Work Text:
They doorbell chimed through the house.
Nancy waited a moment before remembering there was no one else home to answer it.
With a sigh she rolled from the bed, book abandoned and dashed down the stairs.
"Coming!" She shouted as a second chime sounded.
She pulled the door open, wondering what delivery person it would be this time, only to be met with…flowers.
She was automatically reaching for them before she focused enough to see they weren't from a florist.
"Robin! Hi!" She exclaimed happily.
"HI! Um..hi..Nancy, um…hi." The words spilled out. Robin blushed and glanced around
"Oh, um. I'm just here to give you these." she thrust the flowers at Nancy. Nancy automatically grabbed them, pressing her nose to the colorful bouquet.
"They are so pretty, thank you!" She had to lunge forward, grabbing the other girls hand before she could flee the front porch. "Wait! Don't go!"
Robin stepped back onto the porch, steeling herself.
"I just wanted to say happy birthday…I know we're all getting together for a party tonight and everything but I just wanted to bring you something before…nevermind, it was stupid…" she turned to go again before the hand still wrapped around her hand stopped her. Nancy gave a gentle tug.
"Come in so I can put them in water?" She tugged again. "Please?"
Robin nodded, seemingly at a loss for words before following Nancy inside.
In the kitchen Robin stood looking at the giant bouquet of roses and lilies on the counter.
"Oh, those are beautiful, so much more…I mean…just somebody really has a crush on you, like, he must really like you."
Nancy paused where she was filling a vase with water looking over confused before laughing.
'Oh, no…not me. Those are my dad's apology flowers for forgetting their anniversary last night. I half expected you to be more flowers or maybe candy. It's been…uncomfortable around here to say the least today."
"Oh, haha…that's …okay…" Robin trailed off, looking embarrassed.
Nancy stepped close to the other girl.
"I do appreciate getting flowers from someone I have a crush on though…it let's me know they maybe feel the same way about me."
"Yeah, yeah of course. I mean, have you gotten flowers from the guy you're um…crushing on?" Robin babbled a bit, looking like a rabbit about to sprint away.
Nancy stepped in closer, Robin leaning back against the kitchen wall.
"Nope, no flowers from…any…guy…I'm crushing on…" she trailed off pointedly.
"Oh, well. That's a real bummer there Nance, maybe um…it's still early…"
The words were cut off as Nancy linked their hands together again and leaned in. Their lips hovered an inch apart.
Robin smelled faintly of floral, Nancy wondered if that was her perfume or lingering scent from the flowers she had brought. Their eyes met just before they closed the gap.
Robin's lips were the plush and sweet, tasting of her ever present strawberry lip gloss. Nancy couldn't help the tiny moan that escaped as she pressed in closer. Her tongue darted out to taste more. Robin opened to her, the kiss deepening. They finally pulled apart, both breathing heavily.
"Happy Birthday, Nancy." Robin murmured.
"Birthday wishes really do come true." Nancy grinned, leaning back in for more.
