Chapter Text

Chapter 1

Steve like most people his age was having trouble finding direction in life; only made more severe by the fact that he knew that he was capable of helping save the world, but it's not like he could do that for the rest of his life!?!? Steve started to stare off into space until Robin smacked his arm.

-"Hey, dingus!" You know you're supposed to actually work while you are here right?"Robin snorted

-"Oh! Sorry! I was just a little distracted..." Steve trailed off

-"Okay. Fine...spill it. You're not going to be of any use to me until we get whatever your dealing with situated ASAP"

-"I don't know..it's just difficult  trying to figure out the future! I mean with the amount of times we've had to save it...it's kind of hard getting back to 'normal' and actually living in the moment" Steve sighed.

-"I know, but you just gotta roll with it. You can't just live your life waiting for the next disaster to happen"

The bell for the front door rang before Steve could think of another word to say. It was Eddie Munson; dressed in his usual attire of a hellfire club tee shirt, leather jacket, and a denim vest with buttons and patches plastered on the front. He brought with him some movies that he had rented.

-"You finally decide to bring them back on time" Steve teased.

-"At least I bring them back! I cannot tell you how long I have been waiting for Alien to be back in stock."Eddie sighed.

He walked up to the counter and rested his chin on his hand. He could tell Steve looked upset, because he didn't have the usual award winning smile plastered on his face, and also because he usually had a lot more to say to the long haired boy. Eddie dropped his usual playful act.

-"Steve, what's wrong?"

-"I'm not even sure...It just feels like after all we've been through we kind of skipped some of the whole 'growing up' and figuring shit out" Steve mumbled.

-"Dude...you're acting like you are on your deathbed" Eddie laughed. "And even if you were that doesn't mean that life is over yet"

-"Yeah, you still have tons of time to make even more mistakes" Robin added; whilst trying to hold back a laugh.

Steve knew they were right; he hoped that Robin was wrong that he would make a lot more mistakes, because for his sake it would much more preferable if he did not. He still had a life to live, and here he was, wallowing about what he missed out on.  He decided he needed to change things up, and get out of his comfort zone.

-"You're both right." Steve whispered.

-"Yeah, it's seldom that I'm not" Robin added.

-"On that note...there is actually another reason why I decided to drop by today" Eddie interrupted. "I was wondering if you two would like to come and see my band perform tonight?"

Normally, Steve would say no. Normally he would go home and go to sleep, and or even take the kids to see some movie or drive them to Mike's house to play D&D, but instead he decided that he would go against the grain of his normal routine.

-"Of course" Steve exclaimed.

Eddie and Robin both looked surprised at his enthusiasm to the invite.

-"I'm sorry I cannot make it" Robin sighed. "I have to help my parents with clearing out the basement, and I need to make sure they don't get rid of any of my shit"

-"It's all good" Eddie added. "I'm just glad I'll see at least one familiar face in the crowd". Eddie grinned so wide that you could almost see all of his teeth.

Steve didn't realize how adorable Eddie's smile was until that moment; his face started to turn bright pink at the thought. Before Robin or Eddie noticed the now bright pink faced Steve, Eddie was starting to leave. Eddie left a flyer with the time and location on the counter.

-"See you tonight, Stevie" Eddie winked which made Steves face seem to glow.

After that there was not many customers that came into family video. So Robin and Steve mostly just spent the rest of the afternoon re-shelving and organizing movies. It felt like it was most customers hobby to put the movies back not only on the wrong shelf, but in the wrong section of the store entirely. When they were done with work they closed up and Steve took Robin home. He had only two hours before he had to leave to make it to Eddie's concert.

As soon as he got home he decided to shower, which made him have to re-do his hair. He then went to his closet, and realized he didn't have anything that seemed appropriate for a rock concert. It took him 10 minutes of contemplation before he decided that he'll make the best of his situation and wear blue jeans and his favorite sweater; it may not be 'punk rock' or scream "I'm here to party", but it was his favorite, and going to Eddie's concert was already going out out of his comfort zone enough for one night.

Steve left about 30 minutes before the concert was to start because he wanted to make sure he got a good seat. It was held at a medium sized cafe that had grown pretty popular among the residents of Hawkins. When he arrived he noticed that there was a stand in the back that had some merchandise such as: t-shirts, hoodies, cassettes, and some pins; they all donned the bands name 'Corroded Coffin' in scratchy lettering. Steve decided he would show some support and buy a shirt, but before he could there was one being tossed at the back of his head.

-"Think of it as a present for showing up" Eddie laughed.

-"Come on dude, you can't just give this to me!" Steve exclaimed

-"I insist if you want to stay and watch the show" Eddie sneered with a wicked grin.

-"Fine...fine"  Steve surrendered. "But! I am going to buy one of your cassettes" Steve interjected.

One of Eddie's bandmates called him to the back to finish setting up for their set. They were going to be the main headline tonight, which was an extreme honor for them.  Steve decided to put on the T-shirt on over his sweater, he felt like he fit in with the group of metal heads who came to watch Eddie's band. He shoved the cassette into his front pocket and found a seat up in the front.

At the same time Eddie was in the back getting ready. He did not know why, but for some reason he was nervous. He had probably done live concerts a hundred times or more, but yet he felt like he was performing for the first time. He wanted it to be perfect.
