Memories of a Nobody

Summary:

It was quite unfortunate that Kim Dokja wasn’t a human being. He’d been called a myriad of different names, all alluding to his absolute non-existence.

Monster. Uncaring. Should-have.

But they hurt even less than what he truly was.

A Nobody.

A body without a heart.

Doomed to wander the Worlds, aimless and unfeeling.

Notes:

disclaimer: This has a lot of lore regarding kingdom hearts, and takes heavy inspo in the game 358/2 days. It CAN be read as its own thing, though! I did my best to explain what each piece of info you'll need - but KH isn't exactly known for an easy-to-explain lore 😅 Good Luck guys.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

It was quite unfortunate that Kim Dokja wasn’t a human being. He’d been called a myriad of different names, all alluding to his absolute non-existence.

Monster. Uncaring. Should-have.

But they hurt even less than what he truly was.

A Nobody.

A body without a heart.

Doomed to wander the Worlds, aimless and unfeeling.

Well, aimless wasn’t quite the word, was it?

After all, he did have to avoid one thing.

Keyblade masters. One, in particular, came to mind. The sight of black hair and empty eyes was enough to make him shiver in fear. He’d rather not remember her. It was easier to simply lay low in one of the words, blending in with the background. Not existing, to avoid, well – what a human could consider dying.

He hated Keyblade masters. Hated the giant keys that swung around like swords, hated the bright light they emitted, and worst of all, he hated how they chased him around.

If asked, Kim Dokja would rather stay hidden. A few Heartless by his side to protect him (The little things were adorable. Unlike the Emblem Heartless that could only cause chaos as they went, plain Heartless’ were docile. They would cuddle near Kim Dokja’s chest. Perhaps searching the warmth of a body, or trying to return to the body they had been separated from. Whichever the reason, they were good companions).

He’d grown used to that life. He’d wander through worlds, and aside from the few encounter he had with that weird ‘company’, Kim Dokja hadn’t met that many Keyblade wielders. It was always a battle where he had to run for his life, so he wasn’t a fan.

That’s why, finding a Keyblade master on the side of the road was, quite strange.

Twilight Town wasn’t one to usually meet new faces. Kim Dokja could recognize each of the one from the citizens, and even name a few if pushed. Plus, it wasn’t like it was the epicenter of a war or a keyhole was opened.

All in all, Twilight Town was…peaceful. Kim Dokja made sure most Heartless and Nobodies were kept at bay and didn’t attack the locals. Not that there were many of them to begin with.

Why would a Keyblade Master be here?

He kneeled to see the man closely. The Heartless in his arms was squirming. Tiny hands reached out to touch the man’s face, but Kim Dokja gently pushed them back.

“Don’t touch him, Biyoo,” he said. “You don’t know where he’s been”.

At the sound of a voice, the man’s eyes began to tremble. Kim Dokja sighed.

“Sir?” he called. “Sir? You’re obstructing the way. The kids can’t get to the train with you here”.

Still no answer.

Usually, mind you, Kim Dokja would be careful. Especially near a keyblade master, who could easily defeat him and cease his non-existence. But as he stared at the man lying motionless in the ground, something surged inside Kim Dokja. An unexplained feeling that grabbed at something inside him (if he were human, he would say at his heart. But no. He wasn’t human. He was a Nobody. He didn’t have a heart).

Before he knew it, he slapped the back of the man’s head with his hand.

The man opened his eyes in an instant. His glare gave Kim Dokja shivers and he instinctively knew what to do.

He ran and didn’t look back.

His name turned out to be Yoo Joonghyuk.

A young genius Keyblade master. Apparently, the reason why he was in Twilight Town was entirely an accident. A mad scientist was opening gateways to other worlds, disrupting the world order and causing chaos as they filled the worlds with Heartless to open a gate to Kingdom Hearts.

During an attack on Corona, Yoo Joonghyuk got seriously injured. Trying to escape between words, he got attacked and ended up falling to Twilight Town.

The reason why Kim Dokja knew so much?

Well, he’d been following the man ever since.

A dangerous endeavour, really. He ran the risk of getting spotted, not only by Yoo Jonghyuk but any other Keyblade Wielder that he interacted with.

He was lucky that Yoo Joonghyuk seemed to be so antisocial no other Keyblade master wanted to hang around him.

Despite the dangers, Kim Dokja continued to trail him. He was, quite an interesting person. Always fighting against countless Heartless and winning. Always on the brink of perishing, yet able to pull through no matter what. He was like the main character of a story, and Kim Dokja just couldn’t resist watching him.

And just like that, he got careless.

Biyoo escaped from his arms and ran. Scared, Kim Dokja followed her, just to find Yoo Jonghyuk pointing his Keyblade at her. His eyes widened.

“Stop! Don’t hurt her!” Kim Dokja quickly used his body to protect the little Heartless. She was trembling in his arms. He couldn’t blame her, he himself was terrified.

A Keyblade was unlike any other object. Swords, objects, knives, or bows, wouldn’t be able to truly harm them. A punch to the face or a stab to the body would only hurt but pose no threat to their…non-existence.

However, Keyblades were an entirely different matter.

They could, essentially, kill them. Or, well. In Biyoo’s case, release her heart from darkness. In the case of Kim Dokja…

He closed his eyes. He didn’t want to hand over this body to them. He’d prefer anything, before returning it to them.

Thankfully, Yoo Jonghyuk hesitated.

“You,” he said, looking at Kim Dokja up and down. “What are you doing here?”

“I could ask you the same, Jonghyuk-ah,” Kim Dokja said, trying his best to come off as light-hearted and teasing. Deep down, he was terrified. That Keyblade would definitely end him if he wasn’t careful.

“I’m working,” he replied. “You, on the other hand…Don’t seem like a Keyblade master”.

“That’s because I’m not,” Kim Dokja said. Gently, he picked up Biyoo and cradled her in his arms.

“Wait! That’s dangerous-!”

“Hm?”

The man stared at Kim Dokja, confused.

“How can you hold it?”

“Biyoo isn’t an ‘it’, she’s a very smart young lady. Right, Biyoo?”

“Brrr!”

“It talks…?” Yoo Jonghyuk said, confusion plainly written on his face.

“All Heartless try to communicate,” Kim Dokja said with a simple shrug. “But Biyoo is smarter than most”.

“Puah!”

“Still, when Heartless touch you, they usually try to envelop you in darkness, unless…?”

“Unless?”

“What are you?”

Kim Dokja hugged Biyoo tighter in his arms.

“Nobody”

With that, Kim Dokja evaporated into a mist of darkness. He teleported away from Joonghyuk’s sight. From the shadows, he watched the man staring blankly at the empty spot he’d left behind.

“No one remembers a Nobody,” Kim Dokja said. “It’s better to just pretend I don’t exist, Jonghyuk”.

Unfortunately, things never go as Kim Dokja would like them to go.

During a particularly rough fight, Kim Dokja saw how the Nobodies began to creep closer and closer to Yoo Jonghyuk. He was already at his limit. The dumbass had run out of ethers, and his magic was all but wasted.

“Ahh, I really don’t want to do this, Biyoo,” he said. Biyoo on her end, didn’t seem to be even invested in what was going on with Jonghyuk. She was far busier playing with a lone butterfly that kept fluttering in the sky. “But I guess it would be boring if he dies, right?”

Bracing himself, Kim Dokja stepped out of the shadows.

“What a mess you found yourself in, Jonghyuk!” he exclaimed.

These Nobodies were not strictly under his control. They probably belonged to another Nobody, far more powerful than himself. Still, it didn’t hurt to try.

“You’re not the guys I know,” he said. “Are you perhaps with the Star Stream Organization?”

Kim Dokja felt the answer, rather than hear it. Nobodies like the ones Joonghyuk faced daily, weren’t capable of complex thoughts or forms. That’s why they appeared as white shapeless creatures. Only another Nobody could interpret their “voices”.

“So you are, huh,” he said. He focused all his energy on a small ball in his hand. It made them tremble. Kim Dokja had no idea what it was, or how to control it. He knew it was something both Heartless and Nobodies were scared of. But, truth be told, he also felt fear towards it. He’d rather not draw it if he could. “Would you be so kind as to rely a message?”

The Nobodies began to disappear, one by one.

“Don’t hunt my prey,” Kim Dokja said with a smile.

Just as he thought, the Nobodies fled. But by the time they were in the clear, Kim Dokja ran out of energy.

He fell to the ground, breathless and weak. The energy he’d accumulated, slowly dissipated in the air. It took an insane amount of power just for him to form a light bulb for a few seconds.

He was pathetic.

That’s when Yoo Jonghyuk got up. His eyes were digging daggers into his skull. Kim Dokja would try to escape, if he weren’t so tired. Biyoo dashed and tried to defend Kim Dokja.

A swarm of Heartless is scary. But a lone, single Heartless, isn’t.

Kim Dokja was quick to wrap her up in his arms, despite her struggles. He could die, but Biyoo couldn’t. She was too important to die.

“What are you?” Yoo Jonghyuk asked once again.

The only thing in Kim Dokja’s mind was his Keyblade. It looked even scarier up close. Every time he sees them from this close, it was always in a life or death situation. He could use a life without them happening as often.

“I told you, I’m a Nobody,” he said.

“No. A Nobody is a -- squawky little thing that keeps trying to kill me,” he said. “And you don’t look like you’re part of the Star Stream”.

“How are you so sure?” Kim Dokja said with a glare. He knew those guys. He didn’t like them.

“You don’t wear a black coat,” he said.

“You do”.

“It’s to blend in,” Joonghyuk replied. “Avoid getting their attention. But you…You don’t wear it.”

“Yeah, okay, fine, I’m not with those pricks,” Kim Dokja relented with a sigh. “Biyoo and I are on our own”.

“Biyoo?”

“Puah!”

“Ah, right. The Heartless has a name,” he said. “And it’s…owner?”

“I’m her dad,” he half-joked. Although he doubted that Joonghyuk was aware it was just that. “Kim Dokja”.

“No ‘x’. You are not being tracked by the Star Stream,” he said. “Then, why are you following me?”

“I’m not following you,” Kim Dokja said.

“You were with me in the last few words, and you jumped out the shadows just as I was being cornered. Explain”.

His glare meant business. Kim Dokja was mildly amused.

“A coincidence?”

“Kim Dokja!”

With a sudden shout, Yoo Jonghyuk raised his Keyblade and pointed it directly at Kim Dokja’s neck.

“Nothing! It’s nothing important, okay!? Being on my own gets boring. I travel a lot, so sometimes I stick around to watch you fight. It isn’t that big of a deal, okay?”

Eh, half-truths. Kim Dokja was traveling specifically so he could watch Yoo Joonghyuk. He could very well stay in Twilight Town, as he’s done for quite a few years. But on occasions, he did have to travel to get…that annoying “Company” out of his hair.

“You’re stalking me?”

“Harsh,” Kim Dokja said with a frown.

“Go back home,” he said, lowering the Keyblade.

“Hey-! I said I’m not-!”

“I’m going to Radiant Garden,” he said.

Kim Dokja stilled. Pure fear began to pump inside his veins.

“You know that place, right? It’s a world where a lot of Keyblade masters roam. Unless you want to die, don’t follow me.”

Kim Dokja didn’t even have the nerve to answer. He had that place acutely present in his mind. It was the place where she was. The leader of that stupid “Company”. Just the thought of having to confront her once more (Deep grey eyes, black hair, a Keyblade that was so desperate to find his end it wouldn’t stop even at the end of the world) was enough to have him taking a step back.

“Kim Dokja?”

Perhaps it was worry in Yoo Jonghyuk’s eyes. Perhaps it was fear. Or, who knows? Kim Dokja certainly didn’t. All he could do was take another step back. And another. Even as Joonghyuk tried to grab his hand, Kim Dokja hurried to move away.

“I won’t go there,” he said. Not sure if it was an answer to Joonghyuk or a statement to himself. Maybe it was both. “I’ll never go back there.”

Despite what little energy he had left, the pure adrenaline fear he felt was enough to teleport himself and Biyoo out of there. Back to Twilight Town. A place he felt at home in. A place that didn’t fill with fear. Perhaps, the only word in the entire system, where he didn’t have to run away.

“Hyung, you don’t seem okay,” Lee Gilyoung said.

“It’s nothing,” he answered, gently patting the kid’s hair. “Grown-up stuff”.

Lee Gilyoung pouted.

He sometimes felt guilty for saying that. After all, taking over-all years that they’ve been alive, Lee Gilyoung was probably way older than him. Kim Dokja was, what? Five years old? That was far from an adult, regardless of what his grown-up body may suggest.

“Puah!” Biyoo said. Kim Dokja chuckled and rubbed her head.

“You worry for nothing,” he said. “I’m fine!”

He wasn’t. It’d been weeks since he last saw Yoo Joonghyuk, but his words echoed in his brain; a constant loop. Radiant Garden. Could he…? Could he know her?

He really hoped he didn’t.

That worry was what had confined him to Twilight Town. This place may be the safest place he could find. Maybe not in terms of real protection – the town was just that. A town. No way to defend itself from Keyblade Wielders. In fact, people didn’t even know what they were – but it felt safe. Comforting. Calm. Kim Dokja wondered if it had to do with how isolated the place was. No one should be able to find it.

“Kim Dokja”.

Well, Yoo Joonghyuk was never what you’d consider “normal”.

“Joonghyuk-ah,” he said with a grin. Hopefully, it hid how much he’d rather not see the man, right now.

“Hyung? Who’s this?” Lee Gilyoung asked, startling Yoo JOnghyuk who probably just noticed the kids.

“Another Nobody?!”

“Relax, he’s a kid. A real kid,” Kim Dokja assured, sighing noticeably. “Can you really not tell us apart?”

Yoo Joonghyuk glared.

“You have a convincing disguise”.

Was that so? Kim Dokja didn’t put any particular effort into ‘hiding he was a Nobody’. The people who were searching for him were very aware he was one and would pinpoint him as one with less than a look.

It was more efficient to hide himself entirely.

He wondered how blind Yoo Joonghyuk had to be to completely overlook the very obvious fact that he didn’t have a heart.

“Are you going to hurt him? Like all those bad guys!?” Lee Gilyoung was quick to catch on. His eyes fell on the giant Keyblade Yoo Jonghyuk was wielding. Terrible memories sprung from his mind. “Get back!”

Yoo Joonghyuk simply raised an eyebrow, totally unimpressed.

Kim Dokja sighed even louder. He patted Lee Gilyoung’s head and pushed him back a bit.

“It’s alright, he won’t hurt me”.

That’s a lie. Kim Dokja was sure that now that Joonghyuk knew he was a Nobody, just like the rest of the Keyblade Wielders, he would go on a spree to destroy him.

But he couldn’t let Lee Gilyoung see that. The kid had already lost his family, and his only friends in the town were Biyoo and himself. He wanted to avoid seeing him die.

“Here, you can take care of Biyoo, meanwhile”.

He placed the little Heartless on the ground, despite Joonghyuk’s protests. The Heartless didn’t attack, and she wouldn’t be spreading darkness in the town. Despite this, Lee Gilyoung still slightly glared at the Heartless. He wondered why Lee Gilyoung didn’t completely get along with her. He hadn’t been afraid that one time Heartless invaded the town…

“Let’s go someplace quiet,” he told Joonghyuk.

And he followed.

The old mansion outside of town was a place that made Kim Dokja uncomfortable. But it was the farthest he could go from civilization. Hopefully, it would make his non-death as non-conspicuous as possible.

“You know, I don’t even own a weapon,” Kim Dokaj said with a sigh, turning around. “It’s really like attacking a defenseless person”.

“Attacking?” Yoo Jonghyuk asked.

“You know, dealing the final blow?” Kim Dokja asked. “I could always escape, but with you knowing this place…Don’t think there’s any other place for me to hide”.

“You think I’ll kill you?” Yoo Joonghyuk asked.

“Isn’t that what Keyblade Wielders are supposed to do?” he asked with a tilt of the head. “Destroy Heartless? Kill Nobodies?”

“A Keyblade Wielder is supposed to bring stability to the words,” Yoo Joonghyuk said. “You’re definitely a nuisance. But not one that poses a threat to the world order”.

“Eh?”

Kim Dokja blinked.

“Besides, I’m still not sure you’re a Nobody,” Yoo Joonghyuk said.

“Eh? Jonghyuk-ah, are you blind?”

“Hey!”

“I’m obviously a Nobody,” Kim Dokja said, utterly confused. “See? I don’t have a heart. I’m just a body, I don’t belong to light or darkness. I’m nobody-!”

“Shut up,” Yoo JOonghyuk said, moving past him. “I didn’t come here for pointless conversation”.

Pointless conversation!? This was serious stuff!

Kim Dokja huffed in annoyance.

“And what did you come here for?”

“The Heartless you carry around”.

“Biyoo?”

“It’s an anomaly”.

“She’s a perfectly healthy child, you know?”

“I haven’t seen Heartless act like it”.

“Her”.

“Whatever”.

Kim Dokja sighed.

“I met Biyoo when I first came to be,” Kim Dokja said. He looked down the mansion. For some reason, when he woke up, it was right here. He had a much younger body back then. Completely lost and unable to tell right from left. “She was being bullied by some other Heartless. I didn’t like seeing others take advantage of such a small thing, so I defended her. I guess she didn’t attack me since I’m a Nobody. After that, she got followed by Keyblade Wielders. At first they confused me with a human, so I didn’t get instantly killed.”

That’s how he first learned to run away from them. They would hunt you down first, and ask questions later. They were all dangerous. And that woman was the most dangerous of all.

“Ever since then, we stuck together”.

“But she doesn’t attack others,” Yoo Joonghyuk continued to muse. “She listens to you”.

“She’s smart, she doesn’t need me to ‘tell her’ anything,” Kim Dokja replied. “And I also don’t attack people. Am I an anomaly too?”

“You’re an anomaly for a bunch of other reasons,” Yoo Joonghyuk deadpanned.

“Ouch,” Kim Dokja said with a shrug. “What are you gonna do, then?”

“The ideal thing would be to take her back to study-“

That made Kim Dokja react. A sudden surge of bright darkness surged inside his chest. The light in his hands began to glow, threatening to pop up in a matter of seconds.

Kim Dokja’s voice turned cold. His eyes were devoid of light for the first time since Yoo Joonghyuk met him.

“You won’t touch her,” he said. Flickering in and out of existence, something began to form in his hand. “She’s a kid”.

“It’s a Heartless”.

“She’s my kid!” he yelled. He swore something was in his hand. If Yoo Joonghyuk tried anything on the poor Biyoo, he would chug the thing at him, consequences be damned.

Back then, he’d been so confused. Unsure of who he was, what he was meant to do, or be. If he hadn’t found Biyoo, he’s not sure he would be the way he is right now. His sole purpose had been to make sure she didn’t get hurt. He felt no attachment to the “life” he’d been created into. Couldn’t even recall his name for the longest time.

If he died, it was fine. As long as Biyoo was safe. Nowadays, he could die as long as it wasn’t at the hands of her. Biyoo had Lee Gilyoung. She could survive, even if he was gone.

But he would never hand her over to Radiant Garden. Wouldn’t let those sick bastards experiment on her. He wouldn’t –

“I won’t do it,” Yoo Joonhyuk said, eventually. The fury inside of Kim Dokja began to die down. “Don’t trust them, either.  Too close to the Star Stream Organization to my liking”.

The glow in Kim Dokja’s hand finally died down.

“Oh”

“Just make sure she stays out of trouble”.

Kim Dokja huffed, “she’s a perfectly behaved kid, okay?”

But Yoo Joonghyuk didn’t answer. He simply turned away and went.

Kim Dokja shook his head. Secretly, he was glad. At least, Yoo Joonghyuk wasn’t like the rest of the Keyblade Wielders, more than happy to chase him for worlds on end just to kill him.

He was a good person. At least.

"He's a weird person," he told Biyoo. They were hiding in a room on the top of the Twilight Tower, from which you could see the entirety of the town. It was beautiful to see such a lovely sunset every day as they woke up. Technically speaking, neither Nobodies nor Heartless needed sleep.

But it was nice to pretend.

"Brr!" Biyoo exclaimed from his arms.

He laughed and patted her head.

"He can't be that bad, don't be mean," he said. "Huh, I wonder why he feels so familiar, though."

Kim Dokja was a strange existence.

Yoo Joonghyuk knew of Nobodies for almost as long as he’d been a Keyblade Wielder. White formless creatures that roamed underneath the Star Stream Organization. And yes, he’d heard there were beings who could potentially look similar to humans if they had a strong will.

But he had never seen them.

That’s why he’d thought Kim Dokja was a human. A weird human, capable of peeking through words. Maybe a fellow Keyblade Wielder, or part of the Organization.

But, no. He turned out to be a lone Nobody, without any affiliation.

No. That was not everything. Kim Dokja was a confusing existence. Nobodies like him were rare to begin with. It was even rarer for them to hang around for as long as he did without being noticed. There was also the fact that they met because he was spying on Yoo Joonghyuk. What kind of weirdo did that? The little Heartless hanging around him didn’t make things less weird.

And most importantly – Kim Dokja had a heart.

There was no way he didn’t. He’d seen him having emotions. Confusion, happiness, sadness…When he was so sure that Yoo Joonghyuk was gonna kill him, he didn’t run or hide – but he could see the sorrow in his eyes. When he suggested they hand Biyoo to Radiant Garden, Kim Dokja was quick to rise in fury.

He formed connections too. Biyoo, that kid Lee Gilyoung, and even Yoo Joonghyuk himself.

Wasn’t that what a Heart was meant to be? Emotions, connections.

“You have to be an idiot if you think that’s all a Heart is,” Han Sooyoung said, as she peaked over his work.

“Get away,” he said.

“You can’t hope to understand Hearts with such a basic concept,” she said. “Else, you could even confuse Nobodies for people with Hearts”.

“Isn’t it possible?”

“You’re joking,” she laughed. When Yoo Joonghyuk showed no hesitation, she froze up. “They’re Nobodies. They don’t have a Heart, Can never have a Heart. That’s the point of their existence. They yearn for a Heart, so they attack others to have one of their own”.

“What if they don’t attack people”.

“Impossible,” Han Sooyoung said with certainty. “They’re all the same. Smart and without a heart. It’s easy to get tricked. Don’t be a fool, Yoo Joonghyuk”.

It was stupid not to listen to Han Sooyoung. She was a young genius. She had studied for the past five years, everything and anything under the sun about Hearts, Nobodies, and Heartless. If anyone knew about the nature of the Heart, it was her.

But still. He recalled Kim Dokja’s bright smile. His gentleness when taking care of Biyoo and Lee Gilyoung, and his rage when Biyoo was thought to be taken from him.

That much couldn’t be faked. No matter how much either Han Sooyoung or even Kim Dokja himself tried to claim.

“Whatever”.

Yoo Joonghyuk ended up going back to Twilight Town many, many times after that. The “official” reason was to make sure Biyoo was still a well behaved Heartless who didn’t attack people.

The real reason though was to check on Kim Dokja.

He wanted to see if his hypothesis was right. That Kim Dokja was, in fact, someone with a Heart.

It was the hardest and easiest thing to prove. Because every theoretical thing he’d ever been taught, pointed to the fact that Kim Dokja shouldn’t have one.

Yet.

“Biyoo, it’s okay,” Kim Dokja said in a slow voice. The little Heartless was trembling after they’d run into another Keyblade Wielder. Yoo Jooghyuk had been able to save her in the nick of time, but that didn’t make her any less nervous.

She was now quietly sobbing into Kim Dokja’s arms.

In all honesty, he hadn’t expected it to affect her so much.

“Shouldn’t Heartless be used to being threatened?” he asked.

“You’re the heartless one here, Joonghyuk,” Kim Dokja said, slightly exasperated. “Besides, my little Biyoo is a pampered lady. We rarely run into Keyblade Wielders”.

Well, Biyoo was pampered, alright. He’d learned Kim Dokja would do anything and everything for her.

Actually, Kim Dokja would do a lot for people.

Lee Gilyoung wasn’t the only one who Kim Dokja interacted on a daily basis in the little Twilight Town. Yoo Sangah often visited the place, and she seemed to get along quite well with him too.

“You must be his friend,” she said once. “Take care of him, please? He tends to forget to take care of himself sometimes”.

Jung Heewon was also a local who constantly brought groceries for Kim Dokja. Even when the Nobody said that he didn’t need to eat, the woman was quick to put in pressure to get him to accept it.

When asked why they cared so much about him, the reply of the townsfolk was a smile and an incredulous look.

“He protects this town,” Yoo Sangah answered.

“He saved me from a Heartless attack,” Lee Gilyoung said. “And he takes care of me when unnie is away”.

“This placed used to be so unsafe,” Jun Heewon replied. “It’s a miracle it’s still standing. Monsters around the corner, hooded people roaming around, and that horrible mansion… He’s saved me so many times, from all sorts of things. The least I can do is, well, make sure he’s safe too”.

It was hard to ignore that this place was the way it was because of Kim Dokja’s presence. However, when Yoo Joonghyuk asked why he did as much-

“Isn’t it obvious?” Kim Dokja answered. “I live here. If it attracts Keyblade Wielders, then I’ll have to move. That’s a hassle. It’s easier to keep this place without annoyances”.

Everything that surrounded him was weird.

He couldn’t understand. Why was Kim Dokja acting this way? Wasn’t he supposed to be a cold unfeeling creature? A carcass with no emotions?

But Joonghyuk had seen him. Eyes going soft whenever he ruffled Lee Gilyoung’s hair. The way he nuzzled with so much care at Biyoo’s face. His shyness whenever Jung Heewon brought groceries. How he would try to hide from Yoo Sangah, because he got injured again.

The air around them was warm.

“Joonghyuk!”

And that laugh. One could fake a lot of things. Yoo Joonghyuk had seen Nobodies from the Star Stream Organization fake being human. But it always fell short. Two things gave them away, the eyes and the smile.

Eyes that were empty, no matter how much they tried to emulate emotions. And their smile that couldn’t be happy, and just felt like a hollow line without much meaning.

But Kim Dokja laughed with so much happiness, it reminded him of the twilight that enveloped the town. Bright, warm, yet so mellow.

“I don’t want to die,” Kim Dokja had confessed once. “Well, at least not in the hands of a random Keyblade Wielder”.

“You won’t,” Yoo Joonghyuk said.

Kim Dokja shook his head.

“I’m a Nobody,” he said. He looked down at Biyoo, who was still soundly sleeping in his arms. “Sooner or later, someone will end me."

‘I won’t let them', Yoo Joonghyuk wanted to say. The thought itself surprised him.

"-And it's not like if I were gone, someone would miss me. No one would miss a Nobody”.

"Don't say that".

"Eh? You would miss my, Joonghyuk-ah?"

He said it with such a carefree tone. Likely teasing. Completely unaware of how many Hearts were connected to his own. Maybe thinking they were fake, not real. Yoo Joonghyuk wasn't sure anymore.

Kim Dokja's eyes softened.

"Don't be bothered too much, you won't even notice".

I would, Yoo Joonghyuk wanted to say. He clenched his fists. He opened his mouth, ready to argue, but-

“-But if I get to choose how to go,” Kim Dokja continued before he got a chance to stop him. “I want it to be you”.

“What?”

“Don’t let others kill me,” Kim Dokja clarified. “And don’t let them hurt Biyoo”.

The words sounded ominous.

“You’re too annoying to die,” Joonghyuk said.

At that, Kim Dokja’s smile turned silly.

“Ah, so mean, Joonghyuk-ah”.

Kim Dokja wouldn’t die. He couldn’t. He was the protector of Twilight Town, without him this place would be infested with Heartless in less than a week. He still had to take care of Biyoo because Yoo Joonghyuk was absolutely awful with kids. Not to mention he promised to play with Lee Gilyoung when summertime came. And Jun Heewon would be so angry at him if he died. Didn’t Yoo Sangah tell him to relay any weird Kim Dokja behavior to her? This definitely fell into that category.

Yeah. Kim Dokja couldn’t die.

He was a Nobody after all. Nobodies didn’t die. They simply stopped existing.

And Yoo Joonghyuk couldn’t picture a world where Kim Dokja didn’t exist.

Yoo Joonghyuk should have known something was wrong when Han Sooyoung stopped him an afternoon soon after he came back.

“Hearts are a fickle thing, Yoonghyuk,” she said. “I never knew you were so interested in their nature”.

He’d walked past her, ignoring her weird phrase. After all, he rarely was in contact with her. Her sudden interest was none of his concern.

He should have realized there was a reason behind it. And that the strange encounter wasn’t just a coincidence.

He should have known.

Kim Dokja knew she was watching. Yoo Joonghyuk maybe didn’t. After all, he hadn’t spent years trying to escape her eyes. But Kim Dokja was certain she was watching.

A viable option would be to run away. Hide in another world, abandon everything and try to build something new.

That would have been easier. It would have been so, so very easy. If it didn’t sound like the worst possible outcome.

He couldn’t leave Twilight Town. He couldn’t leave Yoo Joonghyuk. And despite how much he thought he could, there was no way he could bring himself to leave Biyoo behind either.

So, the only thing left to do was wait.

“In all the possible places you could have hidden yourself in,” the voice came from the shadows. “You chose to come back here, huh?”

For her to come out on her own.

He’d walked back to the mansion where it all began. Alone again, so reminiscent of the time he came here with Yoo Joonghyuk. Yet, so different.

“It’s been a while, Han Sooyoung,” he said with a smile. “I didn’t think I would see you again”.

Her face turned into an ugly one. The hatred she felt for him was undeniable. It almost hurt. Well, maybe it would if Kim Dokja had a heart, to begin with.

But he didn’t.

He didn’t.

“You’ve had fun, alright? Making everyone miserable? Bringing pain into other’s life? You had fun yet? Using his face? His name?”

Each word was a sharp arrow piercing everything it touched. Her anger was clear. The Keybalde in her hand shone in bright fury.

Kim Dokja smiled.

“A lot, actually”.

“You-! Dirty copy!”

Without a moment’s hesitation, she launched herself to attack. Her weight pushed forward, a single trike with every intent to destroy. Kill.

But before it made contact with Kim Dokja’s skin, it was blocked.

“Move” Han Sooyoung spat out.

“No”.

Despite how artful she was with the Keyblade, Han Sooyoung still paled in comparison to Yoo Joonghyuk. Before the recoil of the impact hit her too hard, she had to retreat.

“Have you lost your mind, Joonghyuk?” she asked, eyes narrowed. “That’s a Nobody!”

“And this is a peaceful world,” Yoo Joonghyuk answered. “Put away your Keyblade unless you want to upset the world order”.

“World order!? This parasite has been living in this place for years! The world order is crumbling as it is!”

“He hasn’t hurt anyone”.

“Hasn’t…hasn’t hurt anyone!?” Han Sooyoung asked, eyes wide and fire in her eyes. “He’s hurt more people than you think! Just by existing, this creature has destroyed everything!”

Kim Dokja flinched behind Yoo Joonghyuk. The Keyblade Wielder used his body to shield him from Han Sooyoung's eyes.

“Move, Joonhyuk,” the light in Han Sooyoung’s eyes was gone.

Yoo Joonghyuk didn’t reply.

“Well, have it your way,” she said. Her stance changed back into that of a professional. “But today, that Nobody dies”.

Panting and tired, Han Sooyoung stared at the half-beaten Yoo Joonghyuk. It was fair to call him a genius with the Keyblade. He was a savage when it came to the battlefield.

But perhaps, the deepest ache she had, came from the way that Nobody was looking at them. Or well, Yoo Joonghyuk.

She’d seen those eyes before. Looking furtively at a figure from the shadows. A little lost silhouette, trying so hard to cling for attention. It reminded him so much of him. God, how much she yearned for him to wake up. For him to be here again. Alive. With her.

She had to kill it. So that he would come back. She had to kill that Nobody. It was so close.

“Sooyoung,” a voice came from above. A wave of relief came over her.

“Uriel,” she called the woman with a smile.

At one point, she’d seen her eyes soften with love. A warm gaze, full of devotion and affection. Ever since that day, however, they’d lost all sweetness they once had. Nothing but ruthless fire was left in them. She was so willing to empty out her heart, for a chance to bring him back.

For that, Han Sooyoung was endlessly grateful.

“Found what you asked for,” she said.

Both the Nobody and Yoo Joonghyuk looked at her. It was confusion at first, but it soon soured into horror, when Uriel took it out.

The tiny Heartless.

“Thank you,” she said. She then turned back to Yoo Joonghyuk and the Nobody. “If you want your little minion to be unharmed, you’ll come with us. Willingly”.

“She was with Gilyoung,” the Nobody spoke. “He-…what did you do to him!?”

“The boy?” Uriel asked, confused. “Neutralized him, of course”.

Han Sooyoung watched as the Nobody’s eyes widened. She had an uncomfortable feeling in her heart. How dare it try to emulate emotions with that face?

“Leave my kids out of this!”

‘Your kids’ Han Sooyoung found it amusing. No wonder Yoo Joonghyuk was easily fooled by the Nobody’s actions.

“Hand yourself over,” Uriel said, her tone as cold as always. “You have to go back where you belong”.

The Nobody clenched his fists but complied. He moved Yoo Joonghyuk away and walked towards Han Sooyoung. When she finally got her hands on the Nobody, she felt her heart swell. Finally.

“Keep your promise. Leave them out,” he repeated. “Let her go”.

“The kid will be let go,” Uriel said. She made sure Han Sooyoung had her hands tightly on the Nobody. “But the Heartless is a danger to this world”.

The Nobody’s eyes widened.

“Let her go!” he screamed, struggling against Han Sooyoung. “Don’t touch her! Don’t you dare hurt her-!”

“Puah!” the Heartless struggled, letting out strange noises as if it were trying to communicate. If Han Sooyoung hadn’t seen them destroy countless words, engulfing even their beloved star into their darkness…she would have thought it was harmless.

“Shut up,” Uriel said, eyes glowing in anger. “Your kind took him away”.

And with that, she slashed the creature.

“Biyoo!”

Despite how tightly Han Sooyoung was holding it, the Nobody broke free from her hold. A bright flash blinded her for a second, and before she could react, the Nobody was reaching for Uriel.

“What-!?”

Han Sooyoung’s eyes widened when she stared at the Nobody leaping through the sky. It was only thanks to Uriel’s insane reaction time that she was able to block the attack. Han Sooyoung herself hadn’t been able to keep up with the Nobody’s movements.

Because right before her eyes, a strangely familiar form appeared.

“The Kingdom Key,” she breathed. She recognized it in an instant.

Kim Dokja’s Keyblade.

Uriel recognized it too, hesitating a fraction of a second. Recognition flashed in her eyes, and for a second, they softened.

“You’re truly his Nobody,” she said. “Which makes it even more painful to kill you”.

She didn’t hold back as she began to fight with the Nobody. Her movements - a clear testament to her title, ‘The One Winged Angel’. Her Keyblade moved with ease through the battlefield, switching forms and attacks without a second’s hesitation.

Meanwhile, the quite inexperienced Nobody couldn’t fully keep up. Maybe it retained some of the muscle memories of its Somebody, but it was a pathetic copy. It couldn’t even perform a “heal” without exhausting all its magic.

But even to Uriel, it was hard to attack such a familiar face. How she missed him. How dearly she clung to his memory. It was conflicting. To get her loved one back, she’d have to hurt something that looks so similar to him. Truly, it was God’s final test for her.

With quick movements, she began to attack it.

“Kim Dokja!”

The call of that name startled her. She turned in time to look at Yoo Joonghyuk. Quite a familiar face, bringing back fond memories of a simpler time. When her little star would hold her hand and ask her to keep the secret.

Uriel-unnie, you can’t tell!’

Oh, how her heart softened for those eyes.

The hesitation was enough for Yoo Joonghyuk to step forward and block her Keyblade. His hand then went to softly grab the Nobody by the waist, and guide him away from Uriel.

“Uriel!” Han Sooyoung screamed.

Before either had time to react, Yoo Joonghyuk opened a portal and moved through the darkness. It usually was a worrisome endeavor, but Joonghyuk was a Twilight Walker, and a Nobody wouldn’t be touched by darkness. They could escape through it without much issue.

But the same couldn’t be said for a being of pure light like Uriel, or a Keyblade Light Wielder like Han Sooyoung.

“Shit!” she screamed. “They got away! Hurry, we need to follow-!”

“No need,” Uriel said, putting away her Keyblade.

“Are you crazy!? We came so far and for this-!?”

“The Nobody was mortally wounded,” Uriel explained. “It’s dying already”.

“What?”

“Nobodies aren’t like us, they can’t heal a fatal wound,” she explained. “Right now, its physical form is falling apart. Either it dies a slow and painful death or…”

“Joonghyuk kills it himself,” Han Sooyoung finished.

“Let’s go,” Uriel said. “Kim Dokja will be waiting for us back home”.

“Joonghyuk”.

“Shut up”.

“Joonghyuk-ah”.

“I told you to shut up”.

“…Hyung?”

“You’re older than me”.

“I’m like five, you know?”

“Shut up”.

Kim Dokja was sitting on the bench near the train station. The eternal twilight shone on them, as Kim Dokja tried to breathe in. Yoo Joonghyuk attempted to heal his injuries, but no matter what potion he used, or what spell he cast, it just wouldn’t. His body was flickering like static, threatening to erase its presence in a moment.

“I failed her,” Kim Dokja said, tears threatening to spill from his eyes. “I wanted to save her so badly, but I still failed her…”

“It-…She’ll be fine. You said so yourself. She’s a smart girl, isn’t she?”

“She’s not an Emblem Heartless,” Kim Dokja said, staring at the sky. “She was born out of darkness, and she’ll return to it now that she’s gone I-“.

“Actually, that’s better”.

“What…?”

“She was too smart for a Heartless, she probably had a Nobody too,” Yoo Joonghyuk continued to talk. “If the Heartless and the Nobody gets destroyed, then-…”

“…their Somebody will return,” Kim Dokja finished.

“She’s strong,” Yoo Joonghyuk assured. “You’ll meet her again”.

“Not Biyoo. Not her again,” Kim Dokja said. “But her Somebody”.

“It’s the same thing”.

“You think so?” Kim Dokja asked, with a bitter laugh. “Why do you think those two were chasing me?”

Yoo Joonghyuk could piece together why. His mind went back to their conversation. He wanted to punch a hole in the ground.

“They’re trying to complete ‘him’,” Kim Dokja said, eyes filled with nothing but pain. “The real Kim Dokja”.

“Shut up,” Yoo Joonghyuk said. “There’s only one Kim Dokja annoying enough to be real”.

Kim Dokja’s laugh filled the air. It was so light, so filled with sorrow even when it was definitely out of fondness. Kim Dokja shouldn’t sound like this. He should be happy, taking care of Biyoo and Lee Gilyoung, protecting the in-between realm that was Twilight Town. His voice shouldn’t sound defeated; so lost.

“I don’t even know who he is,” he said. “I don’t have memories of who I was before, this. He’s a stranger. They kept asking me to die for a stranger”.

Back then, he had nothing. Couldn’t recall his name, his past, who he was, or who he was meant to be. And when he met Han Sooyoung, the first thing asked of him was – to die.

Stop being, so another could take his place. Kim Dokja had been scared. He clung to Biyoo in his arms. His body back then wasn’t as big, so all he could do was try and hide in the shadow of the Heartless that felt much more powerful than him. It was pure accident that he learned to travel through shadows. If not, Han Sooyoung would have destroyed him on the spot.

“I guess,” Kim Dokja said. “He’s way more important than me. He’s somebody, and I’m not”.

The “real” Kim Dokja was loved. Cherished. Likely, he had so many hearts connected to his. He’d seen the way Han Sooyoung looked when she remembered him. A look full of endearment. Others often joined her, all certain that the “real” Kim Dokja deserved to live, not the “Nobody” who had stolen him away.

“I didn’t want to die like this,” Kim Dokja confessed. “If I could choose to die, I wanted it my body to go back to Darkness. So that they wouldn’t have it. And their “precious” Kim Dokja wouldn’t live”.

Warm tears rolled down his cheeks.

“I don’t wanna live again,” he confessed. He tried to hide them behind his opened palm, but it was fruitless. “I don’t want to be “that” Kim Dokja ever again!”

What little he remembers, is pain. Bruises, cuts, endless pages of writing that numbed it for a while. Eyes looking at him with disdain. Loneliness. Sorrow.

Kim Dokja didn’t remember his life as a Somebody, because this body would rather forget them. Rather for those memories to not exist. That’s how painful they were.

It was no wonder his heart had been swallowed by Darkness. The “real” Kim Dokja had given in to it.

“Is that what you want?” Yoo Joonghyuk asked. Kim Dokja moved his hands away, ever so slightly. He looked down at Yoo Joonghyuk who was kneeling, completely giving up on healing him. “Is that truly what you want, Kim Dokja?”

‘Kim Dokja’. He loved it when Yoo Joonghyuk would call him. It made him feel like he wasn’t just a lonely copy who’d existed for too long. But he was truly “Kim Dokja”. Not a Nobody, but truly someone.

“I don’t want to be him,” Kim Dokja repeated. “I want 'Kim Dokja’s existence' to end with me”.

And he knew that the “real” one, did too.

“Alright,” Yoo Joonghyuk said. “I’ll make sure he doesn’t wake up”.

Kim Dokja’s eyes widened. A gentle smile bloomed on his face.

“Thank you,” he said. A loud cough made his body flicker even harder. “Ne, could I ask you another favor?”

“Shut up”.

“It really hurts to die like this,” he said. “Could you-…?”

“Shut up!”

“Hee, I guess I asked too much?” Kim Dokja said with a sigh. “Ahh, it really hurts, Joonghyuk-“

“I said, shut up!”

He materialized his Keyblade. Kim Dokja smiled.

“Thank you”.

A final blow.

“SHIT!”

Han Sooyoung’s body hit the wall with so much force, she was sure it broke her spine.

“Don’t let him come through!” Uriel’s voice sounded at the end of the hall, but Han Sooyoung’s ears were tingling from the hit. It sounded so far away, distorted even. “Lee Hyosung! Don’t fall down!”

“What happened…?” Han Sooyoung gasped, heaving for air.

This didn’t make sense.

Her head hurt. It spun. God, what was happening?

Why was Yoo Joonghyu here?

Don’t let him get through. Don’t let him reach the hall.

What was he doing?

He’s there. Please, don’t let him through, he’s still there.

She struggled to get up, her body aching so badly it caused her to wince. Still, it didn’t matter. She was not about to let Yoo Joonghyuk destroy everything she’d been working towards.

Uriel was blocking his path, but that was just for now. Uriel was far more experienced, a force to be reckoned with. But after so many years of using her “Endless Will” form, her body had deteriorated. It was no longer what if had been in her prime.

Yoo Joonghyuk could make her struggle – even handicap her. It didn’t help that everyone else was down.

Han Sooyoung dragged herself before the door. It was still locked. Thank God. As long as they stopped Joonghyu, as long as he didn’t enter-

“Move”.

“Ha. Fell in love with a fake?Han Sooyoung laughed. “I can’t believe you fell for that Nobody’s tricks.”

“Move,” he repeated his words. This time, he raised his Keyblade to her neck.

“No,” she said. Han Sooyoung summoned her Keyblade and glared upwards. “I won’t leave him alone. Not again”.

“What are you doing, weirdo?”

Han Sooyoung remembered. Back then, they were kids. Kim Dokja hiding behind a book scared anyone would come to find him. He would peek over, just to cast a loving smile towards her.

She wishes she could remember his face. Anything other than the vague recollections of a face, a frame, and eyes that seemed to read her. Maybe she loved that smile. Was it cute? She remembers convincing herself that it was annoying. Nowadays, she didn’t think it ever was.

He then would stretch out his hand. He wouldn’t say hi, wouldn’t say much of anything, nor would he act like Han Sooyoung being there was a big deal.

“A ‘please’ would be nice, you know?” she said.

“Please?”

“Ugh, you’re lucky no one else likes to read this trash,” she would say and hand him the loose pages she’d written.

Kim Dokja had a binder, filled with the stupid papers. It was worn down and some of the pages were barely readable. It was a bad idea to start writing it in pencil, now that was entirely faded. Not that it mattered, Kim Dokja probably had it memorized.

It was a dumb story, started on a whim. For no reason, for no purpose. Yet, here was this idiot clinging to it like it was worth anything. Han Sooyoung should probably finish it already.

She didn’t. She never did. And Kim Dokja that stupid, stupid fool, never read the end of it. She continued to write it, in hopes he would one day wake up, and he’d read it.

But she could never bring herself to write the last chapter.

Why would she, if no one would read it?

But Kim Dokja liked it. She could always indulge him, it wasn’t that hard.

It was the easiest thing to do. He liked it, no matter how awful she thought it was. How cruel she was, how shitty and long it came off as. Kim Dokja loved it.

Why?

Back then, she thought this was enough. She could live like this. Writing, having someone read it. Kim Dokja was a painfully pathetic existence, but she doubted she could exist in a world where he didn’t. What’s the use of an author, if no one read what they wrote?

But as long as she wrote, Kim Dokja would continue to exist. He wouldn’t die, wouldn’t stop existing. Because that’s just who he was. For the sake of an epilogue, he would continue on the shitty existence he had.

Even when their world was ended, and they somehow found themselves stuck in Traverse Town, she knew Kim Dokja would survive.

What she hadn’t expected, however, was for them to meet Yoo Joonghyuk.

She still remembers young Kim Dokja’s face turning soft as he looked onwards at that man.

“He’s just like your character, Sooyoung!”

“What? Secretive Plotter is way cooler than him, Dokja!”

Granted, he looked uncannily similar to him. If Secretive Plotter were younger and easily fooled. What a strange coincidence.

It was thanks to Kim Dokja being able to use the Kingdom Keyblade that they were able to get out of Traverse Town. He wanted to catch up to Yoo Joonghyuk. Desperate to become a Keyblade Wielder that could become his companion.

But really, Kim Dokja was a little brat that could barely attack. Most of his spells were defensive, and his power laid on tactics, rather than brute force.

Not the shining protagonist he liked to pretend he was.

Still, his acutely tuned heart to those around him was able to draw in a series of characters that were more than happy to aid him in his journey.

“We’ll go back home, Han Sooyoung,” Kim Dokja would reassure her. They were both kids, and back then she was the younger one, the smaller one. Even if she still thought he looked silly, she felt at ease trusting him. “Back to Radiant Garden. We’ll go there together, and I’ll read the end of your story”.

Who would have thought that to unlock the gate, they’d have to sacrifice Kim Dokja’s heart?

And why did that idiot give it up so easily?

Stabbing his own chest with a Keyblade, surrendering his heart to darkness?

“It’s okay,” he’d said back then. “Take care of everyone”.

She still has nightmares where Kim Dokja slowly fades in her arms. Into a specter of light. Radiant Garden back to them, but her most beloved person – gone.

It’d taken her so long to finally find clues of what had happened. There was still a chance. If she could only find Kim Dokja’s Heartless and Nobody, then kill them both…She’d have him back.

With the amount of Heartless they’d vanish, that was likely taken care of, right?

But his Nobody…

What was giving her a headache, was Kim Dokja’s Nobody.

Yoo Joonghyuk opened the door, wiping the blood from his injured eye. It was sure to leave behind a scar, but after everything that had happened, he’d be more surprised if it was the only one he would have.

Han Sooyoung was writhing in pain, barely hanging in consciousness. Her eyes blearily opened, as she caught a glimpse of the boy sitting up. A small smile spread through her face.

She finally saw him again.

Meanwhile, Yoo Joonghyuk was frozen in place.

He wasn’t sure what he’d expected when Kim Dokja asked him to kill his “Somebody”. Maybe, even Kim Dokja himself didn't know. After all, he’d never met his other half. The only thing he seemed certain of, was how much he wanted him gone.

Like just the thought of that version of himself brought him a million memories of pain.

That’s why Yoo Joonghyuk had accepted. Thinking, maybe this version of Kim Dokja was a worse version of himself. One that was filled with darkness. One that was the pure evil that the Nobody had in his heart. He’d been blinded by the rage of losing Kim Dokja, he hadn’t stopped to think what the Somebody would look like.

He never expected-

“Wow,” the little boy gasped. “You’re just like Sooyoung’s character…”

-A kid.

Yoo Joonghyuk dropped his Keyblade.

“Hey there, weirdo,” Han Sooyoung gasped, weakly propping herself up. “How’s it going?”

“Sooyoung?” Kim Dokja asked. For a second his eyes clouded with confusion. “When did you get so big?”

“Ever since you went to sleep, you lazybones,” she said with a soft laugh. She extended her hand. “Come now, time to go home.”

However, when Kim Dokja took a step forward, he stopped. Before anyone reacted, he took two steps back, flinching.

“Dokja?”

“Huh? What’s wrong?” he asked.

“Come home. Here, reach out”.

Kim Dokja shook his head and took yet another step back. When Han Sooyoung tried to stand up, Kim Dokja visibly flinched and grabbed Yoo Joonghyuk’s coat.

“No,” Kim Dokja said. He then shook his head. “I don’t like it. My-, my chest feels stuffy”.

“What do you mean? It’s time to go home, Dokja!” Han Sooyoung exclaimed. Her expression broke.

At the loud sound, Kim Dokja was quick to hide behind Yoo Joonghyuk, much to Han Sooyoung’s horror.

“Are you okay?” Yoo Joonghyuk asked, slowly kneeling down to look at the boy in the eyes.

“Yes, it’s just,” the boy flushed, struggling to get out the words when someone so cool was looking at him. “It’s like my body’s scared”.

Han Sooyoung flinched in her place.

It couldn’t be-

“What about me?” Yoo Joonghyuk asked. “Aren’t I scary?”

Kim Dokja shook his head very lightly.

“Warm,” Kim Dokja replied. He closed his eyes and leaned his head unto Yoo Joonghyuk’s shoulder. “You won’t hurt me. Never did”.

Yoo Joonghyuk knew he should kill the person in front of him. Kim Dokja was stolen from him because of this existence.

But killing a version of the man he loved, just because the other got taken away…Wouldn’t it make him as much a monster as them?

Yoo Joonghyuk remembered Twilight Town.

“There’s someone waiting for you,” he said. “Would you like to meet them again?”

“Hmn!”

The small hand took his scarred one. Without flinching, without fear. Feeling himself sinking deeper into Darkness, Yoo Joonghyuk smiled.

He opened a portal and went home.

Notes:

Kim Dokja and Yoo Joonghyuk end up finding Biyoo again as Shin Yoosoung (her somebody) but Biyoo lives in her heart as an entirely separate existence - the likes of Namine and Roxas. If it's of any solace, yes she eventually gets her own body back and reunites with kim dokja.

It would mean a lot to me if you could rt my promo for the fic!
