Chapter 1: Book Burning

Chapter Text

Sirius’s face is in camera view. He grins.

Sirius: Hello, and welcome to the Black family documentaries! My job is to record all the shenanigans that happen in this house so I can show James. Today, my cousin Bellatrix and Aunt Druella are having an argument. Let’s go check it out!

Camera flips to show Sirius walking down a hallway at Grimmauld Place. A door along the hall opens up and Regulus steps out. He stares at at the Sirius and the camera.

Regulus: What on earth are you doing!? Is that a muggle contraption? Mother will have a fit!

Sirius: What she doesn’t know can’t hurt her.

Regulus frowns and walks closer. He examines the camera and huffs.

Regulus: What does it do? I hope it’s not dangerous.

Sirius: Relax, Regulus. It’s not going to explode or anything. This thing here is actually like a muggle version of a Pensieve. It records everything so you can see it later.

Regulus: You’re telling me that muggles managed to replicate memory magic?

Sirius: Yep. It’s called a camera. And it’s watching you right now. If you step aside, I’ll make it record them instead.

Sirius points to a room at the end of the hall. The door is half open, and loud noise is coming from inside. Regulus scowls and lets Sirius stick the camera through the door. Bellatrix is inside the room, using her wand to magically burn pieces of paper. Druella is also there, shouting at Bellatrix.

Druella: Bella! Stop that right now! You must use a bookmark when you read!

Bellatrix: Oh, mother, what’s the point? It’s so much more satisfying to set each page on fire after you’ve finished reading it.

Druella: But it ruins our books!

Bellatrix: But it’s convenient! It’s so easy to tell where you left off when everything you’ve already read is scorched!

Druella: I said no! You are ruining our heirloom treasuries!

Sirius pulls the camera away from the door opening and flips it so that you can see his face.

Sirius: Well that’s… interesting. I hope you like my footage, James! Come back for more! Bye!
