dress you up in my love

Summary:

Jimin is feeling a tiny bit insecure about the Friendcation trip. Taehyung thinks it’s cute.

Or, the one where vmin have a pre-departure chat.

Notes:

For all the lonely hearts secretly devastated that the Wooga Squad was out there stunting in the same matching pajamas Vmin already have. Enjoy.

In this fic, Jimin and Taehyung consider themselves married in all but name.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

It’s stupid. Jimin’s knows it’s stupid, and insecure, and pointless. There is absolutely nothing in question about the integrity of his relationship.

And he just turned twenty-eight years old! He got over this jealousy a long time ago.

(They’re just pajamas. It’s whatever.)

Stupid.

Taehyung is sitting there on the other end of the sofa in total ignorance of the turmoil he unleashed with the simple act of flipping his phone over and saying “Look at the pajamas they’re getting us.”

Jimin has spent the last five minutes trying not to feel inexplicably put out now that Seojoon, Sunghwan, Wooshik, and Hyungsik will all have the same matching set of pajamas he and Taehyung bought years ago.

“Hey,” he says now. “What is your day like on Wednesday?”

Jimin consults his own phone, even though he already knows. “Hair, fitting, voice, meetings, and yoga if I have time.”

“No dance that day?”

He shakes his head, watching intently. Taehyung only ever looks this shy when he wants something.

“We’re bringing the car back to the company garage,” he says. “We have to turn in the microphones and handhelds. I think there will be takeout for us after.” He blinks. “I could make sure.”

“...Okay?”

He leans closer and blinks his long-lashed eyes at Jimin. “You could join us there,” he says, all casual, like it’s only a suggestion and not something really, really wants.

Because Jimin can see that right there in his face. Maybe he shouldn’t be surprised, but he is.

“Me?” he repeats.

Taehyung nods.

“You want me to come have dinner with you at the end of your trip? Like I’m eomma picking you up from a playdate?” Jimin can’t quite stop the derision from sneaking into his tone. He’s been working on it. Really.

“It won’t be like that,” Taehyung pleads. “And it will only be four. Hyungsik’s leaving early.”

“That would still be weird.”

“I promise it won’t be.”

“How? Is everybody else getting picked up by someone?”

“Jiminah, come on. This whole trip is happening because we almost never get to see each other all at the same time.”

“So?”

“So this might be the only time you get to meet them properly. It might be a long time before we can all be together again… Maybe years.”

“Why does that matter?”

But Taehyung only shrugs, annoyingly aloof. “Because you're my boyfriend.”

Distaste settles over Jimin's face. "Husband."

Taehyung reaches his free hand to cup Jimin’s cheek, holding on gently. "Husband, lover, soulmate, universe, everything." He nods once, a strong affirmative, and waits until Jimin nods back to go on.

Then he sighs. "But when it finally happens, you'll be my boyfriend."

Ugh. The elusive it

If, when, maybe, possibly.

Their long term schedules had vague outlines for it. Managers and staff and board members had discussed it to death long after throwing their hands up at the pair of them. Everything came with a price.

They don’t bring any of that up now, though. It’s already been rehashed hundreds of times. There are probably people at their company whose job it is to run analytics on two idols from the same group publicly dating. Jimin exerts a considerable amount of energy deliberately not thinking about it.

At this point it didn’t really matter, whatever happened. He and Taehyung would be forever. However it looked on the outside, if it was only some matching clothes (and pajamas) — they knew what they were to each other.

“Please come,” Taehyung says, extra soft. “They'll be at our wedding. I'd like for you to know them a bit.”

If the cards ever fell in exactly the right place. It might not happen until they leave the entertainment industry for good. Or the country. Or something.

Taehyung has always been the idealist between them.

Long fingers tap gently against his thigh. “It might be nice, when it happens. We’ll be back at the beginning.”

Jimin is still in the mood to be petulant. “There was no beginning,” he mutters, trying not-so-subtly to remind Taehyung that what exists between them is special, rare, and unique.

It has the opposite effect. He grins, wide and dazzling, snakes his arms forward and pulls Jimin flush against his chest. Taehyung loves this fantasy.

“Of course not, I’ve loved you in every lifetime,” he says warmly. Always so full of conviction and never a shred of doubt. Jimin feels his heart melt, just a little.

“...I don’t think I’ve ever had them before, though. Maybe that’s why I like it so much.”

Jimin scowls since Taehyung can’t see it. He’ll feel it though, so after a few moments of indulgence he shifts himself up and sits in Taehyung's lap properly.

Now those big eyes are looking up at him, all hopeful and expectant.

“Fine,” he relents. “I’ll be there anyway, I guess.”

Taehyung brightens like sunshine. “They’ll love you. I’ll make sure of it.”

Jimin starts to roll his eyes, but Taehyung leans up and catches him in a kiss — deeper and more passionate than it has any right to be on a Thursday morning when they are both dressed and have separate cars coming to collect them in less than twenty minutes.

He pulls back, smiling serenely even as Jimin’s cheeks flush with heat.

He’ll probably feel anxious about this later, but right now agreeing seems like a solid decision. Mature.

Then, on a whim, he blows out a puff of air that flutters the hair around Taehyung’s face.

“Did it have to be those pajamas?”

Taehyung laughs and reaches to pinch his cheek, eyes fond and far too knowing.

“Park Jiminie,” he says. “Let’s wear matching pajamas tonight. The naked kind.”
