...

A sigh was threatening to escape him when the social worker entered followed by an eight year old. The child was a boy with green hair and dull green eyes. The social worker was a middle aged woman who had dark bags that rivaled Eraserhead's under her eyes. Most of her cases were the "difficult" ones that no one else wanted to deal with. It was a shame for she truly seemed to care.

"Tsukauchi this is Izuku Midoriya," said the woman tiredly, "Thank you for agreeing to take him in. For now it is an emergency Foster Placement. You know the deal."

Truth.

Naomasa smiled at the boy, Izuku but he flinched. An abuse case? He hated these cases. They always left a bad taste in his mouth.

"Anything I should know about?"

She sighed, "His mother abandoned him. A good samaritan took him to the police station. He really hasn't said much since he arrived. As far as we can tell he doesn't have any allergies."

"Alright," accepted Naomasa, "I'll take over from here."

"Thank you, Detective," She said and left soon after.

Turning to Izuku he asked, "How about I show you, your room? Does that sound okay?"

For a moment the dull green eyes just stared at him blankly. Then he whispered, "Yes. Okay."

Lie. Naomasa had to bite back the urge to flinch. It was the same urge he felt every time someone lied.

Not wanting to scare the kid he asked, "Are you sure?"

Izuku stared up at him suspiciously as he said, "Yes?"

Lie.

Concern flashed through him but he led Izuku up the stairs and to his stairs bedroom. It was a bland and empty as he wasn't expecting to get an emergency foster. Izuku looked at it with unreadable eyes.

Naomasa said, "You can put your things away. I'm going to get started on dinner. Is there anything you want?"

Izuku shook his head and Naomasa sighed internally.

...

Over the next few weeks Naomasa came to realize that Izuku would not tell him if he was uncomfortable. Everything he did was designed to not make waves. It made him want to rub at his eyes in frustration. All he wanted was the kid to be comfortable with him. Was that so wrong?

The door opened almost silently as Izuku entered. Naomasa blinked at the boy in shock. A nasty bruise was blackening his right eye. The shoulder of his school jacket was heavily burned. What in the world happened?

Without realizing what he was doing he rushed to the kid's side. There was a strong flinch from the boy. For the moment he ignored it as he kneeled down to look at the bruise. When he brought a hand up to tilt Izuku chin to the side so he could get a better look. Only Izuku's shoulders to rise with flinch as he ducked down as if preparing for a blow.

Naomasa paused watching and waiting. He wanted to check the injuries but he didn't want him to be uncomfortable. Or for him to run as soon as he was released.

There was a long pause and the green eyes stared at him. He didn't move away so he reached out slower this time. Firmly he took Izuku's chin and turned his head to the side. The bruise was a nasty one. With gentle fingers he prodded at it. A wince was received. Hairline fracture to the cheekbone if he had to guess.

With equally as gentle fingers he pulled the jacket away. He was not able to stop himself from physically flinching at the sight. Izuku shoulder had at least second degree burns on it.

He asked, "What happened? Why did no one call me?"

Izuku turned his head to the side in confusion, "It was an accident. I'm fine."

Lie.

For the love of... he couldn't help Izuku if the kid didn't tell him what was wrong. Maybe he should tell Izuku about his quirk. The only reason he hadn't before now was that he didn't want to make him uncomfortable.

Naomasa asked softly, "Do you know what my quirk is, Izuku?"

He shook his head.

"My quirk is Lie Detector," explained Naomasa and the boy flinched as well as tried to move away from him, "Hey its okay. I didn't want to make you uncomfortable which is why I haven't said anything before now. I'm not angry with you. I just want to help. Let me help you."

Izuku said his voice uncertain, "I don't know how."

"Let me show you."

For now Izuku nodded but Naomasa knew it would not be the last time they had this conversation. It was a start however.
