Work Text:

The girls were out shopping and decided to check out a flower shop for a change of pace for their day. Even though they still had errands to finish, it was nice to do something that wasn’t exactly needed. They were looking at succulents when a man with long wavy black hair wearing designer sunglasses and a three-piece suit walked in while on the phone. Korra stares at him in wonderment as this man just looks…odd.

“Yeah, Mark, we should go to this one place, hauh. They have great bierocks.” The man barely enunciated his hard consonants.  Also, what in the world is a ‘bierock’?

“I got to go, say hai to Denny for me.” The mysterious man said as he flipped shut his flip phone. He quickly walks up to the lady at the counter. Korra kept her gaze at the man until Asami nudged her with her arm. She knew that Korra people watched and while sometimes she didn’t see the harm in it, but this time she knew Korra was staring due to how strange the man looked. Korra immediately turned around to look at anything besides the man and tried her best to not laugh out loud. Asami mouthed “stop” as now she was battling for her own composure. Unfortunately, Korra couldn’t help herself as she side-eyed the entire encounter.

“Hai.”

“Can I help you?”

“Yeah, ca’ I have a dozen red roses, please?” The man asks as he lifts his sunglasses to his forehead.

“Oh hi, Johnny, I didn’t know it was you.” How do you not know it was this man??? Korra thought. The woman at the counter just took a step to her side and grabbed a bouquet of roses. “Here you go.”

“Tha’s me .” The clerk puts the roses on the table. “How much is it?”

“It’ll be eighteen dollars.”

“Here you go. Keep the change.” The man started speaking after hearing ‘eighteen’, and, also put a weird emphasis on the word ‘change.’ He grabbed the roses and held them upside down. He took notice of the small pug sitting quietly on the counter. “Hai doggie.” he says as he pets its head once.

“You’re my favorite customer.” That has to be a lie, right?

“Thanks a lot. Bye.” And the man immediately left the shop.

“Bu-bye. “ the clerk said.

Korra could barely contain herself as she sheepishly kneeled to the ground, trying so very hard to not burst out laughing. The weird looking man walked in and out of the store in less than 20 seconds. And that conversation seemed like the most broken and unbelievable. As Korra tried to fathom what she just witnessed, Asami playfully kicked her and whispered “Get up.”

Korra wheezed, “I can’t.”

Feeling strongly embarrassed she grabbed Korra by the arm and left the shop before Korra could out themselves. Finally outside and at what they deemed to be a safe distance, Korra doubled over in laughter. “What was that??”

Asami couldn’t help but laugh with her now that Korra opened the floodgates. “I don’t know.”

Who was that?”

Asami could only theorize. “I’m not sure, he did wear designer clothes so he’s got to be upper class or some sort…but I’ve never seen him anywhere.”

“He might be richer than you.” Korra teased, still laughing.

Asami could only respond with a playful punch to Korra’s shoulder. “Come on, let’s finish our errands already. You’ve had enough entertainment for the day.”
