Work Text:

Three days. It had been three days since you’d fought the Demiurge alongside DG and Innocent.

You thought you'd won. It all happened so fast and you were so focused on keeping fighting, you weren’t even sure of half of what was going on.

And then suddenly there was a white flash and you were back in your room, staring at your phone. You didn’t even get a glimpse of the screen before the app crashed and your phone storage was suddenly a gigabyte lighter.

You quickly relaunched the app, desperate to find out what happened.

You didn’t know quite what you expected, but it wasn’t this. The app opened up exactly as it normally would, the logo popping on the screen with its signature shout, and the start screen appearing exactly the same. When you tapped Start and the game loaded however, where you should meet a waiting Demon God surrounded by six pets, you met the backdrop of the void and six empty pillars. Tapping the menus each brought up a white screen. There was no music, nothing moved, nothing happened. The screen that once constantly moved even in slight ways as if breathing now stood frozen like a computer trying to load too many programs at once, except it never un-froze. It was eerie.

And here you were, three days later, staring at the frozen screen, waiting - hoping - for something - anything - to happen. Nothing, absolutely nothing had happened. That was what was so weird. You hadn’t heard from any of the gods, DG, Demiurge, or other, but you weren’t dead, the Demiurge didn’t kill you, so what was the outcome? Had you defeated the Demiurge or not?

What worried you the most about all of it though was the fact that you hadn’t heard from DG at all in any way. You didn’t know where he was, or if he was ok. He could be alive, he could be dead; it was like some sort of Schrodinger’s grief. You didn’t know how to feel.

For the past three nights you’ve been going to bed early with the sole purpose of seeing if he would visit. He usually came if you left the app open.

And yet tonight, through some sort of cruel irony, you couldn’t sleep. The worry was eating you up inside. Schrodinger’s cat hadn’t made a single meow in three days and you were starting to lean more and more towards the idea that the vial of poison had indeed broken.

So you just sat on your bed, your phone in your hands, with the app open.

He probably wasn't even in there anymore, but you didn't know what else to do. All you could do was stare at your phone as you sat on your bed and let your mind wander to the darkest, most terrifying possibilities you could think of.

You hope he's ok...

"You're up late." a familiar voice suddenly speaks.

Notes:

This is the last installment in the JKM3 Dream Saga! This was all so much fun and I'm so thankful for everyone who stuck with me and shared their kind words throughout it all! While this particular series is coming to a close it's not the end! I plan to still continue to make JKM3 fics, and some may be from past the end of this plotline! So stay tuned!
