Seungcheol could narrate all the times his pet dog, Kkuma, and his boyfriend, Jeonghan, never saw eye-to-eye with each other but if he did, we'd all be here 'till the next day and we don't want that, do we?
What he could tell you about though was the first time Kkuma saw Jeonghan and she went ballistic, trying to get her paws on the poor blond. Or when Seungcheol pulled Jeonghan into his lap and kissed him intending to get things heated, only to have Kkuma barking wildly, almost as if she's telling Jeonghan to get off his father's lap. Or when Seungcheol got a call from his brother saying that Kkuma missed him and he made the mistake of saying "Daddy's gonna come home soon, okay?" and then Jeonghan was suddenly glaring at him and puffing his breath.
He never understood why until Jeonghan screamed at him, "You let her call you daddy?" Seungcheol would have laughed because how the hell would Kkuma call him that but Jeonghan looked livid.
And ever since then, Jeonghan was aloof with Seungcheol's pet dog. He did try to get close to her but it just wouldn't work—not when Kkuma starts barking every time she gets a glimpse of Jeonghan's blond hair. Now, Jeonghan was even jealous of Kkuma especially when Seungcheol got home from his business trips because the first one he visited was always the dog. (Kkuma stayed in their family home and his house was where Seungcheol goes first.)
Seungcheol should be annoyed or better yet, weirded out. Still, there was something so endearingly special with the way Jeonghan was getting jealous of a fluffy white dog and then demanding Seungcheol's attention afterward that all he could do was smile like an idiot because damn, it felt so good to be wanted by Yoon Jeonghan.
Here he was, home from a business trip again, one that lasted for a good ten days. He hadn't seen Jeonghan in that long time and my, oh my, Seungcheol was aching for him. He wanted to hold him. He wanted to see him. He wanted to kiss him so bad.
That's why he decided to visit his family home first to greet his parents and Kkuma so that after this, his time was all for Jeonghan. Imagine Seungcheol's shock when he went home and Kkuma wasn't there. His parents wouldn't even tell him why. Don't get him wrong. He loved Kkuma so much, but the speed with which he drove to his and Jeonghan's apartment could prove him otherwise.
When he got there, he almost laughed at himself at how he frantically punched in the code to his unit. Jeonghan might be sleeping at this hour so he would understand if he wasn't able to welcome him.
But Seungcheol got surprised when he received a warm welcome from a fluffy, white mass of fur that suddenly barged into the hall instead. She was running with her cute, equally fluffy legs, to greet him.
"Kkuma!" Seungcheol exclaimed, quite confused. So this was where she was.
He immediately carried the dog, hugging her close to his chest. He was surprised that Kkuma wasn't barking like she usually did when he came home, but she looked really happy to see him.
Until she was struggling free, asking to be let down, so Seungcheol did. Kkuma was looking at him expectantly. He thought she was asking for treats but it looked like she was asking him to follow her. Kkuma ran in the direction of Seungcheol and Jeonghan's bedroom and that was when Seungcheol understood.
Jeonghan must have taken care of Kkuma while Seungcheol was gone. That's why the dog wasn't in his parents' home and why it looked like she wasn't there for days.
The dog and her owner entered the room. Seungcheol melted as he watched Kkuma jump on the bed, settling herself beside Jeonghan and wagging her tail. He was about to reprimand her that Jeonghan might be disturbed but the blond already started to move, clearly awoken, his hand reaching out to touch Kkuma's fur.
"Kkuma? Baby, what’s wrong?" Jeonghan mumbled sleepily, eyes blinking as he sat up.
Seungcheol almost cried. Baby? He watched Kkuma look back and forth between him and Jeonghan. Then, she was suddenly moving close to the blond, almost as if she was telling him something.
Like she was telling Jeonghan that Seungcheol was finally home.
"Hey," Seungcheol said to announce his presence.
Jeonghan sat frozen as he blinked his eyes repeatedly, looking at Seungcheol like he couldn't believe it. Seungcheol sat on the soft mattress and was surprised when Kkuma gave way, sitting quietly on the foot of the bed, giving the couple some space. He rested a hand on Jeonghan's thigh to get his attention.
"Seungcheollie," Jeonghan murmured, his face slowly lighting up. "You're here."
"Yes, love," Seungcheol said, his voice full of adoration. "I'm here. I'm home."
He reached out to the blond but Jeonghan was already there, moving toward him. He wasted no time sitting on Seungcheol's lap, his legs dangling on the side, his arms wounding around Seungcheol. Jeonghan's face was buried in Seungcheol's neck right after.
"Oh my god, I missed you, baby," Jeonghan almost whined against his neck. "Don't you dare go on business trips ever again. This last one was too long!"
Seungcheol laughed, hugging Jeonghan and squeezing him tight because he missed the feeling of having him in his arms. The blond responded with a soft kiss on his neck and all Seungcheol could think of was how happy he was that Jeonghan was finally here with him once again.
He really was home.
"I missed you so much, too," Seungcheol said softly. He urged Jeonghan to look at him and when he did, he held his face gently in his hands.
A caress on the cheek. A squeeze on the arm. A smile on their lips. A smile they only reserved for each other.
It was enough for Seungcheol to start peppering Jeonghan's face with kisses because, god, he missed this a lot. He missed the content expression that Jeonghan had every time Seungcheol showered him with love like this. He missed the way Jeonghan would start chasing his mouth when he felt like the kisses on his face wasn't enough. So he did kiss him, capturing Jeonghan's lips perfectly against his.
Seungcheol missed kissing Jeonghan because it was like that sweet and triumphant moment of finding an oasis in the desert when you thought all was lost. Today was the day that Seungcheol felt like his thirst was quenched, the day where the ache in his chest subsided after not seeing and touching his lover for so long. Kissing Jeonghan, feeling their mouths moving in sync with each other, was the single best thing Seungcheol could ever have in his life.
Jeonghan was kissing him with the same urgency and with the same passion, his fingers winding their way through Seungcheol's hair. He almost whined again when Seungcheol began planting soft kisses on the side of his neck, an action that Jeonghan had always loved. Every press of his lips on him was incredible. When Seungcheol started nipping lightly against his skin, Jeonghan had to pull away.
"Our kid is watching," Jeonghan breathed, his face feeling warm as he clutched onto Seungcheol's arms.
"Our kid?" Seungcheol asked with his mouth still next to Jeonghan's neck. When he turned his head, he saw who Jeonghan was pertaining to. Kkuma was there, watching with her black eyes, head slightly tilting to the side when Seungcheol looked at her.
"Yeah, she's too young for this," Jeonghan said, a playful tone in his voice, and Seungcheol laughed.
He started kissing Jeonghan again when the blond started laughing, too. "You stopped me from kissing you because of our kid? Have I already told you that everything you say or do is so endearing, Yoon Jeonghan?"
Jeonghan just smiled shyly at that, his fingers brushing over Seungcheol's cheeks and lips. His touch lingered there in Seungcheol's mouth so Seungcheol kissed his fingers lightly.
"I figured I should make peace with her, you know? I thought she couldn't possibly hate me that much. Four days after your flight, I started missing you more than ever. Out of nowhere, I suddenly thought, 'Kkuma probably misses Cheollie, too.' So I went to your parents' house. I played with her, tried to get to know her," Jeonghan remembered happily. "I guess we understood each other a lot because we missed you so much. We found a common ground. Kkuma probably misses you more than I do because she isn't always with you. I'm always with you and yet, every day without you is kinda hard, Cheol. I missed you every day. It must have been harder for her."
"Oh, Jeonghan," Seungcheol whispered and pulled the blond close to him again. "I missed you both so much. You have no idea."
Jeonghan smiled again. "I think we know."
Seungcheol placed a kiss on his forehead. He moved slightly, leaning to plant a kiss on top of Kkuma's head, too. She perked up and wagged her tail again, pleased with the affection. Seungcheol chuckled and addressed Jeonghan again.
"So, you guys are best friends now?"
Jeonghan gave him a look that almost looked like an exasperated one. It was like he was saying, I just gave a whole speech about Kkuma and even called her our kid and that's what you're saying?
"She's not my friend, Seungcheol. She's my child. If you're her daddy, then, I'm her papa. Isn't that right, my sweet little baby?" Jeonghan cooed, scratching Kkuma's chin endearingly. "You're our daughter, aren't you?"
Seungcheol stilled.
For some reason, with the way Jeonghan said it, Seungcheol almost pulled out the ring he was hiding in his drawer, dropped to one knee, and proposed to Jeonghan right then and there.
"You're really going to treat her that way?" Seungcheol said softly.
Jeonghan smiled at him fondly. "Of course, baby. We just had a rough start but I always cared for her. You said she was ours. She is ours, just the same way that I am yours."
God, Seungcheol loved Jeonghan so fucking much.
He pulled him by the arm, cupping his face to kiss him long and hard. When the kiss ended, Jeonghan looked winded but he had a huge smile on his face. Seungcheol had to kiss him again.
"I love you," Seungcheol said in between kisses.
"Hmm, I love you, too," Jeonghan responded, letting himself get lost in the kiss.
And Kkuma, being the smart dog that she was, finally decided to jump off the bed and lounge on the small cushion Jeonghan made for her so that her parents could catch up with all the days that they weren't together.
Let it be known that Yoon Jeonghan was also hiding a ring of his own, in a place somewhere safe, with the thought of proposing to Choi Seungcheol on his birthday.
On the day of Seungcheol's birthday, after they got home from their dinner, an unexpected event occurred. Jeonghan was about to pull out the ring and ask Seungcheol the million-dollar question but he got interrupted when Kkuma suddenly started barking. She started to run away and Jeonghan felt mortified because he almost dropped to one knee, just right before Kkuma intervened.
But he was surprised when Kkuma bounded into the room once more. She was carrying something in her mouth. She dropped it on Seungcheol's waiting hand. Seungcheol petted her fur and then she ran away again. Seungcheol fiddled with the small pouch and pulled out a box.
A box that was quite similar to what Jeonghan was hiding in his hands.
Jeonghan cried. Seungcheol cried. Kkuma watched over them as if she knew what was happening at the very moment.
Well, as far as Kkuma was concerned, both Jeonghan and Seungcheol now wore rings on their fingers.
They said yes.
