“I am so bored.” Sukjoo complained. They had been on top of this storage crate since the sun rose, and they could count the stars in the sky. Ijin was feeling a little fidgety either way, and rolled onto his side to look at Sukjoo, his good friend and partner on this mission. They were both here to watch for a drug deal that had either been moved or canceled, because it was supposed to happen three hours ago. But the stakeout protocol stated that they stayed there for the next twenty-four hours as well, just in case the thing they were looking for happened to get moved by just a few hours, or other information presented itself.
So Ijin had busted out his sleeping bag, and was warmly wrapped in it. He wasn’t going to actually sleep that night, but it would help keep him warm.. Since both boys were only responsible for themselves on this mission, Sukjoo hadn’t packed one, he hadn’t anticipated having to stay overnight. Ijin had offered to share, but Sukjoo turned him down instantly. Now, as the night crawled forward, the temperature only dropped, and the black haired boy was shivering in his boots.
“Why won’t you just share with me?” Ijin asked, looking Sukjoo in the eyes.
“I’m not cold.”
“You’re shivering. Just-” Ijin shuffled to the very left side of his sleeping bag. “-get in. Get in or give me one legitimate reason why you won’t. Just one good, solid reason and I’ll drop it.”
“Because...” Sukjoo hesitated. Ijin crooked his eyebrow, which only caused the other boy to become more flustered.
“I’m waiting.”
“I have...lice!” The black haired boy finally came to that conclusion, after an uncomfortably long hesitation. Ijin sighed loudly, rolling his eyes oustaintaciously. Sukjoo scoffed at the other’s obvious display of disbelief.
“No, you don’t. You would’ve reported it if you did, you’re not that desperate to go on missions with me.”
“That’s right. Wait- no, no it’s not.”
“Is it now?”
“Your assessment is incorrect!”
Ijin raised one of his eyebrows and smirked at the other. Sukjoo was blushing, Ijin could tell. Even in this almost pitch black darkness that had fallen upon them. Ijin couldn’t make out too much of the other’s face, but he could tell that he was desperately trying to cover up any trace of embarrassment. Ijin reached up to place the back of his hand on Sukjoo’s forehead, testing for a fever. Ijin sighed and pulled his hand back, making eye contact with the black haired boy.
“Then what is it? You’re not sick, I’m not sick, and I can’t see any other reason why you wouldn’t suck it up and get in here, you’re freezing cold. Unless...”
“Unless what? I like you and I’m too scared to admit it?!”
The pair fell silent as Sukjoo realized what he had just said, clapping his hand over his mouth. They stared at each other in dead quiet as a second passed. Then a second, third, thirty
seconds, a minute, two minutes, then five. Not a single word broke the deafening silence that swirled around them, and neither moved an inch. Sukjoo was paralyzed with fear, and Ijin with complete and utter shock. The night wind ruffled between them, wrapping around their bodies and trying to coax words from their sealed lips.
Ijin finally spoke after a six and a half minute silence.
“That's not what I was going to say next, but I must admit,” He sat up to better look at the other. “It’s a welcome surprise. Unfortunately, I owe Yuna ₩500. (0.38 USD) We bet that I
would confess first.” Ijin sighed.
Sukjoo stared at the other for only a single moment before he surged forward, catching Ijin’s lips in his. Ijin, who was caught off guard, only took half a second to kiss him back. The kiss was as gentle as the night wind that swirled around them once more, urging the two together. This softness didn’t last long as Sukjoo’s hands buried themselves into Ijin’s soft gray hair, pulling the taller boy closer. They broke apart to breathe for a moment. Sukjoo looked over into Ijin’s eyes, his pupils blown wide.
“Scoot over and let me in your sleeping bag.” Sukjoo hissed. “It’s cold out here.”
