I Kinda Think I Like You

Summary:

Hypothetically, Ritsu would be willing to kiss someone. Especially if that someone was a certain someone he happened to be sharing a couch with, someone by the name Suzuki Shou. Hypothetically.

However, he had long accepted that this would unfortunately never actually happen. It's not like Ritsu was about to go ask his only close friend to pucker up and risk ruining their friendship forever.

But apparently Shou was.

Work Text:

"Have you ever kissed anyone?" Ritsu blinked. What?

"Huh- uhm- no, I guess not," Ritsu replied, desperately looking anywhere but Shou's face.

Who the hell asks that out of nowhere? Suzuki Shou, that's who. Ritsu wanted to bang his head against a wall. Maybe that would fix whatever the hell was wrong with him that made his stomach giddy with butterflies when combining the words kissing and Shou. All they were doing was watching some stupid action movie, like any other Saturday night spent at Shou's apartment. And sure, the characters on the screen were kissing each other like there's no tomorrow, but that happens in just about every movie ever. Why now? He could feel heat creeping up his neck, and Ritsu silently cursed himself, willing the blush to go away.

Shou hummed. "Me neither. They act like it's so special, I don't get it," Ritsu turned back towards him in time to see Shou's nose wrinkled in a mild grimace, still staring at the movie.

"Oh," Ritsu said. He contemplated this. He agreed that kisses in movies never held any emotional spark for him, but he could see the appeal of it in general. Especially if said kiss came from a certain someone with red hair who happened to be sitting on this couch with him. Hypothetically. "I guess because it's intimate? I don't know. Maybe it's only good if it's with a person you really like," Ritsu said eventually. Shou looked like he contemplated this very hard.

"Mm. You're probably right. I wouldn't wanna kiss someone I barely like," Shou grinned at him. "But I'd be okay with kissing you, I think," Ritsu choked on air.

"Wha-," He spluttered. "Uh-um, excuse me?" He could only hope his face wasn't as red as it felt.

" 'Cause I like you a lot, Ritsu," Shou said, and oh dear God, his expression was serious. Ritsu gulped. Suddenly the room felt far too hot for comfort.

"Like. . . as friends?" Ritsu's mouth felt dry. This couldn't be real.

"I don't. . . I don't know," Shou leaned back, and Ritsu realized Shou had been leaning very close to Ritsu's own face. For once, Shou looked nervous and unsure. "I've never really. . . had friends before. I don't know what that's supposed to feel like," He gulped visibly. "But it's-it's different with you than everybody else,"

Ritsu was still fifty percent sure he was dreaming.

Shou continued, "Sometimes I just want to grab your hand, or touch your hair. And-and you look cute when you're sleeping, and-"

"I like you too," Ritsu blurted. "I mean- like- uh-" He hadn't planned this well. "As. . . more than friends," His voice was so quiet, he wondered for a split second if Shou even heard him.

"Oh," Shou was blushing now too, red drowning out the freckles on his face.

"Yeah," Ritsu's face felt like it was burning. He wondered briefly if it was actually on fire, and perhaps he would mercifully die in the next few moments.

Shou bit his lip and chewed it for a second before saying, "I think I want to kiss you right now," His eyes didn't waver. And oh God, Ritsu was definitely going to die.

"Okay," Ritsu tripped over the word.

"Do you want me to?" Shou was staring at him oh-so-intently. Feeling unable to speak, Ritsu just nodded. He felt he had never wanted something more in his entire life.

"Okay," Shou whispered, leaning so close. Ritsu squeezed his eyes shut. His whole body prickled with nerves. And then he felt Shou's lips brushing over his own.

Shou's lips were chapped and dry and rough and still soft at the same time. Maybe it should've felt awkward, sitting there with their faces smushed together, but it didn't. It felt just right. All Ritsu could smell was Shou and his stupid shampoo or whatever the hell it was that made him smell so damn nice. The butterflies in his stomach were exploding with energy, making him feel dizzy. He grabbed the front of Shou's jacket and clung on for dear life. Shou, in turn, shuffled closer on the couch.

Ritsu felt a hand gently cradle the back of his head, fingers threading through his hair. Shou was touching him like he would shatter if he used too much force. He pressed kisses to every corner of Ritsu's lips, and Ritsu tried to press his own kisses, but it was difficult. Was this how a kiss was supposed to work?

It was over too soon, and Ritsu found himself staring at Shou, who stared back. "Um," he choked out, mind blank.

"Did you like it?" Shou seemed like he was searching for any hint of discomfort on Ritsu's face.

"I liked it, I think," Ritsu licked his lips. "Did you?"

A wide smile plastered itself on Shou's face. "Me too, I think," Ritsu couldn't find any words to say in his jumbled mess of a brain, so he just nodded like an idiot. Shou cleared his throat. "Do you- do you want to go out sometime as. . ." Shou glanced away, fiddling with his hands. "As more than friends?"

Ritsu felt a small, nervous smile creep its way onto his face. "Like a date?"

"Like a date," Shou confirmed, eyes finding their way back to Ritsu's.

"I think I'd like that," Ritsu nodded. Shou beamed at him.

"Y'know, you're really cute when you're embarrassed," Shou said after a few minutes of silent movie-watching.

Ritsu punched him in the arm.
