Summary:

Daisuke and the rest of his unit plan to practice with two experienced idols to prepare for a joint show and come away with more questions than answers.

Notes:

Edit 9/30/22: ok im no longer an enstarrie since i recently realized i was in a pretty toxic friendship with the person who got me into the game so now enstars is just ruined for me. I'm really embarrassed of this fic but I don't wanna orphan or delete it so uh just keep that in mind if you keep reading!!

Original Notes:
guys… i have a confession to make…

i… im an enstarrie :(((

I started playing the game at the end of March. I’m an EveP because Taichi’s tri. & LEK voice actor plays Hiyori Tomoe. (head in hands) Funny thing is I actually became more of a JunP somehow lol.

Anyway this is me coping with the fact that I’m being queerbaited by a dumbass mobile rhythm game… by turning my favorite ship into the queerbaiters… hm. I didn’t think this one through. Oh well it’s already written! Enjoy this weird idol AU!

Work Text:

Daisuke opened the doors to the practice room, dressed and ready to go in his practice sweats. He gave the room a once over realizing he was the first to show. No worries. He would just play a game on his phone or mindlessly scroll social media until the rest showed.

As he sat down on the floor near the back wall, he thought to himself, I really hope those other guys don't show before the rest of my unit does.

To say he jinxed himself would be an understatement. For as if right on cue, the door flung open and in walked a boy a few years his senior with tan skin and loud hair.

Taichi Yagami. A popular figure in the idol industry, he was known for his cheerful, high singing voice. His attitude matched his voice as he always seemed upbeat and full of energy.

Funnily enough, Daisuke briefly met Taichi before either of them decided to be idols, as they both played soccer as children. When they'd met earlier, Taichi seemed to remember Daisuke, which honestly made him less afraid of working with the guy. However, Taichi's big personality still intimidated him a little bit.

"Oh, Daisuke! Right on time it seems," Taichi greeted. "Where's your other unit members?"

"Not sure. They'll be here soon, though," Daisuke replied. He then smirked teasingly as he asked, "Where's your better half?"

Ignoring the hit to his ego, Taichi said, "He'll be here soon. I see you're eager to get started, huh?"

Taichi and his partner were assigned to practice with Daisuke's unit since they had a show coming up together. Given the older two's experience, they would act as mentors to the younger idols as they learned their routine together.

"Yep! I've been practicing. I wanna make a good impression given your status and all that," Daisuke smiled. He was determined to impress the idols with his abilities despite being a newcomer. Luckily, playing soccer when he was younger meant he was agile and light on his feet. This helped a ton when it came to dancing. He considered his singing somewhat of a work in progress, however he wouldn't let that deter him.

"Mm, I can't wait," said Taichi with a smile of his own.

A few minutes later, the door opened and in walked the other three they were expecting.

"Yama! How long were you planning on keeping me waiting here?" Taichi yelled as soon as the blond walked into the room, ignoring the other two behind him.

"Calm down, would you?" Yamato replied. "Besides, you're the one who always gets easily distracted, leaving me to find where you've wandered to in order to get you back on track."

Yamato Ishida was a bit of a stark contrast to Taichi, having a cool demeanor and lower voice. Daisuke had never met Yamato before meeting up with the others to discuss working together, but he definitely faintly remembered Taichi talking about Yamato during their soccer days.

The other two, Daisuke's unit members, approached Daisuke.

"These two are supposed to be mentoring us?" Miyako said. She was a girl with a fierce personality and beautiful singing voice to match. She and Daisuke often clashed, but were great friends nonetheless.

"They may be like this behind the scenes, but they're really good on stage," Ken said. He was a taller boy who was a bit calmer with a soft voice. He'd been a bit of a tough nut to crack, but Daisuke could count on Ken.

"Yeah, don't be too worried, Miyako," Daisuke said as he put a hand on the girl's shoulder. "Taichi's a good leader. He's gonna do great."

"If you say so," agreed Miyako.

"Okay, you three," Taichi said. "To start, Yamato and I figured it would be good to perform one of our songs for you so you can study us."

"It'll show you what we'll bring to the table for our joint show," Yamato explained. "Maybe you'll pick up a few things here and there, too."

"Sounds great!" Daisuke exclaimed.

"Could one of you get the music while we get into position? It should already be loaded up on the stereo," asked Taichi.

"I got it," Ken replied, walking to the stereo as the two older boys took their places. Ken flipped on the music and walked back to his unit mates to watch.

The music that began to play was a very upbeat, jazzy tune. Daisuke hadn't heard this song of theirs before, so he watched intently as Taichi and Yamato danced together in perfect sync. Before long, Taichi sang the first lyric of the song.

Looking in the mirror as always, you don’t notice a thing
Innocently suspecting nothing of this sleepy world

Daisuke watched in awe. He'd seen videos of the two performing before, but watching it live was a whole new experience. He figured Miyako and Ken were having similar feelings, both paying attention as the two singing exchanged lines.

This trap is here
All because of you
I saw that desire in your eyes
Once the sweet poison
Runs its course
Before you know it, it's all too late

Daisuke couldn't imagine singing such a sensual song, much less to one of his unit mates. He couldn't imagine doing the choreography either, getting all close and personal the way they were. He admired the way Taichi and Yamato seemed to do it with ease as they sang and danced to the chorus of the song.

The three continued to watch the older idols dance. The two were incredibly skilled, never missing a beat with their words or movements. Daisuke in particular took note of little things they did such as winking to the audience and other gestures that were sure to send fangirls into a frenzy. He'd have to try that sometime.

As Taichi and Yamato got to the bridge of the song, things seemed to slow down a bit. The moves between them started to get more intimate, though the three younger idols could have never predicted what was about to happen.

Taichi and Yamato were looking at each other, Yamato's arm held in Taichi's hand, and as the two sang the words "Come now, show me your love" , Taichi dropped Yamato's arm to instead grab his shoulder. He then pulled Yamato close as Yamato's arm went to hold Taichi's waist. Before Daisuke knew it, the two shared a quick kiss. It went as quickly as it came and after they had pulled apart, Daisuke swore he saw Yamato lick his lips before the two went back to singing and dancing to the rest of the song.

Daisuke looked between Miyako and Ken to make sure he hadn't imagined everything he'd just seen. The two had also looked to him in a way that confirmed everything that they saw did happen.

As the song came to a close, the three younger idols had no idea what to think. Before anyone could say anything, Daisuke asked the question on everyone's minds.

"So, are you two, like, boyfriends or something?"

"Daisuke!" Miyako chided. "Have a little tact."

"They literally kissed in front of us! What do you mean 'tact'?"

"Calm down, you two," Ken tried getting them to stop, always the mediator for those two.

Taichi just started laughing and Yamato snorted. The other three immediately stopped what they were doing to look at their mentors.

"Of course not!" Taichi answered. "Oh, this is hilarious!"

Daisuke, Miyako, and Ken were too confused to speak. So, Yamato continued.

"It's an act," Yamato explained, "to make the fans go crazy with speculation. We don't confirm the status of our relationship, but drop enough hints to keep them on edge. It helps keep us relevant."

"What?" Daisuke said. "But you—"

"You didn't think that was real, did you?" Taichi asked. "I guess that means it's good enough to fool the fans."

"Yeah, it'd take a lot to get me to kiss this guy," Yamato joked.

"Oh, come on Yama," Taichi put his arms around Yamato's waist while leaning his head on the blond's shoulder. "Kissing me for real wouldn't be that bad~"

Yamato smirked, putting his own arm around the other. "In your dreams, Taichi."

"What the hell are we watching?" Daisuke was so confused.

"What if the act isn't as much of an act as they say it is?" Miyako questioned.

"Maybe it's just working on us more than it should," Ken replied.

"Why would they be trying to bait us though?" Daisuke wondered.

"Anyway," Taichi let go of Yamato and turned his attention back to the rest of the idols, "now that you've seen us perform, it's time to show us what you've got!"

"Yeah, perform one of your songs for us," Yamato agreed.

As Daisuke walked to get in position with the rest of his unit, he couldn't help but think this would be a wild day.

Notes:

im sorry

Trap for You gave me so much brain damage. I started writing this when the stage play video thing was released so that’s what it’s based on. And I’m writing this note after the MV release in Music and my god I’ve gone mad. I’ve played it 10 times already.

Ok anyway you know the drill. Twitter @DigitalMaeMae for my ramblings. Thanks for reading this fanfic I’m gonna go cry now.
