Chapter Text
Bakugou didn’t like sweet foods.
That was something Eijirou found out one time when the blond had stayed over at his house one weekend. His mom had made her famous strawberry cream pie, one of Eijirou’s favorites, but Bakugou had only picked at a couple bites with a neutral expression before stopping.
Eijirou had caught the grimace peeking through the neutrality and poked Bakugou about it when they were back in the privacy of his bedroom. He’d asked if his friend thought the pie was gross, but he had shaken his head.
“Nah,” Bakugou had said, not looking away from his phone from his spot on the floor, his back leaned against Eijirou’s bed, fluffy blond hair brushing against the redhead’s knee. “I’m just not a fan of sweets.”
And it was all sweets apparently. No pies, no cakes, and definitely no candy. Turns out being surrounded by the caramel scent of nitro sweat for a decade turns you off from just about anything with the slightest amount of sugar in it.
Bakugou’s tolerance has increased over the years, though. He can handle mochi alright, and he can deal with ice cream on a good day, but usually he steers clear of anything sugary. It does explain why he tends to eat foods at the maximum spice level though.
“Also, I’m training to be a hero,” he’d added. “I don’t need that sugary shit in my diet, s’not healthy.”
Which, fair. But Eijirou liked sweets, so he wasn’t going to be as strict with his diet.
But yeah. Bakugou didn’t like sweets.
That didn’t stop Eijirou from placing a bag of cookies on the table between their textbooks during one of their study sessions.
Bakugou glanced up from his homework, eyeing the treats before turning his gaze to Eijirou, eyebrow raised. “The fuck is this?”
Eijirou simply grinned. “They’re for you man.”
Bakugou frowned. “You know I don’t like sweet shit.”
“I know, but try ‘em, yeah? I think you’ll like them.”
Bakugou’s eyes narrowed, red eyes scrutinizing Eijirou, and the redhead did his best not to fidget under his friend’s intense gaze, keeping the easy smile on his face.
He must have passed whatever test Bakugou was giving him because his gaze finally fell back to the cookies, glaring at them for a solid minute as if they had wronged him by simply existing before he finally sighed. He reached for the ziplock bag, pulling it open and taking out a single cookie.
Eijirou’s hands were tight on his knees, and he was just barely keeping them from hardening in his anxiety as he watched Bakugou inspect the cookie, turning it over to look at both sides before taking a tentative bite. He chewed for only a second before his eyebrows furrowed in confusion. “What the fuck?”
“What do you think?” Eijirou asked, trying not to give away his nerves.
“It’s fucking spicy.” Despite the growing confusion on his face, Bakugou finished the cookie and grabbed another, shoving the entire thing in his mouth this time. “It’s like, it’s still sweet but the fucking spice is overpowering it and what the fuck?” He looked at Eijirou, and he tried not to laugh at the sheer bafflement on Bakugou’s face. The guy could handle just about everything that came at him but got thrown off by a cookie? Eijirou had to do this again.
“Where the hell did you get these?” Bakugou asked as soon as he swallowed.
The nerves returned full-force, and Eijirou scratched his cheek, averting his eyes. “I-I uh, asked Satou to help me make them. Ever since you told me you didn’t like sweets I thought that it kinda sucked that your quirk was taking away something so good, so I was thinking of ways that you could still enjoy sweets, and I thought of these. I know they’re not really sweet but um, yeah.”
When Bakugou didn’t immediately respond Eijirou chanced a glance at him; the blond was just staring at him, his usual glare completely gone, lines smoothed out, eyes wide, mouth slightly gaping. It made Eijirou’s face burn.
“You made these?”
“I-I mean, Satou did most of the work. He already had a chocolate chip cookie recipe and he adapted it a bit to include the spice. He added some cayenne seasoning and some kind of pepper- I can’t remember what he called it but all I really did was hand him stuff and-”
“Kiri.”
Eijirou’s mouth snapped shut. Bakugou was still looking at him, but the shock was gone, a smirk tugging at his lips from Eijirou’s rambling. “We gotta make more of these, got it?” he said, picking up the bag of cookies.
Eijirou’s eyes widened. “Wait, you actually like them?”
Bakugou looked at him like he was an idiot. “Do I fucking- of course I like them! They’re way better than regular cookies.”
A bright grin spread across Eijirou’s face. “That’s awesome man! I gotta get the recipe from Satou, but yeah, we can make more!”
“We better.” Bakugou settled back down, grabbing another cookie as he went back to doing his homework. Warmth spread through Eijirou’s chest, and the smile refused to leave his face as he went back to reading his textbook.
