable boyfriend who he’d give up all the video games in the world for, Taehyun’s lips pressing into his jaw as he repeats his ‘I like you’s to Soobin over and over again.

Kang Taehyun is a hard person to fluster, sure, but Choi Soobin knows all the ways to reduce him into a cute mess that’s just so Taehyun.

He’s proven wrong later on, though, when Taehyun looks up at him with the brightest eyes as he tells Soobin he loves him for the first time.

( Soobin cries. Taehyun is there. He always is. )
