D&D/Pathfinder Sea Shanties and Other Songs

Summary:

I wrote some lyrics to existing sea shanty tunes about my D&D and Pathfinder campaigns.

Notes:

This song is to the tune of Stan Rogers's Northwest Passage. There are a few more verses here than his song actually has, though. I wrote this as if it were written by my character, Elijah, who used to be a pirate until he joined this adventuring party, the Band.

Chapter 1: Northwest Passage

Chapter Text

Ah, if just one time I could take the Strait of Bearings

And find the Band together, I could join their company

I long for those times, I was younger and more daring

When I'd make the northwest passage through the sea

Of course there's brave Tellervo, the Band he never brought astray

Like them, he left a settled life, he threw it all away

To seek a high adventure at the call of many men

To find there but the road back home again

Ah, if just one time I could take the Strait of Bearings

And find the Band together, I could join their company

I long for those times, I was younger and more daring

When I'd make the northwest passage through the sea

Three centuries hereafter, taking passage through the sky

To ally with great dragons, will Selavra proudly fly

Watching cities rise before them, then behind them sink again

This hardiest explorer, evermore shall grace the plains

Ah, if just one time I could take the Strait of Bearings

And find the Band together, I could join their company

I long for those times, I was younger and more daring

When I'd make the northwest passage through the sea

There's wondrous Iodessa, with creations new and bold

Artillery and marksmanship she artfully controlled

She climbed the broken ramparts hiding Austalfur's old ways

To change the landscape that she now surveys

Ah, if just one time I could take the Strait of Bearings

And find the Band together, I could join their company

I long for those times, I was younger and more daring

When I'd make the northwest passage through the sea

First Veezara conquered death, before Imix yet had died

Of undead he became master, the laws of life defied

His loyalty is boundless and his fate was overthrown

Because he couldn’t leave his love alone

Ah, if just one time I could take the Strait of Bearings

And find the Band together, I could join their company

I long for those times, I was younger and more daring

When I'd make the northwest passage through the sea

Despite how late she joined the Band, she was gladly received

Bravery has a warrior’s soul, through demons’ hearts she cleaved

She had not expected to find the one that she beloved

O’er her mission there was something else above

Ah, if just one time I could take the Strait of Bearings

And find the Band together, I could join their company

I long for those times, I was younger and more daring

When I'd make the northwest passage through the sea

A half-elf ranger joined the group—stoic, still, and cold

Then three years passed and everyone could see her heart of gold

Without the Artio-Midnight duo, the Band would not survive

Her bow and arrows kept us all alive

Ah, if just one time I could take the Strait of Bearings

And find the Band together, I could join their company

I long for those times, I was younger and more daring

I'd make the northwest passage through the sea

Renwick, once an outcast, learned his path was hard to find

He thought about a pirate's life, but left the ship behind

The Band became his family and the home for which he longed

Adventuring they took him and beyond

Ah, if just one time I could take the Strait of Bearings

And find the Band together, I could join their company

I long for those times, I was younger and more daring

I'd make the northwest passage through the sea

And through the night, behind the wheel, the mileage clicking west

I think upon Veezara, Iodessa and the rest

Who brought friendship and chaos, and did show a path for me

A life beyond what haunts me undersea

Ah, if just one time I could take the Strait of Bearings

And find the Band together, I could join their company

I long for those times, I was younger and more daring

When I'd make the northwest passage through the sea

(The song technically ends here, but I wrote another vers about a party member everyone forgot because of Wish shenanigans.)

Mickey Avalon had proved himself to be a gifted bard

We never really got to know how much his past was scarred

His plans were all contentious, he had his own designs

Yet still we wish our paths were intertwined
