Ijin had a long day of training. He wasn’t on duty today, but he decided to go to the gym anyway and spend a good few hours working out, doing a lot of cardio and endurance training mixed in with the leg and abdominal workouts that were on his workout schedule for that day. He had then spent some time back at his family’s apartment, seeing Dayeon and his Grandfather for lunch before taking some time to check in on the few SW employees he guarded on days that he was on duty, before being urged to not even think about work that day. He had been shooed out quickly, and told that there would be consequences if they found out that he didn’t rest. He sighed as he walked home, his sore legs were finally catching up to him after the day of hard work that he had scheduled himself.
Ijin trudged up the stairs, pulling his small silver key ring out of his jacket pocket and sorting through till he found his apartment key, it was the one with the blue dot on it. He shared his apartment with his co-worker and boyfriend Koh Sukjoo, who rarely shared a day off with. Unfortunately, today was not one of those days. The few precious moments that they did have off together they spent cuddling in bed and going out for food. Once a good portion of the day had passed, the pair would get out for some light training around before moving to the couch to watch some movies as night fell. Sukjoo had gone to work today, though he had texted Ijin that he was home about an hour before Ijin even planned to be home. It didn’t help that he got caught up at the store while getting some snacks, which meant he arrived home a whole ninety minutes after his boyfriend. Sukjoo’s job was not dangerous on a normal day, and today was even calmer, because Shin Yuna was staying inside today, working on all of the paperwork she missed doing because of school. He had even texted Ijin on his break that the day was going slow as hell, and that he was incredibly bored just standing around in the office all day.
So it was quite the surprise when Ijin came home to find Sukjoo in their gray-tiled bathroom, seated on the toilet, his first aid kit’s contents spread over the counter, bandaging what was clearly a shallow knife wound across his right breast. Ijin announced his presence by dropping his dark blue gym bag on the floor with a loud thud. Sukjoo, alarmed, shot up to his feet, still holding the gauze against his body as the metal pin he was using to secure the bandages in place clattered to the floor. Wincing in pain from the sudden aggressive movement, Sukjoo remained standing, but hunched over slightly. While he was standing, Ijin got a good assessment of the various wounds on his boyfriend’s body.
Small red bruises were beginning to form around his wrists and on his neck from being grabbed and manhandled, there was a small cut on his cheek, right below his left eye that was covered with a small band-aid. His knuckles were red and bleeding, though whether it was his blood was up for debate. The right side of his jaw sported a larger purple bruise from being punched in the face. The most serious wound, however, was the one he was currently doing an okay job at bandaging. Ijin let out a small relieved sigh, Sukjoo wasn’t beat up too badly. He moved forward and gently kissed Sukjoo, careful to avoid the bruise by kissing him towards the right side of his lips. He took the roll of gauze tape from Sukjoo and guided him to sit back down on the toilet, unraveling the poorly wrapped bandages that the other had tried to do himself. Ijin plucked the metal pin from the floor, placing it on the counter for easy access. Sukjoo was more than capable of giving himself medical attention, but the cut was at such an angle that it was difficult to wrap on oneself.
Ijin chucked the bloodied bandages in the trashcan to the left, and tightly wrapped Sukjoo’s upper torso in gauze, securing it with the metal pin once he was finished. He reached for the medical gel on the counter, spreading the gelatinous substance on his fingers, before gently rubbing it into Sukjoo’s bruises. The black haired boy hissed at the cold feeling.
“I’m sorry it’s so cold.” Ijin softly apologized.
“No, no, you’re good, just pushing a little too hard.” Sukjoo let out a shaky breath as Ijin’s delicate fingers moved from his wrist to his neck.
“Sorry, I’m sorry.” Ijin paid extra attention to this round of bruises, trying to not rub too hard on the small bruises.
Once Sukjoo was all bandaged up, Ijin picked him up bridal style and carried him to bed, despite the other’s exclamations that he could walk on his own. Once they were in the bedroom, Ijin propped Sukjoo up on some pillows and changed out of his sweaty gym clothes into a pair of jeans and a t-shirt.
“How are you feeling?” Ijin asked once he had returned to Sukjoo’s bedside.
“Better. Thank you.”
“I’m glad. Now-” Ijin ran his fingers through Sukjoo’s hair, before dancing his fingers down Sukjoo’s jaw, forcing the other to look him in the eyes. “Tell me who did this to you.”
Ijin’s tone went from soft and loving to cold and sharp in a matter of seconds, he wasn’t just asking for an answer, he was demanding it. Sukjoo swallowed.
“There were some random perps a couple streets down that jumped me when I was grabbing some takeout for us. Really, you don’t have to worry about it.”
“But they hurt you. So I do have to worry about it.”
“Just don’t be gone for too long, alright?” Sukjoo sighed, knowing that he wouldn;t be able to stop Ijin from going to beat up those criminals.
“I’ll be back before you know it.” Ijin leaned down and kissed Sukjoo’s forehead. He then strode out of the room, grabbing a baseball cap from the hook by the door.
Three minutes later, Ijin was walking down the darkened street, lingering in the inbetweens of the street lamps, when someone jumped out of the alleyway behind him, brandishing a knife. Ijin smirked. Found them.
The man behind him lunged forward to grab Ijin by his neck. The gray haired boy darted to the side, spinning around to move behind the robber. He dodged the swinging blade that came inches close to his face. Jerking his wrist up, Ijin hit the attacker in the forearm, sending the pocket knife in his hand flying through the air. Ijin caught it by the handle, before ducking under a swing from a second robber that had just appeared from the alleyway. Ijin smiled maliciously as a third and finally criminal came from the shadows, but then remembered his promise to Sukjoo to get home soon, and sighed internally. As much as he would enjoy beating these boys up, it couldn’t last long. He needed to be quick and efficient with his punishment.
While it was quick, Ijin’s punishment certainly wasn’t merciful. His clothes were spattered in blood and he quickly walked home to avoid being stopped by the police or spotted by someone who may have seen the incident from their window. Ijin took the stairs two at a time, quickly sprinting into his apartment once he unlocked it with steady hands. He smiled and waved at Sukjoo on his way to the bathroom to wash up.
When he emerged once more, after a quick shower and a clean change of pajamas, he turned out the lights and got under the covers next to his boyfriend, announcing his presence by giving the other some gentle kisses on the back of his neck. Sukjoo lazily rolled over to kiss Ijin on the lips.
“Are they dead?” He asked.
“Not dead, but not doing well.” Ijin confirmed.
“What did you do to them?”
“Gave ‘em a few cuts, and I broke one of their arms.”
“Thank you.” Sukjoo softly smiled and gave his boyfriend one more kiss before snuggling into Ijin’s embrace, where he was safe. He felt Ijin’s strong arms encircle him, drawing Sukjoo closer into the dark warmth of his chest. Sukjoo’s eyes closed as he felt a sense of calm wash over him.
Ijin would protect him from anything that was a threat to him, of that he was sure.
