Chapter Text
Third Person POV
"Tadashi, we need to break up." Tsukishima said. They were in his backyard helping Yamaguchi with his jump serves. Yamaguchi dropped the ball. "What?" he asked as his eyes welled up with tears. Tsukishima took a deep breath. "I said, we need to break up, Yamaguchi. I'm not feeling it anymore." Hearing his last name from his boyfriend hurt.
It was silent for a bit until Yamaguchi cleared his throat. "Well, I should get going. It's getting late and I have homework." Tsukishima nodded his head and Yamaguchi made his way out through the side gate, neither one of them looking each other in the eye.
As soon as he was out of view, Yamaguchi ran for his house tears pouring out of his eyes. He didn't expect his Christmas break to start like this. At least he only had one more day until he was free from school and volleyball. Coach Ukai decided to give them Christmas break to rest so, he wouldn't have to see Tsukishima for 2 weeks.
Once he got home, no one was awake. He quietly went up into his room and flopped on to his bed. It took him a bit but, he eventually cried himself to sleep.
Yamaguchi POV
I woke up and looked at my clock, '6:15' it read. Crap, I would be late to morning practice if I don't leave now. I quickly got dressed and grabbed a piece of toast before running to the door. Once I opened the door, I saw Tsukki standing there. Everything came rushing back, I quickly averted my eyes and followed him after locking the door.
He had his headphones on his ears. I wanted to hold his hand but, I had to fight that urge. Instead I plug my earbuds into my phone and listen to my own music shoving both of my hands into my pockets. The walk to school was a long and awkward one but it gave me time to think and try to understand why he decided to break up with me. Once we got to the club room I quickly changed into my practice clothes and rushed out so I didn't have to spend anymore time alone with him.

The day went by in a blur and the next thing I know, the whole team is sitting in front of Coach and Takeda-Sensei. "Okay, today is the last day of practice but we only give you a week break instead since we still have Spring Nationals to prepare for. So take this time to heal your bodies and mentally prepare yourself." Takeda-Sensei said. And with that we all went back to the club room to change back into our school clothes and head home. "See you in a week Yama!" Hinata said waving while clinging on to Kageyama. I hid the pain in my eyes with a smile and waved back, "See you Hinata!"
Tsukki still walked home with me. It was silent and awkward, just like how it was on the way to school. We got to my house, I turned to him before walking in. "Bye Kei." I said. I could see him cringe at that. 'Oh right,' I thought. "We aren't together anymore Yamaguchi." I grimaced at that. "It's Tsukishima." I nodded my head. "Right, bye Tsukishima." "See ya." He turned around and left. I couldn't hold the tears in anymore. I couldn't call him Kei anymore.
We really were done.
