Work Text:

Jihoon sighs, his eyes catching sight of the clock reading that it was nearing 2AM, as the producer asks him to re-record for the tenth time. Jihoon didn’t usually mess up but he had somewhere to be and was stressing over it which ironically is ending up making him more late.

It was Wanna one’s 5th anniversary and although all the other members were a bit busy with schedules, Jihoon and Woojin both ended up having a free gap in theirs so decided to meet up and celebrate. It had been a while since the two met, Jihoon busy with his drama shooting and Woojin with group activities, so they thought it’d be a perfect time to catch up as well as celebrate five years of their debut.

But out of all days, the producer wanted Jihoon to come in to record and alter some things for his upcoming album release.

Woojin said they could meet up anytime, no matter how late but now it was already 2AM and Jihoon had an early shooting tomorrow and he simply wouldn’t have time. His heart sinks at the fact that the one day he had time to meet Woojin, he couldn’t even do that. And now he doesn’t even know when they could next meet.

“Great job, Jihoon! We are all done for today. Rest well.” The producers’ crackly voice travels through his headphones. Jihoon nods and bows, thanking the team for their hard work as he grabs his stuff and scurries outside.

It’s chilly tonight and Jihoon’s glad to be able to feel the summer breeze flow through his loose clothes as the weather in Seoul during the day had been so hot and humid. He checks his phone to see whether Woojin had responded to his text apologising that it’d be too late and hopefully they could meet next time.

woojinie: it’s okay, hoon!

Jihoon let’s out a little laugh as Woojin spammed him with the multiple stickers on KakaoTalk, letting Jihoon know he’s not mad at all. Jihoon wonders how much that boy had spent on those stickers. Woojin was responsible with his money but all that logic went out the door when it came to his KakaoTalk stickers and figurines.

He sighs. He really was looking forward to meeting him, especially on a day like their 5th anniversary. It’s always weird to him thinking about how Woojin was someone he’d see all the time from the start of his day to the end and now he is hardly able to catch a glimpse.

Jihoon looks up at the sky. “Wow, the moon is so pretty.” He mutters, switching to his camera app and lifting up his phone to get a perfect shot of the moon.

It was a full moon, shining very bright, even through the cloudy night sky. Jihoon remembers the time Woojin and himself went on a camping trip during Battle Trip and they saw a moon just as beautiful as tonight. It was a lovely memory that Jihoon keeps in his heart. Although they were surrounded by staff and camera crew, both of them reminiscing their trip and seeing the glowing moon looming over the mountain tops was an unforgettable feeling.

Jihoon happy with his photo, uploads it to his SNS. He spots a bench and decides to take a seat. His manager would probably be standing at the dorm ready to tell him off already for taking so long to get back but it was rare for Jihoon to find a quiet time like this in his hectic life. And Jihoon didn’t want to miss the opportunity of being able to take a little breather.

A sudden ping from Jihoon’s phone startles him. He glances at the screen and it’s Woojin. Why is he awake? Jihoon gets ready to scold him (even though he’s the one with the early schedule tomorrow and should be asleep right now).

woojinie: i like ur moon

jihoon: woojin. it’s past 2am?? go to sleep??

woojinie: where did u even take it? did u finish recording?

jihoon: yeah just heading back to the dorm! it’s by that coffee shop we used to get those yummy doughnuts from

woojinie: oooh buy me some

jihoon: woojin. it’s 2am

woojinie: whateverrr

woojinie: ok do u like my moon?

jihoon: huh.. this sounds weird

woojinie: HOW? u’re making it weird i just wanted to woo u with my moon. moon u?..

jihoon: i know u know what that means

Jihoon knows Woojin’s cackling under his duvet covers right now at his silly, little joke.
He can’t help but crack out a little smile. Woojin was really a kid at heart. It was cute. There’s a reason why all the older members loved to dote on Woojin. He was just cute in all ways. If he told Woojin that, the other would just deny it. But in a cute way, and then ends up defeating his own denial.

woojinie: i posted it on universe pms. u wouldn’t know cause u didn’t subscribe to me

Woojin proceeds to spam him with angry Ryan stickers.

jihoon: i don’t need to pay money when u can message me for FREE woojin

woojinie: maybe i’ll start charging. if u want a response from my great self it’s gonna cost u 10krw from now u

jihoon: woojin

Jihoon sighs. He actually debates sending him money and then shakes his head. “Am I crazy?”

jihoon: i’m not paying u anything

jihoon: actually u should be paying me! i’m older!

jihoon: just send me the moon pic so i can stop taking to u

woojinie: :(

woojinie attached an image

woojinie: is it pretty

jihoon: very

jihoon: u never fail with the blurry effect

woojinie: it wasn’t intentional! my hands were shaky

jihoon: okay whatever u say.. definitely not ur camera skills.

woojinie: :(((

The conversation seems to naturally end there but Jihoon suddenly feels like apologising again. It would’ve been fun to meet up and he feels so terrible for basically standing up Woojin even though it was not really his fault.

jihoonie: woojin? i’m sorry we couldn’t meet up today :/

woojinie: why r u apologising again? it’s ok!! i understand sometimes things don’t go our way.

jihoon: do u miss me?

Jihoon holds his breath as the 1 disappears from beside his message.

A minute passes and there’s no response. Jihoon types up another message.

jihoon: cause i miss u a lot

The 1 also disappears from this and Woojin still doesn’t respond. Jihoon let’s out a sigh and gets up from the bench. Maybe, he feel asleep. Jihoon nods his head and decides it must be that. It was already pretty late and Woojin had done that many times before too.

“Jihoon!”

Jihoon freezes at hearing his name being called from someone behind him. He quickly decides whether to run or confront. His body chooses to run and Jihoon starts to leg it to his dorms. His mind flashes with news headlines, “Jeojang boy couldn’t jeojang himself”.

Jihoon shudders. He might come back from the dead if he saw that headline being used.

His heart drops as the person, running terrifyingly fast, catches up to him and wraps their arms around him. They hold him with a tight grip, not allowing Jihoon to escape. That’s it. I am done for.

“I do miss you. A lot, you know.”

What? Jihoon slowly peers behind him and sees Woojin. He’s huffing and puffing like the Big Bad Wolf from The Three Little Pigs, his hair is plastered to his slightly sweaty forehead and his little snaggletooth glints through his playful grin.

“I thought I was about to die!”

Woojin chuckles, releasing his grip from a still shaken up Jihoon. He pats the others’ head, “Yeah, I can tell.” Woojin pinches Jihoon’s pudgy cheek, “Never seen you run that fast. Kinda funny.”

Jihoon rolls his eyes, “Yeah, me fearing for my life. So funny.”

Woojin purses his lips, and knocks against him, draping an arm across his shoulder, “Happy 5th anniversary, roommate.”

Jihoon shakes his head, and smiles up at Woojin, “Really! Last time, we were roommates was three years ago.” Jihoon snorts.

“Hey, hey! You’re forgetting what you said already.” Woojin huffs, ruffling up Jihoon’s hair.

Jihoon swats his arm away, “Of course not.”

Woojin stays stoic, and looks ahead. Jihoon smiles a little, resting his head against the other. “Happy 5th anniversary, my forever roommate.”

Jihoon doesn’t need to look at his face to know Woojin is sporting a happier expression right now.

They continue walking down the street. The moon above glimmers through the tree branches as Woojin chatters beside him about all the recent pranks he pulled on his manager and how Jihoon would’ve loved them. He denies Woojin’s statement and the two start squabbling.

Jihoon can’t help but let out a loud laugh from wondering what people would think of them right now, in the middle of the street, arguing about something so silly at this hour.

In his heart, and Woojin’s too, they wouldn’t wish to be anywhere else at this moment.

Forevermore roommates indeed.
