Work Text:
It was really crowded walking through the streets, since it was carnival time and lots of stalls for food and games and entertainment were set. Jordie carried little Kaz on his shoulders so that he could not get lost.
“THE MAGICIAN IS OVER THERE!!!” shouted Kaz, pointing the finger towards were people were crowded.
“Yeah kiddo we’ll go everywhere but first lets get something to eat.” replied Jordie
They got themselves some chips and fries and Kaz ran towards the crowd who had gathered around the magician. Due to his short height he was not able to see the magic and the crowd was not moving. Jordie came running behind him and put kaz on his shoulder. He saw the magician pulling out a rabbit from the hat which was empty a while ago, birds appearing just with a flick of his wand. Kaz tried his best to find the trick behind the magic and said to Jordie, “That was an illusion, he had a secret place in that hat were he had hidden the rabbit and it was not visible to the audience, i can do this easily” kaz said excitedly.
“Ok ok Kaz. How about we start a circus with the money we will be getting from the profit of our share with Mr. Hertzoon. And you can be the most mysterious magician, sound great isn’t it” replied Jordie.
“No trick like this has ever been attempted before,” Kaz heard someone announcing, “and certainly never by one so young! Above you, behold the terrifying high wire.” Kaz turned towards the sound and squinted his eyes to see clearly. All he saw was two poles of about 15 feet tall, standing straight and a thin wire, barely visible from distance.
“Trying to walk across something so slender, so fragile as that! Who would dare such a thing? Who would dare to defy death itself?” He heard gasps and muttering from people surrounded there and he screamed at Jordie’s ear, “LET’S GO THERE, NOW!!!” With exciting look on his brother’s face, Jordie, along with Kaz on his shoulder, ran towards the place as Kaz instructed.
“I will!” said the little girl standing on top of the pole, hands on her hips. Kaz’s eye widened seeing the girl standing so fearlessly on the pole so high. He again heard the crowd’s panicked voices and gasps and someone shouting to stop the show. Kaz was curiously waiting to know what would happen. He could feel his heart beating rapidly. He kept his eyes firmly on her thinking that if he misses one blink, she might fall.
The girl walked through the wire as if she’s walking around her backyard. The crowd went still, if he was being honest, the whole carnival went silent, looking at the same moment he was seeing.
With every step, his heart beated louder. And finally when she reached the other pole, she jumped like a bird and landed easily as a feather. The crowd cheered and applauded. Kaz felt happy and cheered along the crowd. He saw the girl bowing and her smile so pure and sweet, her dark eyes filled with pride and happiness, her black hair braided with small flowers in between, her bronze skin shining with the sunlight.
That was the most magical moment he had ever seen.
