Work Text:
It had been nearly six months since you had agreed to be Sukuna’s assistant.
Well, perhaps assistant wasn’t the right word. Maybe devotee would be more fitting? Whatever the title, you’d sought him out after hearing of his power and had somehow made it into his domain to convince you to let you help him. He’d been impressed that you made it that far, and was “intrigued” by you (that was all he would say whenever you asked him).
Somehow, in those six months, you’d grown oddly comfortable in each other’s presence. And nights like these reminded you of that fact. Whenever Sukuna wasn’t busy, he’d spend the evening with you in your house and usually end up sleeping beside you in your bed. Thinking back, you couldn’t pinpoint when this odd arrangement started, but you were by no means complaining. Against your better judgment, you had fallen hopelessly in love with the curse. And sometimes, you couldn’t help the feeling that he felt the same way. A touch would linger for too long, his eyes would flash with something soft when they met yours, just little things that gave you hope. You had been meaning to ask him about it, but could never summon the courage.
But finally, tonight, you decided enough was enough. The two of you had settled into bed for the night, but were nowhere near sleep. Sukuna’s ankles were crossed, the top of his back leaning against your headboard. You lay against him on your side, head resting on his chest and one arm splayed across his stomach. It was now or never.
“Sukuna?” you began.
The curse in your bed responded with a low hum.
“Do…” These feelings had been building up for far too long. You had been thinking about this moment for what felt like forever, but now that you had committed to it, your mouth felt dry. You just needed to get it out so he could crush your heart (possibly literally, depending on how he took it) and things could move on. “How do you feel… about me?”
There was silence for a moment. From your position, you couldn’t see Sukuna’s face. You only felt the gentle circles he was rubbing on your back stop abruptly.
When he still said nothing, you continued softly. “I don’t want to ruin whatever this is, but I need to know. You show me affection that I just can’t view as platonic, you’re uncharacteristically…” It took you a moment to think of a word. “tender with me, and I can’t help the way I’ve been feeling. Maybe I’m reading into it too much, but I need you to tell me so I can stop wondering.”
“You’re really that big of a fool? Look at me.” It was more of a command than a request.
Fearing whatever came next, you propped yourself up on your elbow and lifted your chin until you were looking the King of Curses in the eyes. There was something wild and intense in his gaze, something you simply couldn’t make out. He brought a hand up to hold your chin, gentle, but firm. You nearly melted at the touch.
“You truly want to know?” He raised an eyebrow.
“Yes.”
“I adore you.”
Three words and your legs felt like jello. It was a good thing you were both lying down already, or you might have fallen over. His voice was raspy and low, barely containing the emotion behind his words. “I would blot out the sun and crush the moon between my fingers if it would make you happy.”
You couldn’t say anything. All you could do was stare in wonder, mouth agape. “Really?” you breathed, finally managing to push out the single word.
Sukuna nodded, flashing a devious grin as he leaned closer and dropped his voice to a whisper. “I’m surprised it took you this long to bring it up. I thought you’d have broken ages ago.” His face stopped merely inches from your own, setting butterflies alight in your stomach. “Seems I underestimated you.”
“I- I…” Words failed you. All you could do was stare blankly at his unignorably close lips.
“What? You want something?” He tightened his grip on your chin and tilted your face upward so you were forced to look him in the eyes. “If you do, I’ll need you to use your words.”
You felt your face heat up so fast, you were almost afraid of burning Sukuna’s hand. “I- Um…” You swallowed hard. “Can you kiss me?”
He smirked. “Easy as that.” Before you had time to prepare, he closed the gap and his lips were pressed against yours.
Your eyes had barely fluttered shut when you felt his tongue flick across your lips. You audibly squeaked, and Sukuna chuckled against your mouth as you gave him admission. You let him take the reins, as you weren’t the most experienced kisser, and you couldn’t help but love it when he was in control. He knew what he was doing, making it obvious with every expert movement.
He pulled back, leaving you panting and aching for more.
“Hmm,” he mused teasingly, just as out of breath as you. “I think you might be enjoying this just a little too much. Perhaps we should-”
You cut him off by connecting your lips once more, having noticed that his hold on your chin had loosened momentarily. You pushed yourself into a sitting position beside him.
“Bold move,” Sukuna snarled between kisses. His rough hands snaked around you, picking you up as if you were nothing and setting you down in his lap so you were straddling his legs. He brought one hand up to grip your hair, pressuring your head to stay right where he wanted it. The other hand found a home on your back, invoking an involuntary noise from your lips when he dug his fingernails into your skin. God, you could stay like this forever.
Eventually, though, you needed to pull away to get some air. When you met Sukuna’s eyes, they were filled with adoration. “You’re incredible, you know that?”
You blinked at the sudden compliment. “Me?”
He leaned forward, planting a kiss on your collarbone. “You.”
You inhaled sharply as you felt his tongue graze up your neck to your jawline. He yanked at your hair, forcing your chin up so he had more room to work with. He got to work kissing every inch of your neck, no doubt enjoying the little sounds he was drawing out of you with his masterful touch.
You were a quivering, heaving mess by the time he pulled back, and it was all you could do to not implode when he gently brushed the strands of hair from your face. “How was that?” he sneered devilishly.
You wrapped your arms around his neck, leaning against him for support as you caught your breath. You couldn’t muster a response, just held him tight to let him know how you felt.
He leaned his head against yours. “Good.” His fingers softly raked through your hair, making you feel more safe than you had in a long time.
You weren’t sure exactly where things would go from here, but you’d give anything to share more moments like this with Sukuna. And apparently, the feeling was mutual. You blushed again at the mere thought of his words, I would blot out the sun and crush the moon between my fingers if it would make you happy. Maybe this was alright. Maybe you could just let yourself drink in every detail of tonight and get lost in the deep red eyes that had called you incredible. That had made you feel like you were worth something. You let your heavy eyelids droop, falling asleep to the steady breathing of the King of Curses.
