My somebody to love has always been you

Summary:

Because of bad weather, Aubrey and Kim have to change plans. It was meant to be a date in the park, but maybe blasting Queen in Aubrey's room wasn't such a bad option either. They've always loved Queen. Just like they've always loved eachother.

Notes:

Hello people, I'm back! It's been months since I've posted ANYTHING here, summer has been wild and I had 0 motivation. But today I suddenly got enough inspiration and wrote this in two hours. Since I wrote 'your words are as sweet as cottoncandy' I couldn't get this type of scenario off my mind so I just had to try and see how it turned out. I'm not sure if I'm satisfied with it tho. As I said I rushed it, its pretty late here, and english is not my first language, so I apologice in advance for any grammar mistakes (feel free to correct me). Now, for warnings: mentions of bullying and queer trauma.
Enjoy! :)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

It was a dark, rainy day.

It wasnt meant to be one though. Kim and Aubrey had planned a wonderful date in the park (You know: stealing candy, holding hands, creating a little bit of chaos, sitting by the lake and smooching. The usual.)
But it seems like the weather had other plans for them. So, when the storm approched them, they had no other option than run to Aubrey's house to wait for the rain to stop.

Yet, here they are, laying on Aubrey's bed while raindrops slam hard against the cristal windows. The rain hasn't stopped in the whole day, wich has forced them to stay inside.
Kim is basically a walking radiator while Aubrey is always dead-cold, no matter the temperature outside, so Kim is now the big spoon trying to keep Aubrey warm. Plus, Aubrey is wearing Kim's favourite sweater (and not thinking of returning it anytime soon) and Kim a red short-sleeved shirt.

Kim braids, unbraids and plays with strings of Aubrey's (reciently dyed) pink hair. Meanwhile, Aubrey just scrolls through her Pinterest and listens to the beat of her girlfriend's heart. And she wishes that was the only thing she could hear, because the sound of the rain outside is a little too loud and she's getting tired of it.

Aubrey sighs.

Then, an idea comes to her mind. She opens her (premiun, but hacked) Spotify and gets up from the bed. Kim confused, asks her:

“What are you doing?”

A song starts playing and Aubrey puts the volume on max. Kim recognices it inmediately.

'Can

Anybody find me

somebody to love?'

'Of couse', thinks Kim, getting up to sit in the corner of her girlfriend's bed. There were lots of songs that held an emotional value for Kim and Aubrey, and this one was one of them. They played it all the time, it always reminded them both of the summer they became friends (time period when Kim started to catch feelings for Aubrey, but she was still in denial).

Aubrey bows and offers Kim her hand as she says:

“Kimberly, will you dance with me?”

Kim hated being addressed by her full name, mind you. But when it was Aubrey the one calling her that, it didn't sound so bad. So she nodded and took her girlfriend's hand, got up and said:

“There's nothing I would like more than that, Aubs.”

'That nickname sounds so silly' Aubrey thinks, she likes it, but still, she rolls her eyes trying to look annoyed. Kim knows she isn't, so she grabs her girlfriend by the waist and softly kisses her cheek.
Aubrey pouts, but pulls her girlfriend closer.

'Each morning I get up I die a little
Can barely stand on my feet
Take a look in the mirror and cry
Lord, what you're doing to me.'

“-I have spent all my years in believing you, but I just can't get a relief...- Aubrey sings as she puts her arms around Kim's neck- Somebody, ohh, somebody... can anybody find me somebody to love?”

Aubrey has a beautiful voice, that's why she's the lead singer of their band. Kim is the drummer and she's really good, some bands have offered her a lot of money to play with them. But she says she refuses to play with anyone that isn't the hooligans. The band is their most dear proyect, all of them participate and it means a lot because through the songs they write they're able to scream what they usually have to keep to themselves. It's their way of scaping it all, their confort, their own little revolution. And none of them would change that for anything.

“Everyday of my life I work til I ache my bones. At the end of the day I take home my hard-earned
pay all on my own.” Aubrey keeps singing and Kim is completely mesmerized by how talented her girlfriend is. Everytime she hears her sing or they play together she feels the same.

“Stop staring at me like that.” Says Aubrey as she lightly punches her girlfriend on the arm.

“Like what?” Kim grins playfully at her. “I'm not looking at you weird. How can you be embarassed now when you're able to sing in front of so many people at concerts, huh?”

“This is diferent! I actually care about what you think.”

“And you think I don't like your voice? You're great!”

Aubrey blushes lightly. She's weak when it comes to Kim's praise.

“I know you like it! It's just... its easy to sing my lungs out at concerts because I get a confidence boost from the adrenaline. And this is just a whole lot more... private.”

Kim smiles and pulls her girlfriend into a kiss. It's not demanding or intense, but soft. Soft and sweet.

'(He works had)
Everyday (everyday)
I try and I try and I try
But everybody wants to put me down
They say I'm going crazy
They say I got a lot of water in my brain
No, I got common sense.
(He's got)
Nobody left to believe.'

This is nice. This is more than just nice. Everytime they're with eachother they feel like the happiest versions of themselves. No matter what they're doing, talking or just cuddling in silence, vibing to their favourite songs together, eating so many candy until they get a sugar rush... It's all better when they're together. Aubrey hates thinking about the future, she thinks that no matter how many plans you make, fate will always twist your dreams and fuck everything up. After everything she's gone through, she decided to live by the rule 'whatever has to happen, will happen, you can't do anything about it, just keep on living' to stop worrying about things not going the way she wished . But at the same time, its hard for her to imagine a future where Kim isn't there. The way their bonds have become stronger over the years, how they've both grown as their relationship did... neither of them think its something thats going to end soon.

'Anybody find me somebody to love?
(Can anybody find me somebody to love?)'

Kim wonders how many times she thought she would die alone. How many times she thought she was this unlovable, disgusting being because they made her believe it. Kim was bullied in 5th grade by a group of girls that claimed she was 'a disgusting dyke' and 'a sinner', because she never fit into the traditionally femenine estereotype. She always told herself she didn't care about what they thought about her, but the harrasing was so consistent it did leave scars (wether she wants to admit it or not). And once you internalise those types of insults, its hard to let go of them. You torture yourself wondering whats wrong with you, why can't you just be normal. There was a part of her that wondered if she would ever find somebody to love, somebody like her, someone broken that could love her just the way she is. Oh if only she knew that person was the cheerfull girl with a pink bow that always sits in front of her in the school bus.

'Got no feel, I got no rhythm
I just keep losing my beat
(you just keep losing and losing)
I'm OK, I'm alright
(he's alright, he's alright)
I ain't gonna face no defeat (yeah, yeah)
I just gotta get out of this prison cell
One day (someday) I'm gonna be free, Lord '

As they keep eachother close and swing slowly with the rythm of the song, they can see a feeling reflected in eachothers eyes: they could never regret falling in love with eachother.

Notes:

(I'm starting to feel very tempted to write a whole Hooligans Band AU ...)
