“I’m cold.” Gahyeon said out of nowhere, making Siyeon look at her girlfriend and taking away her attention from the show she was watching. It was something about koalas and it reminded her of a certain memory about her and Gahyeon (and it always makes her happy whenever she would think of it).
It’s winter already and even if all of their windows are shut, all aircons are off, their thickest clothes are worn, it is still very cold.
“Want me to open the heater?” Siyeon asked, about to stand up from the couch.
“No.” Siyeon furrowed her eyebrows.
“Do you want to wear one of my hoodies? One more?” Gahyeon shook her head. She was already wearing one of Siyeon’s hoodies and one jacket, which was also from Siyeon, but it still wasn’t enough. She looks so cute in her oversized hoodie, making her look smaller. Siyeon stood up and walked towards Gahyeon.
“What do you want, baby? Should I make hot chocolate?” Gahyeon wrapped her arms around Siyeon’s body and put her weight on the older woman. Siyeon almost fell but we’re not gonna talk about that.
“Cuddle me.” Siyeon sighed, followed by a small smile because her girlfriend is just so cute, and dragged Gahyeon towards the sofa. Siyeon pulled Gahyeon closer by her waist and she let them fall down on the sofa, filling fits of giggles and laughter in their apartment.
“Better?” Gahyeon hummed in relief and snuggled herself more into Siyeon, as if there were more space between them. Siyeon stretched her arm to get the remote on the coffee table, and continued to watch while her hands were resting on Gahyeon’s back.
Soon enough, Siyeon could hear little snores from her girlfriend. She could feel her eyes getting heavy so she decided to turn off the tv and get some sleep as well. She’s been actually feeling sleepy ever since a while ago, but she had to make sure that Gahyeon was sleeping well. The younger woman can’t sleep well on winter days so she stayed awake for a few hours more, patting her girlfriend’s back lightly in comfort.
She’s sure that Gahyeon is drooling all over her shirt right now but she doesn’t mind. After all, she loves Gahyeon so much that she’s willing to miss a few hours of sleep, get crushed under the weight of her girlfriend, and sleep uncomfortably on the sofa instead of their soft bed, as long as she’s seeing that cute nose wrinkles that Gahyeon does in her sleep, with her lips slightly parted, and even sometimes, sleep talking which makes Siyeon giggle.

“Singnie…” Gahyeon said while she was sitting on Siyeon’s lap. The older woman got startled awake, automatically calming down when she saw her girlfriend’s face.
“Yes, Gahyeonnie?” Siyeon sat up with a little bit of struggling and wrapped her arms around her girlfriend’s waist, resting her head on her shoulder. She still feels a bit sleepy and Gahyeon feels so comfy and warm.
“Can we go out?” Siyeon tilted her head to look at the window and it started snowing. She sighed, it’ll be super cold and she actually hates it. But Gahyeon is asking her with those damn puppy eyes so how can she say no?
“Of course. Come on, let’s get dressed.” Gahyeon stood up happily from Siyeon’s lap and grabbed Siyeon’s hand to pull her in their dresser. Seeing Gahyeon so happy makes Siyeon’s heart feel light so she happily followed Gahyeon as well.
Gahyeon chose clothes for both of them. Her girlfriend is surprisingly good at styling her so she just let her be.
“I want to wear this with you.” Gahyeon brought out the padded jackets that Bora and Handong gifted them for their anniversary. Siyeon nodded because they finally get to wear it.
After wearing the clothes, they both checked themselves in the mirror and even took a few pictures to send to their friends.
“We look so cute!” Gahyeon said while looking at the pictures. Siyeon smiled but a part of her felt like they were forgetting something.
As they were about to wear their boots, Siyeon said, “Wait.” She went back to their dresser and grabbed two scarves. She wrapped one around Gahyeon’s neck, tucking it in the pockets of the padded jacket.
“Good?” Gahyeon didn’t answer. Instead, she opted to do the same for Siyeon, putting it on her neck but instead of wrapping it around, she pulled it down so she could kiss Siyeon. Her arms found its way around Siyeon’s neck to kiss her more. Siyeon always feels like home, her kisses are always warm and soft, and she likes it when she encases her in her arms because Siyeon is taller than her.
“Better.” Gahyeon said breathlessly against Siyeon’s lips. The older woman wore her own boots and took Gahyeon’s gloved hand in hers.
They got out of the building, and the first thing that Gahyeon did is to run.
She looks so beautiful, Siyeon thinks. The way the snow falls and her girlfriend being surrounded by it, Siyeon thinks if there’s a way to stop time because she wants to capture this moment. This stands second place in ‘Siyeon’s most beautiful moments of Gahyeon’ because her bare face is always first and nothing could top that, as Gahyeon comes out of the bathroom with a towel wrapped around her neck, all makeup removed, the tips of her hair soaked, and with that smile that is still there even if Siyeon kisses her.
But soon enough, Siyeon watched her girlfriend trip, with her face first, and emerged with a pout on her face. Siyeon approached her while laughing as she helped Gahyeon up.
“Come here, silly.” Siyeon pulled her close to fix her beanie. She took out two how packs from her pockets and placed it in Gahyeon’s cheeks. Siyeon placed a kiss on Gahyeon’s lips, happy that she has Gahyeon in her life and she doesn’t mind taking care of a dork in the form of her girlfriend.
When Gahyeon was warm enough, she told Siyeon, “Come on, Si. Let’s dance.” Gahyeon pulled Siyeon and twirled her around, They were having so much fun, with laughs and breathless breaths filling the quiet winter night, and dancing till they felt tired.
This was one of Gahyeon’s fantasies. She watched this in one of the kdramas she’s tuning in to, and she immediately thought that she want to do this with her girlfriend too. Siyeon just looks so stunning. When she first met her, she never thought that she would be her girlfriend who loves cuddles and kisses as much as she does.
So she does kiss Siyeon a lot because she’s just so adorable and Gahyeon is attracted to her in all possible ways. And of course, Siyeon always reciprocates it because it warms her, warms her in ways the hot packs in her hands and the heater in their apartment could never do.
With a few more dances and snowball fights, in which Gahyeon got competitive, Siyeon suggested to Gahyeon that they should go home now. “It’s getting colder, Gahyeon. We should go back in. I don’t want you to get sick.” Gahyeon agreed, still holding hands with Siyeon and walking happily as they went back in.
Once they were at the warmth of their home, Gahyeon ran to their bedroom to get the warmest clothes she could find for Siyeon. She forgot to prepare their clothes and she cannot let her girlfriend be in cold clothes.
“Singnie, here. Go change first.” Gahyeon handed her the clothes with a proud smile on her face.
“How about you, Hyeonnie? Come on, change with me.” Gahyeon shook her head, firm with her decision.
“Just go already! I’ll change right after you. Promise.” Siyeon hesitantly walked to their bedroom to change, often looking back at Gahyeon, who was already removing her padded jacket.
Siyeon changed quickly and got clothes for Gahyeon as well, just to see her making warm drinks for them. “I heated it while you were changing your clothes before we left earlier. I just put it in the thermos to keep it warm so we can have hot chocolates as soon as we get back!” Gahyeon said enthusiastically while stirring the hot chocolates.
Siyeon’s heart warmed and surged forward to kiss Gahyeon again. She’s just so lucky to have Gahyeon in her life and she wants to show how much she’s grateful for her. Sometimes, insecurity comes to her mind whenever she would see the people surrounding Gahyeon, the better and the more. But her girlfriend is good at washing away the devil in her mind, and ensuring her that she’s enough.
“What was that for?” Gahyeon asked while their faces were still inches apart. Siyeon smiled and placed one of kiss at her girlfriend’s lips.
“Nothing. I just like you so much.” Gahyeon smirked and got the clothes in Siyeon’s hands.
“Only like? But I love you though?” Siyeon groaned as she grabbed the cups of hot chocolate on the countertop.
“You know what I mean.” Gahyeon hugged Siyeon from the back, almost making the hot chocolates spill because of the impact, and they waddled towards their living room to watch something (which will eventually become a background noise because they’re more interested in having conversation with each other.).
“Let me go and change.” Gahyeon happily skipped towards their bedroom to change, leaving a giggling Siyeon on the couch.
As soon as they get settled, all in warm clothes, Gahyeon was already clinging onto Siyeon’s side with the hot chocolate in her hand.
“You’re like a koala, you know. I was watching them earlier and you look like one right now.” Siyeon suddenly said that broke the silence between the two of them.
“But I’m your koala. And don’t act like you don’t like it.” Gahyeon opened her eyes wide because maybe, “Unless you don’t?” Siyeon clank their mugs together, as if to remind Gahyeon that of course,
“You know that I love it. I love everything you do. As long as I’m your koala too, then I don’t mind you being mine.” Gahyeon rested her head on Siyeon’s shoulder and sighed in content. Sure, she doesn’t like the cold weather that much but if Siyeon is there to warm her, then maybe, the cold winter nights aren’t that bad.
And it’s better because it’s Siyeon, the person she came to know and like that one winter night at the zoo, in front of the koalas that were hunched while sleeping because Gahyeon accidentally bumped into Siyeon while the woman was taking pictures of the sleeping figures, the one who gave her an extra hot pocket to keep her warm, the one who gave her number before Gahyeon gets off the train, and the one who she never expected to have a place where they call home.
Home equates to Siyeon, and warm equates to Gahyeon.
And it’s so easy to survive winter nights when you have someone who can make you feel safe and warm.
