Chapter Text

As Wukong stands outside Macaque's temporary apartment, which said monkey most likely stole the money for. The monkey could only think of how MK somehow convinced to do this. He could always back out at the last second but the kid would get all upset because of it. Macaque also must have already heard him indicated by the extremely faint shuffling sounds coming from inside. "No backing down now I guess" the ginger-furred simian breathlessly spoke as quietly as he could.

Before Wukong could even reach for the door-knocker, the door it belonged to came flying open with an annoyed Macaque behind it. "What do you want, Wukong?" Macaque spoke as if cyanide was laced with every word.

The monkey king slyly smirked at his edgy doppelganger. He loves to get Macaque all riled up. The six-eared macaque just glared at Sun Wukong trying to explode him with his mind. "I just wanted to see how you were doin'! Haven't seen eachother in so~ long, huh?" Sun Wukong pretended to be as innocent as he could as he said it, only dropping the act back to his smug face when he was done with his sentence.

Macaque just squinted his eyes trying not to show any reaction as to not let his goody-two-shoes counterpart get any entertainment. "Sure... It's just so normal to show up to the apartment of someone you tried to murder thousands of years ago." The gold simian's sly face dropped immediately and eyes shifted as to stare at the other doors littered the hallway.

It was Macaque's turn to be cocky. "Sure you didn't just come here to finally finish me off for good?" The monkey king groaned as Macaque finished his uncomfortable sentence with a hum.

Sun Wukong then sighed. He was going to at least try for MK's, and his, sake. "I just came here to ask if we could- hang out? Talk?" He didn't know how to phrase it, he was never very good at talking to others.

Macaque's eyes shot open at that as if Wukong had told him the most shocking news. "Huh!?- Why would you- huh??" He then quickly composed himself by taking a deep breath.

This outburst also had Wukong quite surprised since Macaque hadn't been this open with his emotions with him for many centuries. It was nice remembering how they were when they were young. Wukong's heart flutters as he thinks about him and Macaque making up after so long without his best friend or whatever he was.
Macaque then cleared his throat promptly, cutting off the monkey king's spiraling thoughts. Macaque could probably sense he was going down a rabbit hole, he always could.

As Wukong started to zone back into the real world, Macaque sighed and then spoke. "Fine... I guess we could walk around the city a little." Macaque looked away with supposed embarrassment as his orange counterpart stares at him with surprised glee.

"BUT! Only if you don't disturb me here, since telling you to never speak to me again would be impossible. " Macaque finished with annoyance found in every crevice of his voice.

"HA! You know you love me.~" the monkey king cooed.

Macaque grumbles in embarrassment as a response. "This is also too short of notice to go right now..." the dark-furred monkey complained.

Wukong seemingly deflated at the prospect of not being able to fix their friendship. "Tomorrow then?" He said hoping that his tone didn't sound too hurt.

Macaque's smugness returned to his face instantaneously as he leaned against the door frame. "You could just say you missed me~" Wukong's face instantly turned beet red.

"HUH?! Is it so bad to want to rekindle a friendship, huh?" Wukong was getting tired at Macaque's attitude causing his tail to lash violently behind him.

Macaque just laughed in response. "Fine." The six-eared simian sighing at the start.

Wukong was a bit confused at what Macaque was speaking of first; when he realized he tried to play it cool with his tail giving him away. "That's what I thought. Couldn't miss a day with the monkey king after all." The ginger monkey spoke with lighthearted resolve paired with a tint of red on his face.

"I will find you at 12 tomorrow so you better be ready." Macaque said as he promptly slammed the door in his counterpart's face.

The sudden slam of the door made Wukong kind of jump as he wasn't expecting the abrupt end to their conversation. The golden simian simply stared at where his used-to-be rival was standing. His heart then began racing as his thoughts had finally caught up to his brain. He stumbled backwards feeling butterflies grow in his stomach.

The monkey king then quickly left the claustrophobic hallways of his shadowy companions' living space, sometimes tripping on invisible obstacles in his embarrassed daze. He then summoned a cloud and zipped away back to his home on Flower Fruit Mountain where all his fellow monkeys await him, most likely wanting him to tell them how it went.

As soon as he got home he tried his best to pass the time. The majority of the time trying to think of where to go and what to do to keep Macaque interested.
