Work Text:

Steve looked over to the clock and rolled his eyes. Seriously? Eddie was supposed to be home an hour ago!
It was already 1 AM and Steve had plans with Robin for tomorrow.
He shouldn’t even be worried, his boyfriend just wanted to go out and have fun …but it's hard.
What if something had happened? What if he got lost or someone hurt him? God knows enough people wanted to do that.

Even though his name had been cleared, Eddie was different from everyone else.
Still boisterous and nonconforming to society. He claimed the attention of everyone in the room by just existing.
He listened to loud music and had long hair. People don’t like what they don’t know, and they don't know Eddie. At least, not like Steve does.

Before Steve could worry too much there was a soft click as the door opened. Steve looked over as Eddie entered. He was okay, he didn't look hurt or scared just..drunk.

The other man fumbled around for a bit before finding his footing and meeting Steve's gaze.

They just stared at each other. Neither man said anything. Eddie opened his mouth before shutting it again.
Steve pulled the blankets off of himself and got out of bed, moving to the dresser. Eddie looked sheepish, but Steve didn’t really care.
If Eddie can make him worry then the least he can do is look guilty.

He pulled out the pajamas and carefully set them in Eddie's arms, he pointed to the bathroom before getting back in bed.
Steve thought he heard Eddie trip and curse as he closed the door to the bathroom, but it could've been his imagination.

A couple of sounds were heard before Eddie reemerged, dressed and looking better than he did a couple of minutes ago.

He just stood in the doorway, staring at Steve, Steve stared back.

Steve quickly got bored of the silence, so he pulled the covers back and gestured to the empty side, “So, Munson …are you getting in or what?”

Eddie looked confused for a moment before eyeing Steve wearily, “You’re cute and all” he said as he backed away towards the door “but I have a boyfriend.” Before Steve could say anything in response, Eddie was out of the room and down the hall.

Steve threw his head back and groaned as he got up and out of bed again.

He walked out into the hall only to find no trace of Eddie. He walked further into the apartment and saw a mop of dark curly hair, peeking out from a blanket on the sofa.

He sighed lightly while walking to the kitchen and grabbing a glass from the cabinet. Eddie really did need to be more careful. He filled a cup with water and grabbed an anti-nausea pill before making his way back to Eddie.

He sat the glass and pill on the table, and started to take care of Eddie’s ‘sleeping situation’. He tucked him into bed, gave him a kiss on the forehead and walked to their bedroom.

He woke up the next morning to an empty bed and the smell of food. Slightly confused, he got up, stretched and left the room.

Eddie, still in his pajamas from last night, was focused on the pancakes. He was in his own world - it was cute. He didn’t notice when Steve walked in. Steve sleepily wrapped his arms around his waist. Immediately, he jumped “Jesus H. Christ Harrington! Give a guy a warning, won’t ya?”

Eddie turned and jabbed the spatula into Steve's chest quickly, but he had a shy smile on his face so Steve just let him be.

“Goodmorning, Eds” He said before he kissed him on the cheek, “thank you for making breakfast.”

Eddie smiled at Steve before turning around again and continuing his earlier task,
“I’m sorry that I came home late last night, I lost track of time, I didn’t mean to worry you.” Steve frowned, “Oh, and Thanks for leaving water by the table, I felt like shit this morning.”

Steve sighed and rubbed his face, “It’s fine, Eddie. It’s fine. Just …try and let me know next time, okay? It's great that you're going out and having fun. I was just worried about you.”

Eddie sat the spatula down and turned around, “I’m sorry.” he pulled Steve in for a light kiss, holding his face in his hands, “I never want to make you worried, you know that. Is there anything I can do to make it up to you?”

Steve thought for a second before coming up with an idea "Well …there may be one thing…”

And that’s how Eddie ended up spending most of his time during the day with Steve and Robin, though he couldn't complain. Those dorks are his family and he loves them with all his heart.
