Work Text:
It's morning, and Kaede is the one who waked up early to make breakfast. Strangely, she thought that her boyfriend, Shuichi, would wake up first.
But guess this time not.
As she made her way to the kitchen, she started to make her favourite breakfast since she was little; pancakes. It was Shuichi's favourite too.
After a few minutes, she finished making pancakes. She was really proud of herself, so she went to her boyfriend's room, slowly opening the door to wake him up.
"Hey, Shu~" Kaede soflty called Shuichi, as he wakes up slowly and yawns.
"Mmmh...good morning, sweetheart." He mumbled. Kaede smiled softly.
"Guess what I made today!" She said, holding her hands together on her chest.
Shuichi thought of a second. "Let me guess...pancakes, correct?"
"Why of course, dear!" She said happily. "I'll wait you in the kitchen, okay?" Shuichi nodded, and Kaede joyfully made her way to the kitchen, and waited.
After Shuichi went to make his needs, he went to the kitchen, pulled a chair, and grabbed a plate of pancakes with syrup put on. He seemed surprised, yet thoughtful of something. Kaede chuckled. "I know, I know...it's one of your favourites!" Shuichi smiled as he ate a piece of the pancake.
Kaede always wanted to make people happy, mostly for her boyfriend and her friends. She felt so proud, that her heart beats fast. She started to eat a piece of her pancake too.
But something was off. She gazed at Shuichi, eating thoughtfully. Wonder what's wrong with him? Perhaps he was thinking of something. Something...something.
She understands that he has depression and all that, but this time he's kind of...strange. She told him often that if he needs something, or if something's wrong, she said that she's always there for him.
I mean, sure, they were a couple for 3 years now, everything was fine, there were rarely arguments, but not too much, and that's also fine. But Shuichi...is he fine? Or not? Kaede is sometimes worried about him, since that awful killing game existed, no longer though.
As Shuichi finished his breakfast he stood up. "I'm going im my room." He said, soflty. "Also, good pancakes, dear." He said, smiling weakly at Kaede.
Kaede stood up too and grabbed his arm. Shuichi turned to his girlfriend. "W-what's wrong, Kaede..?"
"You seem kinda...thoughtful." She said, a little worried.
"Are you alright? If you need help, I'm always there for you."
Shuichi sighed. "I'm fine...just a little sleepy, that's all."
Then, he went in his bedroom. Kaede was still worried about him. She began to ask herself.
Why doesn't he want to talk about "it"?
The "it" was his depression. He didn't want to mention it, since it's so...depressing. Kaede sit on her chair, playing with her piece of pancake on her plate.
"Why is he so mute when it comes to his feelings?" She thought. "I want to make everything fine and happy, bit him...what about him?" She thought sadly as she stood up, making her way to Shuichi's bedroom.
He was sitting there, over the edge of the bed, thinking.
Kaede goes slowly to his bedroom. "Hey, Shu..."
She called him, but weakly this time. Shuichi gazes to his worried girlfriend.
"Hey, Kaede..." He said, then turns gazing down at the floor, like he was in prison. Kaede goes to the edge of the bed, stitting next to him.
"It's your..."it", right?" Shuichi remained lifefless. Kaede sighed. "It really hurts...right?" Shuichi, at this time, he nodded slowly.
Kaede goes near to him, and put her arm to her boyfriend's shoulder.
"I know you don't wanna talk about it...and I know you're pretty mellow now but...I'm worried about you."
Kaede said, as her little tears were in her eyes.
"I'm trying so hard to make everything perfect, fine, happy...but seeing you like this makes me think that all I made for you, and for me, it's all a big mistake." Shuichi gazed at Kaede, looking sort of sleeply.
"I know that, sweetheart, but...not everything is all happy, you know?" He replied, as his tears were in his eyes too.
"I know you're trying so hard to make things better, like for me and our friends...and for everyone. But you can't make everything look all happy. I'm trying to get better too, but I'm always so...sad, I might even collapse. I'm always like that, and even if I don't say that I'm like that...that doesn't mean I don't want you." He said.
Kaede hugged him dearly.
"I know you want to let it all out...but the rainclouds won't go away, won't they?" She said. Shuichi hugged her back.
"I guess you could say that..." He replied, not finishing the sentence.
He wanted to let it all out, but the little rainclouds won't let him speak, speak everything he needs. Kaede was always there for him, and he knew it, but he coudn't let it all out. All the sadness, all the despair, all the anger, all because of that killing game. But it was all a simulation. His friends didn't die for real, but he's still upset.
Why? Why would his friends, his dear friends do this? Why killing, when you can survive without killing?
So many questions were running in Shuichi's mind, that he's always asking that to himself.
Why did the killing game even existed in the first place?
Why would people join it?
Why, why, why...because of that evil woman,
Junko Enoshima.
Why did the killing game even existed in the first place?
Because of Junko Enoshima.
Why would people join it?
Because of Junko Enoshima who made all of this.
Why, why, why...because of that evil woman,
Junko Enoshima, and her sister who really loves her dearly, Mukuro Ikusaba.
Mukuro didn't want it though...but she loves her sister so much, she would do everything for her.
Yes, even that killing game.
Shuichi, thinking all of this, begin to cry soflty. Kaede rubbed his hair, still hugging him. Kaede knew that feeling. She knew something's off. Kaede broke the hug and wiped out his tears. "There, there..." she said.
"Wanna stay on my lap, or do you wanna be alone?"
She mumbled, as she hold Shuichi's hand.
"Can you just...stay here, for a...while?" He said, shyly.
Kaede smiled.
"Why of course, Shu." She agreed.

A couple of minutes, Shuichi fell asleep on Kaede's lap.
Kaede picked Shuichi's phone to see the time.
"A quarter and twelve..." she thought. She didn't want to leave Shuichi, so she just sat there, with him.
Everything was off, until Kaede made it all better.
She would be always there for everyone, especially for her boyfriend.
She will make everything better, no matter what, like a mother.
