Work Text:

He waited for her on their late night shift.

Emmet watched, his icy eyes pointing to his brother as he embraced a girl as she stepped into the subway’s car. A rare beam spread across his face as he saw her, kissing her tenderly on the forehead, and asking how her day had been.

You were Ingo’s. And Emmet knew that. But he couldn’t help but be filled with such envy.

Long before you and Ingo started dating, Emmet had a crush on you. He felt wrong for feeling that way, since he was aware Ingo liked you too. His crush on you started way before Emmet developed his feelings, and Ingo often talked about you to his brother - until eventually he asked you out and you accepted. And of course, the younger brother was left in the shadows.

Emmet saw how happy his brother and crush were together. If only he spoke up about his feelings, maybe he would have won you first. Then Ingo would have been the one left in the shadows. But would that really be right? To his own twin brother? After all, it was Ingo who liked you first. He was the one head over heels for you. He was the one who always talked about how perfect you were and asked for advice on how to ask you out. He was the one who acted like a little schoolboy whenever he saw his crush pass by. Not Emmet.

Overtime, the younger twin grew tired of his brother rambling on about you constantly. He hated how he described you. He felt like it should be him to say these things. But still, he kept his feelings bottled up. It was the best thing to do as if Ingo found out, they’d fight like children - merely over a girl.

In the end, Ingo won you. Won a race he didn’t even know he was participating in.

Emmet watched as you two hugged your greetings on the late night train. The last train of the night, Ingo always waited for his partner after she had finished catching Pokémon for the day.

He watched as you were incredibly happy to see each other - despite being so exhausted as you both often had a busy day.

He watched as he touched you . He grits his teeth discreetly as you should be his to touch - not Ingo’s .

He wanted you so badly . He wanted you to be his. And his only.

As much as he hated to admit in the beginning, he loved you. To a painful amount. It was unbearably hard for him to see you with someone else.

But Emmet had a job to do. He was a Subway Boss and conductor. He had to keep his public figure positive - and somehow hide his burning desire that lay deep inside him; fake enthusiasm about battling alongside his brother on the Battle Subway.

"Follow the rules. Safe driving! Follow the schedule. Everybody smile! Check safety. Everything's ready! Aim for victory! All aboard!"

What a ride this will be.
