Another Romeo and Juliet Story

Summary:

A modern retelling of Romeo and Juliet. You must deal with teenage rebellion and quick love.

…..

Aka a freshmen year English writing assignment I wrote when I was 14 that was 28 google doc pages long when double spaced.
……

I got a 98 on the paper by the way.

Notes:

This has been untouched since I turned this in my freshmen year of high school. My teacher told me this was the longest response she got to this prompt that she had been given to students for years. It will come to a shock to no one that this wasn’t the only school assignment that I made about Steve and Sharon. I also did a monochromatic Steve/Sharon painting of the kiss from civil war later that year for an art project. I can’t find that painting, which I am very sad about, but hey I still have this poorly written fanfic that was a mash of very very limited comic knowledge that I had at the time.

Looking back I don’t thing this was as good of a written piece as my 14 year old self thought it was…. But hey…. I got the best grade in the class.

Please keep in mind I had to stick to the prompt of teenage rebellion and quick love, so I definitely took many liberties with aging down the and the role of characters.

Again this is not that great of a fic, very clearly written by a teenager.

Work Text:

The few years after the news of the fifteen-year-old super soldier war hero, Captain America, had resurfaced from being trapped in the ice everyone seemed to think that they could also be a hero. Every kid had that spark of hope in their eyes that they could be like him. They thought they had the guts, the wits, the training, and the right to fight the ‘bad guys.’ They thought they had to right to be the hero, and to stand a chance in the spotlight. Considering the fact that the teen superhero wasn’t just a part of a story they were told when you were younger. Heroes were real. Captain America, Black Widow, Iron Man, Falcon, Black Panther, Nomad, The Winter Soldier and a lot more. They are real they were alive people they were inspiring they were people making a great difference, so people started thinking ‘Why couldn't I do that too?’

The fighting had all started after a group of teens with no training, nothing, had decided it was their chance to take a stand, make a change and save people. They thought it was their fight to be fought.  However, it wasn’t, it was only something to cause more trouble in the world. They were just kids getting into something that they had no business dealing with, no business being a part of. It was trouble from the start and trouble to the end. The kids were outmatched by many things, and out skilled, which led to their deaths and the deaths of many citizens, when they tried to be the heroes. It was a tragedy no one was ready for.

Something had to be done about what had happened, the damage and destruction, the deaths, and the lack of responsibility. There needed to be more control, or at least some form of control. The question at hand to the governments of the world was ‘Who would pay?’ Would it be the villains, the bad guys, which were so hard to get your hands on, or the heroes that everyone was supposed to believe in? One thing was for sure that the government was not the one to blame. To the governments of the world it was a hard decision to make, but through politics, the answer was easy to find. The heroes would pay, they needed to be put in check for their actions.

Rumors had started to spread to the heroes of an Accord and an Act for them to sign, to give up their freedom of choice, and their identity, or retire. If you didn’t do one of the three you were considered criminal, a vigilante. To some superheroes, it was an easy choice to make, in case the rumors were true, but to others, it was like an option in the faded gray area in a world which so many considered as a simple black and white situation. It split heroes apart, just the idea and the rumors. Friends, teammates, and families had been ripped apart at the seams, with something that seemed would never be able to be repaired.

Most heroes were very strong on their opinions of the matter than others. Some of those heroes had turned aggressive, trying to force others to be on their side of it. They started stating things like ‘It’s your duty to sign’ or other’s saying that it was too dangerous to their loved ones, all the freedoms they would have to give up. The aggressive words turned into small and private fights. The fight’s got bigger between fellow heroes and friends, to the point that it was hard to say a single ‘Hello’ to someone with an opposite viewpoint on the ordeal without causing a messy fight leading to someone getting a hospital bill.

Over the next few months of the Sokovia Accords and the Superhero Registration Acts supposedly being formed, it was hard for even the closest of teammates to not turn against each other on their own training grounds.

Tony Stark, Iron Man, unlike his fellow teammates Sam Wilson, The Falcon, and Bucky Barnes, The Winter Soldier, and the young war hero Steve Rogers, Stark was pro-Accords and Registration. It had become easier for the four of them to get into heated arguments, and for it to spark with a just a simple glance, always becoming something more than just sparing.

Steve Rogers was a hero who had seemed long forgotten by the time S.H.IE.L.D. had found the young man in the ice four years prior. He had bravely sacrificed himself for his country in the years of World War II. Due to his sacrifice and being found around  seventy years after being in the ice. He became known as ‘The Teen Out of Time.’ He was a young hero, and in a very different time, almost like a whole different world. He had been a fifteen-year-old filled with old beliefs, strong morals, and opinions. He became someone who others thought should have no say on what happens in the modern world. He was a teen in mourning for the next four years, even when he was fighting for what was right. He was a kid that had inspired many, but maybe he had inspired some kids in the wrong way. Maybe it was the teen hero’s fault other kids thought they could fight the fight too.

Fighting broke out between Bucky and Tony between a little simple combat session. Sam had tried to intervene between the two, but no matter what he did the fighting would not stop. It had been like this between the Avengers for days, little spars that started out just fine turned into full blown fights, like an enemy versus an enemy. The fight, however, was quickly put to a halt by Rikki Barnes, Nomad. While there wasn’t technically a leader to the Avengers, she was probably the closest thing to it. She tended to be the one the Avengers often took orders from, considering the fact she was probably the most frightening and authoritative of the team.

“Enough!” She had shouted, breaking up the two men. “No more fighting like animals. We are supposed to be a team. Whether the Accords or the Registrations Acts are a real deal or not you need to calm down and stop this! That goes for all of you. As of right now, it is just a rumor, so we fight and act like a team because that’s what we are. I don’t care anymore, you all tend to fight over the littlest things. If another fight starts again, I swear to god I’ll kill you all.” The redhead said, warning the older heroes. “Now, knock it off, stand up straight. We are the freaking Avengers. How will people look up to us if you are messing around and getting into fights all the time?” She yelled, shaking her head as she exited the room, leaving the men to stand alone.

Steve was still in his room moping over Peggy Carter, the love he had lost. He found himself wondering, like always, the things that could’ve been with the slightly older woman.  But when he had ‘died’ she had moved on, lived a life, met somebody else, grew old, had a family, and died happily, and peacefully. She had lived a life, a life without him, a life, and he got left behind in the ice. He hadn’t lived a life, and there was no chance at all for him to live one with her. There was never a chance for them, no chance at all, that was probably what was so great about them, the tragedy of it all, how they were doomed from the start. But it still hurt, it hurt when it officially came to the end, with not even the slightest bit of chance to regain.

Sam and Bucky, especially Bucky, had known Steve long enough to understand what he was doing. That he was taking the time to himself to mourn his losses again. He had been mourning for the past four years. The nineteen-year-old has been mourning the fact that he and Peggy would never be since the moment he had gotten out of the ice. It was time to move on and find someone new, he was still young and he didn’t deserve to live the rest of his life moping around and alone, mourning forever, and not getting an actual chance to live.

“You know, you gotta start living for once since you got out, kid.” Sam said entering Steve’s room with Bucky following behind him.

“Bird boy’s right Steve.” Bucky said sitting down on the bed beside him. “It’s been a while, and your life isn’t worth wasting on just mourning about her when you aren’t doing the whole superhero act. She would’ve wanted you to move on, and be happy, live an actual life besides the whole superhero lifestyle.” He said shaking his head.

“I don’t need to ‘live’ or move on. I need to mourn and mope. She was a big part of my life, I just need more time to get over her, and move on. I’m not ready to move on.” The teen said looking up at Sam, then turning his head to look over at Bucky.

“Steve, it’s been four years. Everyone has something bad happen to them, something rough to deal with, it’s not just you. You know that, stop moping and start living. You what had a silly little crush on her, you kissed her, planned a date, she was never your girl. She was a could have been. But it never happened. ” He stated, trying to knock some sense into him. “ You’re what, 19, technically 90 years old, and you haven’t lived a real day in your life. If you don’t start living you are going to regret it.” Bucky said standing up. “Listen to us, we are your best friends, who else would know what’s better for you than us?” He paused for a moment. “Let’s get out of here and live a little while we can.”

“Fine,” Steve said, standing and facing them. “But- I’m not promising I’ll be happy.”

“It’s better than nothing.” Sam commented to Bucky. He smiled softly over at Steve. “Come on let’s go live a little.” He said as they all walked out of the room.

“How ‘bout I strike a deal with you Zemo.” Fury said looking at the man in front of him. “I’ll give you what you want, you show us good behavior, rat out some of your villain accomplices and you can spend a little extra time with Agent 13, considering you can’t find a way to leave her be.”

“You know she hits pretty hard for a pretty little young thing.” He said with a smirk. “Go on, I’m interested. How much good behavior do I have to display in order for her to be considered mine?”

“Not enough.” Fury said looking at the man with his one good eye. “But I can make her duty to you. If you work with me enough. She isn’t the kind to choose love over duty, I trained her that way.” Fury looked up at the other agents in the room. He didn't quite train her that way, it was moral that Sharon set for herself. “Take him out of my sight for now… Oh and Zemo, I could possibly allow you to see her later tonight, you know if you cooperate enough.”

“Romanova!” Maria hill called interrupting the redhead’s sparring session with Clint Barton. The two separated and the redhead stood tall, as Clint Barton left the room, realizing it wasn’t his duty to be there. “Where is Agent Carter? You seem to know the teen best.” She said staring straight at Nat.

Natasha pushed some hair behind her head and out of her face as she looked at her girlfriend. “Of course I know where she is, She is practically my partner in crime.” She fixed her posture the slightest bit trying to stand up straighter, as she stared back at the higher ranked agent. Sharon had been assigned to her care after Fury had gained guardianship of the young Carter. “But what’s it to you to know where she is?” She asked, crossing her arms over themselves.

“Fury struck a deal with Baron Zemo, and she is involved in the crossfire. Fury is making her duty to be more or less involved with him within the next few years,” She said, raising her eyebrows at the woman's crossed arms. “She deserves the right to know about it. It’s her duty to get information whatever way she can, as one of our greatest trained agents, but if she can get to him, of all people, imagine the benefits for S.H.I.E.L.D.”

“Shouldn’t it be Sharon’s choice in all this? This is a little more than just duty,” Natasha said, raising her voice slightly to her superior. She knew Sharon. She was one of the few people she trusted. Nat was impressed with the girl. Nat had helped train her, more than any of the other agents, the teen was her friend, she was more than that, she was family. Despite the fact at hand of Sharon setting her morals to duty before love, she had the right to place her stubborn little opinion on the whole matter.

“My choice to what Nat?” Sharon asked as she walked into the combat room as she pulled her hair back into her hair tie. She smiled lightly at them. “Barton sent me in, said you guys wanted to talk to me? But by the looks of your faces, I’m gonna take a guess that he was eavesdropping again with his new hearing aids and you guys weren’t expecting to see me at this time.” She said as she noticed the two older women’s head’s turn immediately to her. “Well, now that I’m here, would you maybe tell me what you guys were gonna talk to me about anyway?”

Nat and Maria just stared at her for what felt like a few minutes, not quite sure what to start off with saying. It took another few minutes for one of them to convince themselves to speak before the silence broke. “How do you feel about Baron Zemo and him calling you his?” Maria asked.

Sharon raised her eyebrows as the question was asked but answered it as soon as she got the chance. “I hate his guts with a fiery passion and wouldn’t hesitate to break him in ways unknown to most if you ever let me near him again. Now, as of him calling me his, I’d do something extra painful, or at the very least three bullets in his chest.” She spat out as if it was something she was completely certain of. She eyed both the women as she crossed her arms and tilted her head ever so slightly at them. “Now, tell me what’s going on.”

Both women sighed to each other as they decided through slight nodding of heads on who would tell her what was going on. They both took a deep breath before the superior agent started to speak. “Fury made a deal with Zemo. If he shows good behavior Fury had promised you to him, stating that it would be your duty to spend time with that crazy head of his to get information for S.H.I.E.L.D.” She sighed. “Give it a chance at least, before you protest… At least at the signing of the Accords and the Registration Act. Fury is gonna have him there for a little bit so he knows you are worth the wait and the information he’ll have to give up.”

Sharon sighed. “I’ll give it a chance, only for my job, but not for me.” The teen stated, raising her voice. She was committed to her job but this? This had more to do than just her job.

“You know I heard over at S.H.I.E.L.D. HQ the governments of the world are going to have the first official signings of the Accords and Registration Acts,” Bucky said looking over at Sam and Steve. “It’s not just a rumor anymore.”

Sam raised his eyebrow at the metal-armed man. “Bucky? That’s still a rumor… because you heard a rumor about them actually being  there… a rumor about a rumor is still a rumor.”

Bucky frowned. “You said ‘rumor’ too many times for any of that to make sense.” He shook his head. “Let me continue what I was gonna say. We can go and crash the little get together since Tony is supposedly turning it into a little party after people have signed. Maybe make Steve a little less noticeable  if we go to it, and we have a party we can crash…” He suggested.

“That could get us into too much trouble, Buck.” Steve interrupted as they continued to walk through the streets of New York.

“Come on Steve, live a little… Trouble was something you used to always get into… You need to start to live again.” Bucky said. “You may be alive, but you sure as hell ain’t living kid.”

“Fine, but I’m not gonna do anything more there that could possibly get us into even more trouble.” Steve said.

“Now that’s the spirit,” Sam said. “Let’s go get you a little makeover for this party… Who knows maybe they’ll be some cute girls there for you.”

Sharon walked into the large conference room where everyone was assigned to go after the signing of the Sokovia Accords and the Superhero Registration Acts, for some superhero and agent mingling due to her ‘cousin's’ idea to throw some sort of party afterward. But it was more like villain and agent mingling for her, considering she’d have to spend a little bit of time with Baron Zemo.  Sharon’s eyes scanned across the room as more people started to fill the conference room. However, one person from stories and legends passed down from her Great Aunt had seemed to catch her attention. She quickly walked his way and pulled him from the crowd despite him not really knowing who she was. The young teen had known for certain, that this look-a-like didn’t sign the Accords or Registration Acts, and she knew what she was doing right now as technically against the acts and Accords rules but that didn’t matter at the moment.

“You look like a little more than just a familiar face.” She stated. “That’s not the best disguise for you. Your shoulder to waist ratio is easy to spot out in a crowd, not most people, teenagers, or superheroes look like that.” She looked him up and down as she muttered that to him.

Steve looked down at the young woman who had pulled him aside. There was something about her that was slightly familiar. Maybe her brown eyes and her cheekbones, or her slightly pale skin. But she sure was beautiful. He wasn’t paying any attention to what she had said, but he did notice her lips moving, “I’m sorry, what? Can you say that again?” He asked feeling like an idiot.

She rolled her eyes and pulled him a bit closer to her to whisper to him. “You look familiar… Like someone who isn’t on this side of things.” She whispered. There was something about him that made her easily trust him.

“Well, that doesn’t matter right now…” He paused trying to think back to the times he had seen Bucky and Sam flirt with girls, or with each other. “What matters is that we both seem free and we should take advantage of that.” He said smirking slightly at her as she let out a small scoff. He was horrible at flirting, something Sharon notices right away, but she decided to play along with it.

“Oh really?” A grin grew on her face. “I don’t think you can handle this.”  The teen said leaning towards him slightly.

“We’ll see about that.” He muttered before quickly bringing his lips to hers. He pulled away with a big smile. “I think we should try that again, I need to test that again. I’m not sure if I can handle you yet.”

“God, you are horrible at flirting.” She said with a small laugh and nodded her head before she brought her lips back to his. Her eyes widened as she quickly said goodbye to him breaking the kiss. She walked away realizing what she had done. She searched for Natasha finding her easier than she had hoped to. “Oh, please tell me, I didn’t just kiss who I think I did?”

Natasha nodded her head. “Oh, you kissed Captain America alright.” She smirked, “It’s about time you got together. I’ve been trying to set you up with him for at least two years, kid.” She smiled. “But you know great timing Shar.” Natasha walked a bit away from her heading towards Rogers. “Why don’t you get out of here, it’s not like you to kiss a stranger unless it’s for a mission’s sake… And you are definitely not on a mission to get some sort of information from him..” She muttered.

“Yeah, I know.” Sharon murmured under her breath as Natalia left, heading in the direction of the famous superhero.

“Rogers,” Nat said, tapping Steve on the shoulder. “You know who that is?” She nodded her head over to the blonde girl that was leaving. “That’s Agent 13, S.H.I.E.L.D.’s greatest spy. Pro-accords, Pro-registration.” She shook her head. “I see that look you give each other, that’s more than people who have just met. Seems you crazy kids are falling way too fast. That kiss, one would think that you’ve been together for years, that kiss, it was something… So Steve, how are you gonna punch your way out of this mess?”

The blonde teen sighed. “I don’t know Nat, but I need to see her again.”

Both blondes were left wondering what they were going to do from there. Feelings they were used to push behind walls, and layers of their lives were being brought out into their lives. They weren’t used to this and it scared them, they felt like they were being pulled in different directions.

Steve left the room once he noticed the blonde that he had kissed only moments before, had left the room. He followed behind her leaving his friends with the people who were on completely different sides of the conflict in their lives at the moment.

Sharon was, what seemed like, miles ahead of Rogers as she left HQ to head to her shared apartment. Her heart was racing as she walked, her mind completely on the troubles that would rise into bigger problems in her life. However, at the same time she couldn’t get her mind off her troubles she couldn’t get her mind of off him. She felt different with him, different than how she felt with everyone else. It was confusing her, how deeply she seemed to care about him, she would never have just fallen for someone, and she never put love over duty, but for some reason for him, she was willing to give up it all.

Steve was far behind her, far behind but he managed to catch up as he walked a bit faster. He stayed behind her, but not close enough for her to notice him following her. He stopped as he noticed her walk into an apartment building. He didn’t want to just go right up to her in the middle of her apartment building’s lobby. In his mind he could only see that causing a bit of a scene. So he waited outside looking for a light to go on in an apartment and shine through a window, hoping the window would end up being hers.

Sharon had unlocked the door to her apartment and turned on the light. Exhausted the teen went to sit by a window of her apartment to look down at the busy late night streets of the city, try to clear her mind of him and her problems.

As Steve looked through the windows he could see the lights go on, he stood there just long enough to see the young blonde sit by one of the windows. He looked across that building’s floor to see which window the fire escape went up to. He sighed as he walked towards the building and started to climb up the escape to her floor. Once he got to that window he knocked on it hoping she’d get up and let him talk to her, or at least let him in. “I need to speak with you Sharon, I need to see you again, there is just something, something about you… You’re not like anyone I’ve ever meet. Let me in and see you again, or at least let me talk with you…” He said trailing off.

Sharon was startled to hear a knock on one of her apartment windows, and she was surprised when she heard his voice. She walked over to her window and saw him on the other side of it. She shook her head. He was crazy, out of his mind, but he was there, he was thinking about her, similar to how she was thinking about him. She shook her head and opened the window, stepping aside, to allow the tall blonde teen in. She crossed her arms as he entered. “You’re crazy, you know that?”

“I’ve been told that many times… Sharon, I want to be with you.” He said getting straight to the point and looking up at her with hopeful eyes.

“You just met me, Steve, you hardly know me. We are on two completely different sides of a superhero war, and I’m not even supposed to be talking to certain people who have refused to sign the Accords and Registration Acts, it is against what I just signed.” She shook her head and sighed. “This,” She gestured between the two of them. “Is doomed to end in disaster. This is a risk to my life and my job.”

“Marry me then, let’s forget about the sides, the only side I’m on, is yours.”

“Did you not hear a word I just said?” She asked, shaking her head at him. She let out a disturbed laugh. “It’s not that simple, marriage, a relationship is not that simple. We just met. I’ll admit I felt some sort of connection too, but it’s too soon, we barely know each other! Well, I mean- I know you, from stories, but you-you hardly know me.” She shook her head.

“Then let me get to know you. We have hours until Stark’s party ends. I can learn a lot about you in a few hours, tell me more about you.” He pleaded almost convincing her he was worth the risk. But he lost her as soon as he brought up the marriage idea again. “And then tomorrow, we can get married.”

“This is the 1300’s or the 40’s, you dinosaur. Teenages don’t just get married this young, people don’t get married so quickly. And we were to get married so soon we are definitely far from Vegas… A few hours of knowing  each other is not stable enough for a healthy relationship.” She complained.

“If we get married it can help you get out of that stupid deal with Zemo.” Steve suggested. “And I really care about you, more than I cared about anyone ever before, I don’t want to lose you, I’ve lost so many people I love. If we get married, at least I get more time with you before I even get the chance to lose you.”

She ignored what he had said for his reasons for marrying her and was worried about how he knew about Zemo. “How the hell do you know about that?” She asked, raising her voice as she pushed him against the wall of her apartment. “I sure as hell didn’t let that slip in this conversation.” She shook her head before stepping away from Steve.

“I have my sources.” He said as the blonde raised a brow. He gave in telling her who his ‘source’ was. “It was Natasha. You seem to forget that she happens to be an Avenger and I happen to know her… She kind of owes me a few favors.”

Sharon sighed, rolling her eyes. “Of course…” She shook her head. “Okay, Rogers, I’ll agree to marriage and a relationship with you, you learn more about me, we try to forget about the Accords and the Registration Acts. We’ll get married tomorrow, you and I get a chance at happiness in this huge mess, and I get out of a horrible deal with Zemo.”

Over the next few hours, Steve and Sharon had gotten to know each other better, planning out what would happen the following day. Steve left as soon as Natasha had texted Sharon that she’d be coming back to the apartment.

Natasha walked into the apartment and called out to Sharon.  She waited for the teen to answer. Sharon was cleaning up some coffee mugs by the time had Steve left and Natasha had come back to the apartment and called for her. “Hey, Nat?” She asked as the redhead walked into the kitchen to join her. “I need you to do a favor or two for me and, uh, Steve.” She said, turning to face her best friend. She bit her lip gently before she explained the whole ordeal of what was going on between her and Steve.

As Sharon finished Natasha shook her head. “This is unlike you, Carter. He had just met you and you two plan on getting married tomorrow? Where is there any logic in that?”

“I care about him Nat… a lot. I’ve gotten to know him better the last few hours and he got to know me. I told him things I haven’t even told anyone. I feel like he’s the only person I really know...” She raised her shoulders a bit with a soft smile and sigh.

Nat shook her head again, interrupting. “You’re a teenager Carter, you’ve only been alive for eighteen years, you can’t make big decisions like that!” She said, arguing with her.

Sharon shook her head. “Eighteen is damn too old enough to make decisions. At eighteen anyone is a legal adult, at eighteen you are old enough to legally get married, at eighteen you can legally apply to serve this country, I am damn too old enough to make decisions on my own, and I damn old enough to get married. After my parents and Aunt Peggy died, Fury became my legal guardian, at fourteen. I’ve been training and working for S.H.I.E.L.D. since then. It became my job to do something most kids wouldn’t be able to do, but because he was the one who became my legal guardian I was able to start such a risky career at a young age. I wouldn’t have even been allowed to be in the academy until the end of this year… So I, of all eighteen-year-olds, can make my own decisions.” She sighed.

“Besides, this gets me out the Zemo problem.  If I marry Steve I can’t become a piece of Zemo’s property for the sake of S.H.I.E.L.D.” She said, shaking her head again. “ That alone she be a win. ”

Natasha sighed and took a minute to think about it all. “Okay, okay. I’ll help the two of you, but if you guys get yourself into some kind of trouble over this.” She shook her head. “I swear to god I erase every trace of myself ever helping the two of you.”

Early the next morning, Steve, Sharon and Nat met up with a friend of theirs is the hotel he had stayed in. T’challa, Black Panther, the highest priest of Wakanda, and the Wakandan King, was the only hero who had refused to choose some sort of side in the whole Accords and Registration Acts mess. T’challa was a medium in most things. He stood for high morals and was not one to give in to vengeance. He would probably be the only person to possibly consider marrying the two teens.

The Wakandan man had listened to the teens and Natasha as they begged for the man to consider marrying Steve and Sharon. “I stand in the middle of the two sides, that is well known. Both sides, too corrupt, in their own and special ways. Vengeance is there, tearing apart families and friends. They tore up couples like my wife and me, Reed Richards and Susan Storm, torn apart by two different sides, looked down upon when they tried to find a way to work things out. Maybe the love of the two of you can help destroy the vengeance surrounding them, and bring others back together.” The man paused looking at the two teens. “If you two are truly prepared for this commitment then I’ll agree to marry you. For the both of you, for the sake of everyone else in the crossfire of the government's mess, and especially you Ms. Carter. I’ll do this for you, to get you out of this predicament.” He said looking solely at Sharon.

She stood up and smiled down at T’challa, then she looked down at her future husband. “Then, I guess we are getting married.” She stated.

Sam and Bucky were in the Avenger’s tower training room getting ready to have a quick sparring session. As the two got ready to start they were interrupted by Tony entering. “You killed my parent’s Barnes! You think that would’ve been something important to tell me?” Tony said nearly shouting, causing the two men to move away from him. Tony had overheard the men when they crashed his party for the Accords and the Registration Acts. He overheard Barnes speak of the people he had been forced to kill for Hydra’s hand, when he had no control of himself. Tony’s parents were two of the many people on the list.

“Tony, you need to calm down, we don’t want this to lead to a fight… You know what Rikki said, what she’d do to us if she caught us fighting again, and you know she was fully serious about what she said.” Sam said, looking between Tony and his boyfriend as they had stepped closer to each other seeming as if this would lead to nothing good.

“He killed my mother!” Tony stated as he waited for his armor to fly to him. “I don’t care what the penalty may be to me when I give him what he deserves.” He said through gritted teeth.

Steve had entered the training room a little late for his planned spar session with Bucky and Sam. However, despite being late he arrived just in time for the matter at hand. He was quickly able to get in between them before Tony and Bucky actually got into the fight. If this were to go any farther they’d all be dead, and labeled criminals, and vigilantes throughout the tellings of history. Steve’s best friend would be dead, and Tony,  someone who was practically family to Steve’s, now, wife.

Sharon was close to Tony due to his father and her Great Aunt being close. Sharon had grown up close to Tony as if he was an older cousin to her. If something were to happen to him, it would be like Sharon lost another important person in her life, and Steve knew that she didn’t need to deal with that. “Tony don’t do this.” Steve said looking between him and his best friend.

“You knew and you didn’t tell me! You didn’t think that it was important to say that your best friend, who we were bringing onto this team, happened to kill my parents.” Stark said looking up at the tall teen who he used to think of as a friend. A kid he looked up to, someone who he thought was wise and stubborn. But all Tony had thought of him didn’t matter now, because of the Accords, the Registration Acts, and just recently, withholding information from him of who had actually killed his parents. Information that was very important to him. “He,” Tony pointed over at Bucky. “He deserves what’s coming.” He shook his head as his armor flew to him and collided with his body. He quickly raised his arm to shoot his repulsors at Bucky, to hurt him, or kill him, he didn’t care which.

Bucky went down instantly at the shot to his lower abdomen. His hands, both metal, and real had gone to his stomach where the gashing wound remaining was. Sam and Steve quickly rushed to his side as Tony stood still, shocked that he actually did that to his old teammate. The man’s pulse was fading, and even with his version of the super soldier serum, it was certain he wouldn’t have survived this.

Sam held his boyfriend in his arms. Brown eyes staring into blue. He shook his head. “Why’d you have to go and do that? Why’d you have to go and get hit. Don’t leave me Barnes, I swear James I will hate you for the rest of my life if you leave. ” Steve waited beside the both of them for a few minutes before the man’s pulse was completely gone.

The teen was on the verge of tears at the realization his best friend was gone. Steve quickly ran over to where his shield had lain in the weapons area of the training room and grabbed it. He quickly threw the patriotic disc at Tony. Not caring about anything but wanting to destroy the man who had killed the last living piece of his past. Sam just sat there besides Bucky as the two men had fought, he was in too much shock to do anything, but stayed there beside the dead metal-armed man, and not able stop Tony and Steve from getting themselves into even more trouble, he just held onto his dead boyfriend.

The fighting started to get worse as bruises formed, and closed cuts broke open and started to bleed, it was intense, the fight between the two. It had only gotten worse as the man in the suit of armor was pinned to the ground by the super soldier. Steve held the shield above his head, “I’m sorry Sharon…” He muttered quietly to himself as he shoved the shield down into Tony’s arc reactor, his heart, the thing that kept him living. He killed his old teammate instantly. Vengeance was a nasty cycle.

It had all gone too fast for him to truly absorb what happened. His actions didn’t completely weigh on him until after a few minutes of him just staring down at the dead man. He was shocked that he had killed and harmed the man he had once called a friend, and teammate, a man that had meant a lot to his wife. He was broken out of his shocked state when Sam spoke loudly. “Go! Don’t let them catch you, Steve.” He said, shaking his head as the young blonde man slowly stood up. “Go!” He yelled to make the point of his friend to hurry. With that, Steve ran from the training room and out the tower. He ran past the familiar buildings in New York until he searched for a place of safety.

Sharon was at HQ using one of the many punching bags. She was kicking and punching at it when Natasha had rushed into the room. “He’s dead.” Natasha muttered once the blonde stood still and turned to face her. “They are gone. They are both gone.”  Nat was never one to cry or show much emotion when it came to anything, but tears sure were flying doing her cheeks now.

Sharon’s brain had immediately gone to the man she had married only hours before. “Nat, who’s dead?” She asked now worried about her husband, trying to stay calm. She had been in love with him all her life. As a kid, she had grown to love the fifteen-year-old war hero from when her Great Aunt had passed down stories and tales of his adventures. Sharon had known of Steve her whole life, been in love with the young man in the stories for forever, and the thought of him being gone and never to come back frightened her. That he would be gone for the rest of eternity. She hoped deep down, god she hoped, that it was anyone but husband that was dead.

“Bucky and Tony… They are dead.” Natasha muttered. “Tony killed Bucky, and Steve killed Tony…” She shook her head trailing off as she wrapped her arms around Sharon as they sat down on the little bench by the punching bag.

The eighteen-year-old could feel the tears start to rush to her eyes as she let out a shaky breath. She shook her head as she started to mutter a ‘no’ in denial of what she had heard Nat say. “No…” She mumbled again, “This isn’t happening.” She said looking over at her as she let out a soft chuckle. The chuckle that happens when a person’s breaking point has been reached, and broken. She continued to cry as she spoke. “I refuse to believe that it has gotten this bad. I can’t believe Steve would kill him, let alone harm him after I have told him how much Tony had meant to me. And I can’t believe that he would kill him or even think of fighting him over such a stupid reason of the Registration Acts and the Accords…” She let out a sob before she started to try and calm herself.

“I killed Tony. I need to go into hiding. I’m a criminal. I need to leave Sharon... I need to explain myself to her. I need to do so many things.” Steve rushed out  his words as he looked over at the Wakandan man. He was freaking out, afraid to lose Sharon. “She’s gonna hate me, and I’ll never be able to see her again.” He said worried out of his mind.

“What you need to do is calm down,” T’challa said to the teen. “I will find a way to fix this whole mess for everyone, not just you, Captain Rogers. I know a place you can stay to lay low… You deal with that and I will fix the messes so all the vengeance, and hatred is gone, and everyone can go back to how things were, for the good of everyone.”

“Barnes dead, Stark dead, Rogers missing… Time is short in such conditions of a war.” Zemo said looking across the table and over at Fury with a smirk. “Before you know it, pretty little Carter is gone too, and if she’s gone, we have no deal. If she will do what’s right for S.H.I.E.L.D., for the sake of her job, if she will do her duty, you will allow her to become mine sooner rather than later. If I get her now, you can still get information out of me.”

Fury shook his head not very happy with the options Zemo was trying to give him. However, Fury needed that information from the man. “You have yourself a deal.”

It had taken a few minutes for Sharon to completely calm down.  “Tony used to be Steve’s friend, Steve wouldn’t have killed him if he didn’t have any other choice. If Steve didn’t kill Tony, Tony would’ve killed Steve…” She sighed. “At least Steve is still alive, for now... I mean, he doesn’t know a thing or two about going undercover, let alone being in hiding. He is gonna need some sort of help through all this… I need to find a way to help him…”

“Help who?” Maria asked interrupting the two spies as she entered the gym to inform them on the newly updated deal with Zemo. She shook it off and looked at them. “Nevermind. It’s not important. What is important is that you, Carter, know that you are assigned to get closer to Zemo for the sake of S.H.I.E.L.D.”

“Maria, you can’t make me do that.” She said standing up to face the brunette woman. “The man is utterly insane, and is over obsessed with me none-the-less!” She said, raising her voice. “ Nat, tell your girlfriend that she can’t make me! ”

Natasha stood frozen looking between the young woman and her girlfriend.

“The hell I can! I am your superior, you are my subordinate, I tell you what to do and when to do it! I have the authority to tell you your duty and your rank. So Agent 13 let me propose this, would you like to become agent 666? ‘Cause with this attitude that’s where you are heading.” Maria warned. “After all that has happened, we realized what’s important is the information from Zemo, which only you can get. That is what matters most.”

“I’m not going anywhere near that man, I don’t care that it’s my job or my duty, he is completely and utterly out of his mind!”

“You’ll do what we tell you to do Carter or you will lose your job.” The eye-patched man said as he entered the room. “I took you in, Carter, after your parent’s died, after your Aunt’s death. I trained you to become one of my best agents, and at such a young age. You have a lot of potential still in you, more room to grow for the many years of being an agent that I can so clearly see in your future. You will do this Carter, or that future will not be possible. You will find yourself out of a damn good job.” With that, the man quickly left leaving the three agents remaining alone,

“Hill, there has to be something you can do to change his mind.” The teen begged.

Natashsa pleaded along with the girl “ Maria… Please. ”

Maria shook her head over at the girl and muttered under her breath something along the lines of ‘It’s not my problem.’ Sharon sighed and turned to look at Natasha. “Please tell me something I can do?” She asked her.

The Russian woman shook her head. They wouldn’t budge. So she gave her young friend the best advice she could. “Do what they said… Information from him is something we need, and you need your job… It’s not worth the risk.”

Sharon shook her head. “That’s not a good enough answer.” She said, turning to leave.

“Where are you going?” Nat asked.

“To get an answer I like.” She said leaving.

Sharon walked to T’challa’s hotel. Unhappy with Natasha’s solution to the problem, she decided she would talk to him for at least some sort of advice to the problem at hand. She knocked on the door and was surprised to find that it was not the Wakandan man who had answered the door. The teen put on a forced smile trying to at least seem civil as she saw the man she despised. “Zemo.” She muttered through the forced grin as she nudged past him and ignored the glances from the S.H.I.E.L.D. agent’s that had to watch over the crazy man. The criminal had closed the door behind her as Zemo had watched her sit down on T’challa’s couch with a crooked grin.

T’challa smiled softly at her as she sat down. He understood the circumstances and how drastic things were getting, compared to how drastic things had been before Steve had killed Tony. “Sharon, it’s lovely to see you again.” He mumbled softly. “Zemo and your fellow S.H.I.E.L.D. agents were just about to leave.” He said as the agents started to push the deranged man out of the hotel room.

Sharon had waited for the door to close before she spoke. “ So, I suppose you know everything that is going on?” T’challa nodded his head at her, and she sighed. “I’ll ask why he was here later, but I need help because I have no idea what to do about, about any of this...” She trailed off as a single tear fell down her cheek. “This terrible situation just went from bad to completely worse. Please give me at least something, an idea, anything, where I won’t have to deal with him.”

T’challa sighed. “He was here because Fury wanted me to talk to the man whose heart was filled with such vengeance. I agreed because I wanted to see the man who was overly obsessed with you… He was more than overly obsessed in my opinion.” He had said shaking his head. “I don’t know what to do, I had offered your husband my safety to disappear, but you Ms. Carter, can’t just disappear with him.  I can offer you, someone, to talk to. It can be your remedy to this problem for a little while at least. Dr.  Faustus, he’s a psychiatrist, he can help you in a way. He can label you with anxiety, depression, PTSD and say Zemo is the cause, I wouldn’t doubt if you would suffer from all that, from all that with what he had done. Zemo seems to cause you real problems, you won’t have to see him again or deal with him… Fury has to put your mental health over the job, it’s more important. Dr. Faustus could also be someone else to talk about all this, about you and Steve.”

Sharon was silent for a few minutes before she had nodded her head agreeing. “Okay, when is the soonest I can meet with him?”

“Tomorrow.”

Sharon sat down on the couch in the strange room and waited for the psychiatrist to come in to start their session. She worried if this was the right idea, or if something horrible would happen because of this. She had never liked doctors, especially psychiatrists. As the door opened to the room she turned to the man sitting up straighter to face him with a soft, and slightly forced smile. The man had looked a little strange with his long beard and his glasses, but Sharon wasn’t one to judge, maybe it was just all her nerves that had made the man appear suspicious. Sharon offered him her head and shook his as he took hers. “It’s nice to meet you.” She mumbled before her vision had quickly faded to black.

Sharon’s consciousness seemed to regain with a few words from Dr. Faustus. “It was a lovely session, Sharon, I feel we made great progress. I’m sure I’ll be able to help you out of this Zemo ordeal and you can just relax and visit your husband, know that he is okay.” The blonde nodded her head as she stood up to leave, feeling a bit odd considering she couldn’t remember what had happened at their session.

The day before T’challa had told Sharon where Steve had been hiding out, so she must have brought that up. She couldn’t believe she would’ve  brought that up, but then again she couldn’t believe  she didn’t remember what she had said to him.  Before Sharon knew it her vision started to quickly fade to black again.

Sharon found herself standing in front of Steve, not sure when or how she got there, but she was there and that was all that mattered. Steve looked at her with a smile and he seemed happy. She smiled happily back and wrapped her arms around him tight. “I’ve been so worried.” She muttered holding him.

Steve nodded. “I know. I was worried too.” Husband and wife hugged each other tightly. “But it’s going to be okay. You are here now, we are both here and together.” Sharon nodded her head as she started to feel light headed again and everything went black again.

Sharon was confused to find herself leading her husband up the steps of the New York courthouse. Handcuffs were wrapped tightly around his hands and protesters surrounding the steps. It felt like her life was being pulled from her memory. It didn’t make much sense, she didn’t know what got her here, how she was here, she didn’t feel like she was in control of herself. She couldn’t remember what happened between her black-outs. But as she tried to focus on her memories, the agent forgot to focus on what was going on right now.

The next thing she heard were three loud gunshots. She looked down to find blood on her, as she noticed from the corner of her eye, Steve falling down onto the courthouse steps. She dropped down beside him having no idea that it was her gun who shot him. That felt like the only thing that made her feel in control. She could feel her breath catching in her throat and she could feel the tears fall down her face. “No. No, Steve, no.” She mumbled caressing his cheek softly as she could see the life start to slowly fade from his eyes.

Steve's hand covered over her’s as he slowly closed his eyes and murmured something to her. “Sharon…” He smiled with a shaky breath. “So beautiful… You take my breath away…” He said. Sharon laughed softly as tears fell down her cheek and everything went black once again.

She found herself sitting in the hospital when the facts of what she had done to her husband came to her, all the memories from the blackouts. She stared at the wall blankly and tuned out the sounds of the hospital.

Dr. Faustus had done something to her mind, he was there, in her head, and her actions weren’t completely her own. She couldn’t trust her own head, he was a bad idea. She had ratted Steve out because of it, she had shot her husband, it was all her fault. He was dead because of her.

Natasha had found her way to Sharon in the hospital and it took her a minute or two to get the blonde to notice her. She sighed sitting next to Sharon and wrapping her arms around her tightly. “At least it was him and not you that is gone. I don’t think I could deal with losing you.” The Russian mumbled.

Sharon shook her head at the older woman. “Don’t you see, I wish I was the one dead instead of him, I’m dead inside…” There was so much she wanted to say. She wanted to admit what she had done. She had killed Captain America, the man she loved. Nothing could take that pain away. But it was so much worse that something was keeping her away from admitting it all.

It took a week after Steve’s death for both the Accords and the Registration Acts to be canceled, all the extra damage from it all, wasn’t worth it. S.H.I.E.L.D. and the governments of the world, alongside other agents and superheroes who had once fought alongside Steve and Sharon, had put in money to start building a statue of Captain America in Brooklyn in Steve’s honor, and for Sharon’s sake. The story of the two of them and the heroes who had died this mess had made it all come to an end, but not everything was fixed. There were still broken bonds between friends and family, but everything was closer to how it had used to be.

Once the statue was built Sharon visited it every day. She would cry every now and again in front of it, early in the morning, when no one else was there. It had become her private spot. She would continue on with her morning jog after being there for at least an hour. Each time she was there she made a promise to herself that she would see him again, and she made a promise to him that she would find a way to bring him back, for him and the child that he unknowingly left behind.
