Work Text:

i.

"xiaoshi- that's enough." the younger managed to speak out as the brunet continuously pepper his face with feather-like kisses.

the sun had just started to sink toward the horizon. the sky was beautiful, yellow mixed with a warm shade of tangerine. it looked as if someone had mindlessly poured paint into a blank canvas, letting the colors swirl and mix on its own.

lu guang was getting ready to prepare dinner for the both of them. ever since who knows when, lu guang had insisted on them eating home cooked meals instead of ordering take out or eating instant noodles every single day. he could literally imagine them dying before the age of forty if they decided to keep this bad habit of theirs up.

lu guang was not particularly the best cook in town, but he was not bad either. at least the meals he made were all edible. cheng xiaoshi on the other hand, was the absolute definition of do not let him go anywhere near the kitchen. the only times were when he needed to boil water for instant noodles or a cup of coffee. they both came to agree that it was way better for lu guang to be in charge of their meals instead, whilst cheng xiaoshi would occasionally come up and cling onto lu guang like a koala.

"xiaoshi..." the younger voiced again.

cheng xiaoshi was particularly clingy on that day, never leaving lu guang's side. the former had lu guang stood with his back flushed against the marble island top, the cool surface seeping through his thin white t-shirt. both hands held lu guang in place by his waist as he snuggled into the crook of his neck, peppering yet another set of light kisses to his neck. lu guang shivered at every contact his lips made to his skin.

"xiaoshi, are you okay?" the white haired asked, sensing something was off from the way cheng xiaoshi was being overly clingy.

"i'm sorry. i just could not help it." he mumbled against his skin.

the younger took his face with both of his hands, forcing cheng xiaoshi to look at him. he came face to face with the raven's partially tear stained face. he gently stroke the soft skin with the pad of his thumb, cheng xiaoshi unknowingly leaned into the touch. it's warm. lu guang's touches had always been warm.

"it's okay, i'm here." lu guang said before he got on his tip-toes and kissed the older boy's forehead.

ii.

"xiaoshi, what were you thinking earlier?" the younger voiced into his chest.

cheng xiaoshi had had lu guang wrapped in his arms, one of them snaking around his slim waist, while the other gently holding his head toward him to rest on his chest.

the sun had disappeared into the horizon and the moon greeted the town. the moon shone brightly from above the sky, casting silvery light onto the sleeping town. the room was illuminated by the soft glow of the moon, accompanied by a single night lamp on the bedside table.

the white sheets underneath them further crinkled as cheng xiaoshi pulled lu guang closer to him.

"nothing." he murmured into the soft white locks. he took in the initiative to breathe in the sweet scent of strawberries. he likes it.

a moment of comfortable silence filled the air. lu guang could hear cheng xiaoshi's steady heartbeat through his thin shirt, and cheng xiaoshi could hear the soft breathing coming from his lover's lips. he wanted this moment to last forever.

"i love you, lu guang. i really do." cheng xiaoshi broke the silence first, his voice barely above a whisper.

"i love you too, xiaoshi."

with that, cheng xiaoshi's eyes felt heavier than it had already been. he finally closed his heavy eyelids as a single tear made its way down his cheek.

iii.

the birds greeted cheng xiaoshi as usual. it was once morning again, the sky was bright and the trees danced in the light morning breeze.

cheng xiaoshi stretched his arms out, reaching for a particular person to hold as he slightly shivered in the morning air, but his arms only landed on the soft sheets beside him. the surface was cold and neat, no indication of anyone sleeping there the night prior.

cheng xiaoshi jumped in response, his eyes wandering around the room for his beloved.

then, it hit him.

lu guang was not there. he was not there to accompany cheng xiaoshi through his days.

ever since the younger was missing, the older could only rely on a piece of paper. the last photograph of him and lu guang before the latter was cruelly taken away from him.

he missed his warmth. he missed his cooking. he missed his beloved.

the older got ready for yet another day to find and take lu guang back. he could only pray that his lover was still well and alive. he knew he was.
