”Hey wait up Shintaro! I gave you a ride, the least you can do is walk with me!" Takao quickly parked his bike connected to a large wagon that was used to carry Midorima to their destination.
It's Sunday, a bright spring morning with a nice breeze. Midorima and Takao always hungout with eachother on sundays, whether to play basketball, eat out, or in today's case, just walk in the park. Although Takao considered them two as friends, it was painfully obvious Midorima would rather break his lucky item than admit he was friends with an "Idiotic baboon like him." Or so he says.
"I wait for nobody, I simply go at my own pace." Midorima continues walking, not looking back.
"Hah okay then I guess you don't want your lucky item for the day..." He shouts out loud challenging Midorima to look back at him.
Reluctant to do so, he stopped and shot a glare back at Takao who was slowly walking up to him now, holding what seems to be a jar of dried rice.
"Ah see? Was that so hard Shin-" He was interrupted with a swipe of the glass jar from his hand.
"Shut it Takao."
The two continued to walk side by side in a comfortable silence when Takao broke the peace.
"Hey, so I thought you couldn't make it this week because you felt fatigued, you are okay now?"
"I am alright, I woke up this morning to find today is a great day for cancers to be outside, so I made the decision to tag along."
"Really? Or did you just want to see your best friend that bad heehee." The dark haired boy looked up at Midorima with puppy dog eyes.
As he felt Takao look up at him he tensed up a bit, knowing far too well what that look was.
"Don't flatter yourself, you are no more than a free ride." He darted his eyes to the opposite direction and pushed up his glasses.
"Hey hey woah, who said it was free man! I gave you a ride and went out of my way to buy you the rice, I expect payment!" He pouted playfully.
"Fine..." He looked around the scenery of the park for a moment and caught a glimpse of an icecream truck in the distance.
"...Would you like some icecream."
Takao's face lit up and felt his heart rate speed up, although that might not just be from the thought of icecream that made him happy.
"Yes yes a thousand times yes!" He dramatically grasped onto the taller guy who was caught off guard and almost toppled over.
"Get off of me and stop being weird, let's just go before the line gets long." Evidently there was no one in line for icecream. He gently pushing the shorter one off of him to regain his balance.
After Takao got his favorite, strawberry icecream with a waffle cone, they decided to sit down on a bench in the shade.
"Mmm this is so good for the weather, are you sure you didn't want anything Shin-chan?"
"No, I can make do without the extra sugar."
"Suit yourself dude~" He said with a face full of icecream looking happy as ever.
"Ugh could you be much more of a pig." Midorima remarks as he noticed Takao's entire mouth and chin was covered in pink.
"Huh?" Takao looks up at Midorima who was sitting a respectable distance from him with the glass jar of rice sitting in between them.
"Ew don't talk with your mouth full of waffle cone...here." He reached into his pocket and took out a white hankercheif. He leans and extends his hand to Takao's face who is too distracted by the melting icecream and wipes the mess off of the side of his mouth.
Caught off guard by this, Takao turns his head to face Midorima who almost immediately turned away the second they made eye contact, feeling his heart skip a beat.
"Learn to eat like a normal human being." He sat up turning to look out at the scenery of the peaceful park. Still reaching his arm out he purposefully dropped the hankercheif onto Takao's lap.
Takao could feel the blood rushing to his face, he knew he looked red. He finished his remaining cone and wiped the rest of his face with the hanky to compose himself.
"Thanks." Takao said turning his head to face the green eyed boy sitting across the bench, admiring the view.
"For what? It is common courtesy to offer a hankercheif to someone as messy as you." He remained still, looking ahead to avoid eye contact. He would die before admitting he got flustered over a trivial matter like that.
"Well not only for the hanky, um, for hanging out with me today Shin-chan!" His grey eyes squinted as he smiled genuinely.
"Whatever." He said as he took a glimpse at the smiling boy sitting next to him, suppressing the crease at the corner of his mouth to avoid smiling back.
For a moment Takao caught a glimpse of Midorima having the tiniest hint of a smile on his face, he stopped his thoughts to notice the scene next to him.
The shade under the tree casting hints of the sun onto his face as he looked out in the distance not saying a word, the wind blowing in his sage green hair as he adjusted his glasses to shield his eyes from the breeze. His chest rising a falling at a calm pattern as he sat with his back straight against the wooden bench. Midorima almost looked...handsome, in that nature.
Takao always seemed to catch these rare sightings once in a while. Midorima not being his usual condescending self, talking down on anyone, or expressing his witty remarks. He enjoyed this side of Midorima the best, when his presence was, calm. Wow...
"Hey Shintarou." Takao broke the silence making sure not to talk too loud.
"Yes Kazunari-kun?"
Midorima stared back at him in the eyes, Takao paused for a moment staring at him not knowing what to say, his mind went almost blank. He for sure thought his heart had completely stopped in that instant. Woah, he almost never calls me by my first name!
"Nothing, nevermind, sorry." Now Takao was the one who broke the eye contact as he stood up quickly and stretched his arms.
Midorima surprised himself, of course Takao had told him in the past to call him by his first name but he neglected to do so and forgot about it.
For once, Midorima was at a loss for words, back to that moment, that look on his face, he really thought Takao was going to say something sincere for once but of course that seemed to not be the case. He sat there a bit disappointed trying not to portray any more emotion on his face.
"So you haven't been practicing basketball in a while since your not quite in shape right?." Takao thankfully broke the awkward silence.
"What does my shape have to do with anything you moron." He crossed his arms glaring up at Takao's deep grey eyes.
"Well you might as well get in some physical activity today-" In the blink of an eye Takao lunged forward grabbing Midorima's lucky item from the bench and suddenly sprinted away.
"What- hey! Give that back Takao!" He shouted standing up from his position on the bench.
"Take it from me coward!!" He yelled not looked back taunting the jar of dried rice in the air.
"I'm serious Takao get back here, you are so childish I swear- stop messing around!"
At that moment Midorima found his feet dashing forward to chase him, feeling his heart race and the wind in his face, as his legs took over going full speed ahead to catch up to the childish teenager with a jar of dried rice in hand. He even caught himself smiling a little as he pushed his glasses up his nose.
What in the world is this feeling? You are truly an idiot Takao. He chuckled to himself.
