Chapter Text

As Izuku walked up the stairs of the school, he thought of what Katsuki had said to him.

"Just pray you'll be born with a quirk in your next life, and take a swan dive off the roof of the building!"

And so, that's what he was going to do. His mother had already left him, and now it was his time to join her.

It's not like anyone will care at this point… heck, Kachan would laugh and cheer that useless little Deku was finally gone.

Now he was finally on the roof of his school. Oh great, there's no fence… yet. I wonder if the teachers will use my death as some sort of sob story…

Probably not, I don't matter enough for that to happen.

As he got to the edge, he saw Katsuki talking to his friends(?) loudly. Hmm, that would be fun… yeah… Now he'll know that I didn't just disappear, because I doubt the news will talk about me.

As he smiled widely, he pushed himself off the building.

"I'm coming mom, just you wait."

Katsuki was talking to his lackeys about his latest stunt. "Did you see the look on his face!?" Long fingers said. "Haha, yeah! He looked like a pitiful baby! That was great Bakugo!"

"I know that, extra! Stop spitting obvious facts at me!" He yelled back.

"Ok, ok! But did you mean what you said? About him jumping?"

This made Katsuki pause. Had he meant that? He wasn't sure.

"Well of cou-"

He felt a shiver run down his spine as he turned to see what the cause of that… sound was. He felt like death as he took in the scene.

It was Deku… in a pool of his own blood. The worst part… was that he was wearing the biggest smile he'd seen on Deku, with such a dead look in his eyes.

__________

Izuku woke up with a gasp, shooting up immediately. He sat there for a second, needing to take in as much air as he could.

He felt cold, especially in his lower half. As he looked down, he gasped. Not only was he completely naked, but he also had a brand new Y-shaped scar on his chest! How did that get there?!? How did I get here?!?

With that thought, he looked around to try and get an idea of what was going on. He was in a gray room with cabinets across one wall, and metal double doors on another. There was a window near the cabinets too. There was a metal table, which he was on, in the middle of the room, with a small table with a clipboard on top.

He grabbed the clipboard to try and get information, only to realize where he was. He was in a morgue.

Apparently, his plan to kill himself didn't exactly work. But how? He'll figure that out later. For now, he needs to get out before someone finds the zombie kid roaming around.

He got off the table, taking the cloth that was on him. He wrapped it around his shoulders, then to his front, to hide his body.

He looked in all the cabinets, eventually finding some spare scrubs. He put those on and then some slip-on shoes he found.

Ok, time to get out of here. He went over to the window and climbed onto the cabinets to try and get out. It wasn't hard to open and get through it.

Now he just had to get back to his foster ho- oh, wait. He can't go back there, they think he's dead. Now where am I supposed to go? I have nothing and no wher- OH CRAP THAT'S MY TEACHER!

Izuku quickly slipped into an alleyway. He was leaving a restaurant with a woman, probably his wife. They were talking about something.

"-h yeah, I did hear about that. He committed…suicide… right?" "Yeah, he did. Jumped right off the building. Now we have to put fences up." ''That sucks! Do you know what they did with his belongings?" "I think they gave it to his foster family for 'sentimental purposes' or whatever." "Oh, that's quite swe-"

His foster family? Uggghhh how am I supposed to get my stuff? I guess I could break in? But that's illegal. Well, so is being legally dead while actually alive I guess…

__________

About an hour later, he was outside his old foster family's apartment complex.

I can't believe I'm doing this, what if I get caught? Can they put me in jail? Can you put a dead person in jail? Mmmmmm… I'm going in!

He went around to the fire escape and started going up to the window. There, he got in and started for the kitchen. When he got there, he saw all of his belongings in a pile. Yeah, 'sentimental' my ass.

When he turned around to get trash bags, he was met with tired eyes and gravity-defying purple hair. He made a squeak of surprise, then immediately turned to look at the foster parents’ door.

After confirming they hadn't woken up, Izuku turned back to the person in front of him. "Uh… hi?" He said.

"Hi, I'd be interested to know what you're doing in this house." He stated.

Instead of asking? Whatever, later. "Uh, yeah, I'm just here to take my stuff." Izuku points at the pile.

The guy raised an eyebrow. "This is that dead kids stuff. Seems kinda stupid to take worthless stuff."

"Uh, rude much? This is my stuff, and it isn't worthless, you don't know the stories."

This seemed to shock the guy. "You say that as if you're the dead kid."

"Ooo… ahh… do IIII? Mmm that's strange…" I really need to work on my lying skills.

"You're the dead kid?!"

"Mmmaybe… Please don't tell anyone?” Izuku pleaded.

The guy sputters. "Uh- Um sure"

"Cool, what's your name? How'd you know I was dead?"

"Oh, my name is Shinso…" He seemed sad while saying that. "And I knew cause they told me." Shinso points at the bedroom door.

"Oh ok," Izuku responded. "Well, do you want to help me pack?"

"Oh- uh sure, but I was gonna eat first." He says.

Izuku's stomach rumbled. "I could use some food too…" he mumbled.

"You can have some." Shinso offers.

"Oh thank you!"

__________

As they ate in silence, Izuku decided to break the ice. "So, what's your quirk?"

It was a normal question that people used all the time, but it seemed to bother Shinso. After a minute of silence, He decided to try again.

"I bet it's something to do with you asking questions right? And a mental quirk too." Shinso choked on his food for a second before turning to Izuku.

"What, How did you know!" He whisper-shouted.

"Uh, I don't know, I guess I'm just really good at analysis?" Izuku put his hands up in surrender.

Shinso sighed and turned back to his food "Well, I guess I'd better tell you since you know most of it already."

"My quirk is Brainwash, if anyone responds to a question verbally, I can take control of their mind. Everyone always says it's a villainous quirk…"

Izuku thought for a moment. "Well, I think everyone is wrong. A quirk doesn't make a person, you do."

__________

Water dripped onto his hand. Why? Was there a leak in the ceiling? "Oh no, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to make you cry!" Cry? Was he crying?

Shinso reached up to feel his face and sure enough, he felt moisture. "It's ok, I didn't know I was crying anyway…"

__________

When they were finally done with the bags, Shinso followed Izuku to the window.

"Hey,"

"Hey?"

"I um- thank you for saying what you did earlier… no one's ever really done that for me."

Izuku stared at him sadly. He needed to help him. "Hey, could I have your number?"

"What?"

"I want to make this phone untraceable,” He said as he held his phone up, ”so I need a new number. Mainly cause this is a dead kids number."

"Oh, uh, sure!" Shinso raced off to write his number down. He returned a minute later with a small paper in his hands.

“Thanks. I’m going to text you when I can so that you have my number too!”

He nodded in response.

“If you ever need somebody to talk to, you can always call or text me. I probably won’t be busy, considering I’m ‘dead’ and all. Well, have a good one Shinso, I hope to see you again! Byeeee!”

And with that he was off down the fire escape with his belongings, and possibly a new friend.

Notes:

So, that's the first chapter! It's a bit short, I know. I need to figure out the timeline and stuff, so don't expect many updates soon(unless I decide to go on a working spree)
