“so, Eg8ert, how do i look?”
John hadn’t seemed to notice Vriska coming out of the dressing room, but the sight before him was worth the surprise. in a slim, sparkly blue dress before him, was the one and only Vriska Serket. somehow, he had managed to coerce the queen of tomboys into going in a dress for Rose and Kanaya’s wedding. well, he did have some help from Kanaya as well.
John must not have realized how quiet he had been, staring in awe at the dress, because Vriska broke the silence. “are you just going to look, or?” she demanded, her wavering voice breaking John’s train of thought. “oh, yeah! yeah! it looks really nice!” he complimented, nodding in agreement to his own statement. “i know that it wasn’t in the set that Rose and Kanaya chose for us, 8ut can i wear a jacket?” she asked, her arms crossed across her waist, trying to make herself seem smaller. “why? you look great right now.” John questioned, before stopping himself.
“is it because of your…yknow?” he asked, lowering his voice and pointing at his back. Vriska stared at the space next to John as she slowly nodded her head. “oh, you could’ve just said that from the beginning.” John huffed, a weary smile on his face. despite them having been in a matespritship for…quite a while, Vriska still had trouble expressing her emotions around John. especially the parts of herself she preferred to hide, and not let others know she despised. “i think it suits you, Vris!” he added, trying to lighten his girlfriends mood. she rolled her eyes and sighed, responding “i know you’re just saying that to make me feel 8etter, John. even a wriggler could figure that out…”
“no, i’m not, Vriska.” he replied. a pale blue blush creeped over her cheeks. she liked it when John said her name, but she’d never admit it. “if you really think so…” she trailed on, turning around to get a full scope of her back in the mirror. the gnarled gash where Terezi had stabbed her years prior still sat on her mid back, a grim reminder of her mistakes.
before she could stop him, John had walked over and wrapped his arms around her waist. “it’s okay, Vris. really. the more you get used to showing it, the easier it’ll get.” he reassured her, running his hands down her back. “alright, alright, now quit 8eing all sentimental.” Vriska jokingly replied, pulling him closer into their hug.
