Frustrating Day

Summary:

After having an extremely frustrating day at work, all you want to do is curl up on the couch and cry, maybe even hit the throw pillow a bit. Moon, hearing your distress, comes to make the situation a little bit better.

Notes:

I feel like we've all had an extremely frustrating day once in a while and wished someone was there to comfort us, this fic was born from that.

Work Text:

You'd had an extremely frustrating day, filled with one setback after another, and by the time you got home, you were feeling drained, angry, and defeated. You were so frustrated that you genuinely wanted to shove your face into the pillow you'd bought just the other day and scream at the top of your lungs.

You drop your heavy, overstuffed work bag by the door before throwing yourself onto the soft, well-worn couch in the living room and setting your phone to silent, letting out a deep groan as you press the soft part of your palms into your tired eyes.

It wasn't more than a few minutes before the distinct, gentle ring of bells began to approach the couch, and before you knew it, you were being carefully scooped into Moon's cool and comforting lap.

He thankfully didn't pry or ask you what was wrong, but he did show his support by running his hand through your hair. Pressing a soft, gentle kiss to your forehead as he settled into the couch, being careful not to disturb you as he turned the television on to your favorite show. He wrapped his strong, comforting arms around you as you finally let the tears fall, burying your face in his chest as he held you tight.

You didn't realize how much you needed this, until Moon did it. Moon made you feel understood, seen, and heard. They made you feel like your thoughts and feelings mattered. Moon made you feel like you were worth their time and energy.

Even when you're both silent and the only thing you can hear is the sound of your own breathing, it feels like a thousand words are being exchanged between the two of you. You don't need words to communicate- you can feel the love and understanding pass between you as if it were an invisible current.

Finally, your sobs settled and you quietly hiccupped into the fabric of the worn, starry shirt you'd given Moon. You felt the fabric brush against your skin, and the sensation was strangely comforting. The cotton was soft and worn in all the right places, and you could still see the faintest remnants of the detergent he used. It faintly smelled of warm, fragrant Lavender, with hints of sweet, brown sugar and vanilla.

He gently brought a finger under your chin, using it to tilt your head up so he could run his thumbs along your cheeks. He was very cautious not to overdo it, but still the smooth, cool metal against your skin was grounding and felt heavenly against your heated skin.

As you both sat there, watching the TV in silence, your eyes began to drift shut. Your head rested gently against Moons chest as he held you gently; the soft, mechanical clicking of his internal workings seemed to remind you of a clock. You started to doze off, and your last conscious thought was of the clock ticking away in Moons chest.

Moon gently looked down at you with warm, red eyes as he moved to stand, adjusting you in his strong arms as he carried you to bed. You pressed closer to him as he laid you down in bed, your body nestling close to his.

He couldn't help but let out a soft, quiet chuckle as he slowly pulled the warm, soft blanket over the two of you, pressing a soft, gentle kiss to your forehead as he closed his eyes to rest with you. The soothing warmth of the blanket seeped into your skin and made you feel safe and warm in his arms. You felt like you could finally relax and let go, and you drifted off to sleep with a smile on your face.
