Work Text:

It was like any other day as a journalist. Gathering data, writing, trying to contact people for interviews, all basic run of the mill journalist work. Andrew was one of the head writers for his company. He has a few secrets he needs to keep, one of them being very, VERY embarrassing.

His huge crush on the rising star superhero of the city, Valor.

Oh how his heart stopped when he was told that he was going to interview Valor.

“So this is the place, huh?” The superhero remarked.

Andrew swallowed, trying to calm himself down, so as to not make the other figure uncomfortable. “S-Shall we begin…?” He said, nervously fidgeting with the smooth stone in his pocket.

They both sat at the table, opposite of each other, Andrew pulled out a recorder and pressed the record button.

“June 18th, 20XX.”

“Fancy gadget you got there, Andrew, was it?”

The way his heart swelled when Valor said his name.

“T-That's correct, uhm, Valor.”

It laughed. “You're more nervous for this interview than I am!”

Andrew cleared his throat. “I deeply a-apologize for my improper behavior. I just..you don't get to meet with one of y-your idols everyday.”

“Oho! You're a fan?”

He just realized what slipped out of his mouth. “A-Ah well I just…I-I um….” He sighed and looked down, embarrassed. “Yes…”

“Well it's always nice to see my fans! I really enjoy meeting them all! They're all so sweet and kind!!”

He looked at the recorder and remembered the questions he wanted to ask. “Sky, cut all of this out, thanks.” Andrew said to the recorder.
“Now let's actually get started.”

“Oh! Of course!” The hero cheerfully smiled at the reporter.

“First question: Why did you want to become a superhero?”

“I strongly believe in justice, call it cliché, but I want everyone to be happy and safe from all harm.”

“Hm, good answer. Second question: What is your relationship with your fellow superheroes Sourpunch and Sweetpop?”

“We’re all friends! I trust them with my life, figuratively and literally! They're my closest friends in costume and as civilians! Ah! I-I didn't mean to say that last bit..hehe…”

“Will you ever reveal your identity to the public?”

“P-Personal question.. but no. I can't reveal my identity for my safety.”

Andrew's eyes went wide, asking for his identity? Are you insane? “I-I apologize sincerely V-Valor I got a bit..carried away.” He looked at the recorder. “Cut this out as well Sky.”

“It's fine! Really! I understand that people are dying to know who I am underneath this mask, but for your safety and mine, I have to conceal my identity.”

“I understand. Once again I-I’m so sorry.”

He cleared his throat.

“Now for the questions people have been dying to know. Valor, how old are you?”

“Twenty-four years young, baby!” He winked.

Andrew’s face flushed. “N-Next question.”
He stammered. “A-Are you..single?”

Their eyes met, both filled with confusion, embarrassment, fear, and desire.

“W-Well ah…yes! I-I am single!” The hero's face flushed, and he looked away from the reporter, avoiding his gaze.

“S-Sorry for such personal questions but my m-manager asked me to…ask you such invasive things… Sky, cut this out as well.” He also looked elsewhere feeling the strange tension rise.

They sat in silence, nervously glancing at each other every so often. Andrew was the first the break the silence.

The faux ginger regained his composure. “Next question.”

And the interview continued for a while before coming to an end.

“T-Thank you once again for agreeing to this interview, Valor, my company - and to an extent - myself, will greatly cherish this information.” The taller, shyer man fiddled with his fingers, avoiding eye contact with the hero opposite of him.

“You're very welcome my dear civilian! It is my honor to protect and serve the people of my town!” The hero smiled proudly, before speaking again. “Now, it's quite late out, I shall be heading home now.”

“A-Ah! Right.. Well I hope you have a wonderful night, V-Valor.” The towering man’s glistening grey eyes finally looked at the smaller figure.

Valor smiled, then opened a window before winking and leaving the lone man in silence. Now with a moment of respite to himself, he thought over the interview again.

“A-Are you..single?”

Andrew’s pale face flushed a bright red, a mortified look covering it.

“ARE YOU KIDDING ME ANDREW? ASKING HIM OUT?!” The man popped the side of his head with his clenched fist in an embarrassed rage. “There's something very wrong with you.” He sat down on the couch present before gaining his composure again. “I better get a raise for all of this…” Still under his anger, his heart couldn't help but flutter.

Maybe one day he would truly know who Valor was.
