Work Text:
It's winter, a cold season that a lot of people loathe. Some people hate it for its cold weather, the snowflakes that never fail to fall, the ice that causes the roads to be a bit more slippery. Some people hate it because of the holidays, the lack of gifts they receive or the absence of people around a dining table.
Hell, some people even hate it because of the cheery 'Holiday Spirit' that shimmers on Christmas.
Yosano, luckily, shares none of these grievances. After all, she has a family at the Armed Detective Agency who provide her with countless gifts. She gets to eat a warm meal with them & hear the loud chatter.
But her favorite part? When she goes home to her wife. When she enters the warm apartment, a pure juxtaposition to the outdoor coldness & sees tea set on the coffee table & a very warm Kouyou.
Yosano gets to curl up in her arms, bathe in the warmth of chamomile tea & her wife's perfume.
She loves when they make dinner together, going around their small kitchen. She loves when after their dinner they both decide it's finally time to give each other the presents.
She loves when a golden ribboned gift box is handed to her, she loves when she hands a pink ribboned gift box to Kouyou.
Yosano especially loves that when she opens the box, it's filled with Japanese sweets & a gift card with way too much money on it .
She can tell that Kouyou loves her own gift that holds a small hair accessory, a golden butterfly, much like Yosano's, with three diamonds embedded into it.
“Yosano,” Kouyou speaks fondly, her smile soft & her gaze sugary sweet, “This must've cost a fortune, how long have you been saving?”
Yosano appreciated her saying 'fortune', especially when she knows all too well that Yosano's kind of 'fortune' is nothing compared to hers.
“Not too long, don't worry about it. It's worth it.” It is worth it. But it definitely took half her paycheck since October to save up, the agency doesn't pay all too well, don't blame her.
Kouyou simply nods, “I love it, so much, Yosano.”
“Don't love it more than me.” Yosano jokes, “But seriously, how much is on this gift card?”
Kouyou does everything but give her an answer, “You'll have to find out.”
She's pretty sure this card holds ten times her agency's paycheck.
Yosano takes Kouyou's hand & lays a kiss on her palm. “I love you, Kou. Thank you.”
That hand moves to cup her cheek, “I love you too, & thank you.”
Yosano closes her eyes, leaning into her palm, “Please, I didn't do anything. You spent so much more.”
Kouyou clicks her tongue & she knows she's in for a lecture, “It's not about the money Yosano, it's about what's behind it. Even if I bought it myself, it wouldn't be nearly as special. It's priceless, priceless because it's from you.”
Did Yosano mention she loves this woman? Did she mention she would have spent twenty times the amount of her paycheck on her? Did she mention she loves Kouyou Ozaki? Because god, she loves her so much .
She wishes she was as good with words, but for now she'll mumble I love you until they decide it's time to go to bed.
It's winter, a cold season a lot of people loathe.
Yosano thinks she loves winter the most, not because it's cold, not because of the ice she nearly slips on when she's going to work, not because of the meal she enjoys with the people closest to her & not because of the gifts she receives.
No, it's none of that.
She loves winter because she gets to spend the cold season with her wife, huddled up in bed & warm.
She loves winter because she loves Kouyou.
