Work Text:

The day had started out with a semblance of normality. Of course, the usual bullying happened for Andre and Cal, but it was just any other day. After school, Cal had invited Andre over to hangout since neither of them had anything better to do. That was where things got a little weird.

Andre leaned over Cal's shoulder to look at his computer screen. With his built-in "Andre Detector", the blond looked over at him.

"Yes, Mr. Kriegman?"

"Cal, what the fuck are you playing??" Just as he said that the sound of a gunshot was heard from Cal's computer.

The blond's eyes lit up. He dragged the brune closer to the screen, pausing his game. "Look! Okay, so you know the Columbine Highschool shooting?"

A flash of concern briefly shown on Andre's face. "...yes? Should I be worried?"

"No, it's fine! About a year ago a game came out on RPGmaker about it called "Super Columbine Massacre RPG!" and I started playing it a couple of days ago. It's really cool!"

Andre threw his hands up defensively. "Hey, man, if you're gonna shoot up our school, at least spare me." The remark landed him a light smack on the arm.

"That's not what I meant!! I just think the game is fun to play. Besides, why would I plan to shoot up our school and tell you about it?"

"'cause I'm your beeeeeest friend and you'd want me to stay home the day of the massacre."

"What makes you think I would tell you instead of Rachel?" Cal asked with a wide smirk. Andre's smile turned into a scowl.

"You motherfucker! Tell me the date, damnit!"

The blond looked at his calendar on the wall. "Today isssssss....April 30th, 2002." Andre shook him a little more, looking at him with flashing eyes. "Andre. Andre, Andre, Andre. You know that I wouldn't do that by myself."

"By yourself? You mean you'd do it if someone did it with you?"

Cal squinted at him like he was a speck on the wall. "Are you sure you're not a government agent trying to figure out the next big school shooting?"

They stared at each other for a few seconds. And then a couple more. A second more. And finally Cal continued. "I mean, I might if it wasn't just me, but all of my friends are exceptionally normal."

"Except for me."

"Except for you." Another few seconds passed. "Does this imply that you'd wanna shoot up our school with me?"

The brune shrugged. "Maybe. I don't know, I might sleep on it, but I'll get back to you if you're really serious about it."

"Okay! ...wait, what???"

"...you were serious, right?"

"I don't know! Kind of. But not entirely."

"So I can still get back to you with an answer?"

"Sure."

And that was that. For now.

One week later, Cal was called by Andre.

"Hello?"

"Cal."

"Yes?"

"Are you still...y'know?"

"What."

"The thing we talked about a week ago."

"Andre, we talk everyday. I don't know what you mean."

"The, um, the massacre. Thing. The massacre thing that we talked about."

Cal's eyebrows must've shot up off his face and into the sky (that, or his hair was too light to know if he had eyebrows or not) since a look of surprise was on it. "Oh, uh, yeah. Yeah, I'm still down to do it. Why, did you wanna join me?"

A moment of silence passed before Andre cleared his throat and answered. "As long as you're serious, then yeah, I do."

"Cool. I can come pick you up in about 10 minutes to talk to you about it. If you're not busy, that is?"

"No, no, I'm free to hang. I'll see you then."

"See ya."

And thus, the next Columbine was in it's beginning stages of planning.
