Chapter Text
[ October 31st, 2007 ]
Days after Eda's break up, she ruthlessly cut her hair short, exposing her now bare ears and neck. In a fit of rage and sadness sue threw the scissors perfectly against the wall, sharpening a hole in her wall.
" uh, Eda?" Hooty carefully called, " you have a package! Hoot!"
Eda took a deep breath, taking a look in the mirror. Scattered around was a pile of ginger hair in clumps. Her now stort hair was bare, spiking from one end to the other, with a somewhat perfect v line down her neck.
" dang girl, you really know how to cut," she reassured herself with finger guns, "okay hooty."
She turned around to see a bird shaped tube patiently watching her, "what is it?"
"There seems to be a basket at your door, hoot!" He responded.
The sound of thunder rolled in the background, causing the package to burst into a fit of cries.
Eda raced down the stairs, thoughts filling her mind of what sort of thing could be in that basket, she may of lost her loved ones but she wasn't gonna let another go to waste.
She quickly opened the door with hooty following her down. She quickly drew a shield over the house as boiling rain came down.
opening the basket lied a tan witchling. With curly magenta hair and gold eyes. Wrapped in a yellow blanket was a note. It read;
" dear house owner,
I'm afraid I can't take care of my daughter as I am wanted by the emperor. My husband and I are soon to be dead. I pray to the Titan you can take care of her, it would be a hassle to find her a new guardian if I'm dead.
Sincerely signed, —"
The name had been scratched off. Who would leave a kid on my doorstep?
Eda brought the child in, carrying her in her arms.
" hey little one, " she cooed, "uh-"
She looked up at hooty, " how do you raise a kid?"
" Hoot! I don't know, I'm just a bird demon!"
" Great that's very resourceful," she glared annoyingly at hooty.
" Hm," she stared at the baby, her gold eyes flashed back at her. She's yours now.
The thought of Eda being a parent never crossed anyones mind. Sure she could have a kid if she wanted to, though, the curse would heavily affect it; the thought of 'the famous wild witch' Eda being a parent brought laughter to peoples minds.
Eda drew a light spell to calm the baby down. The babies laughter filled the house with a warm feeling.
" Are you gonna name her?" Hooty asked.
Eda paused for a second, " you really like the light don't you, baby?"
The baby responded with a laughter.
" I'll name her... Lucinda." She finally decided, " it means light, and she sure does like light."
" Agreed! She seems like a ball of sunshine. Hoot!" Hooty wiggled in excitement.
" welcome to the family, Lucinda."
—
Eda now sat in front of a box. Baby Luz started bouncing on the couch with uncle hooty watching her. It'd been a week since Eda had gained a child, she nicknamed her Luz for short.
" Hooty how do you put together a crib?" Eda asked?
Baby Luz had slept with Eda in her nest until the bed got here. Being a parent sure was rewarding.
" Uhm-" she looked around, "ugh, hooty did you eat the instructions?"
" No, hoot-" hooty mumbled with paper in his mouth.
She sighed angrily, "guess I gotta do this the hard way."
Baby Luz giggled. "Who you laughing at?" Eda playfully glanced at Luz who was trying to suck her toes.
" Maybe parenting isn't so bad after all," she relieved herself.
Eda spent the next two hours building a crib, rocking chair, changing table, dresser, toy box and baby proofing her house. The previous day she had painted Luz's room purple and added moons, suns and starts all over. Luz truly was a sunshine of joy.
She sat Luz in her crib and turned on the crib mobile that displayed a sun, moon, star and owl.
She finally sat back in the rocking chair after getting Luz to sleep, " I think I owe my mom an apology-"
Before she could respond a knock had rung the house. She glanced at the baby who was peacefully sleeping.
" Phew-" she sighed, then made her way downstairs.
No surprise when she opened the door to see Gwendolyn with a new 'cure for a curse' junk.
" Hello my little witchlet!" She rang with a smile.
" Gwendolyn." Eda glared.
" Oh please, I'm your mom! Call me mom!" She smiled.
" fine, what do you want, and keep it quiet." Eda hushed.
" whatever for dear?" Gwen puzzled.
" shh, she's asleep. " Eda ushered her in.
Gwen kept it quite, " I love what you did with the place. It's very... homey."
Eda sighed, " Thanks. Listen Gwen- I mean. Mom. I don't want you to cure my curse."
" Well why not? I'm sure it's bothering you. And I don't like those potions your taking. Who knows what's in them!" Gwendolyn put her hands on her hips.
Eda sighed, " I know your worried about me but I'm fine. Please mom, for me?"
Gwen sighed, " Okay. Have you heard from your sister lately?"
" Lilith?" Eda nearly scoffed, "she's probably out doing coven work."
" oh well I was hoping you've heard from her, she hasn't called us in ages." Gwendolyn looked down, " I hope she's okay."
Eda put her hands on her moms shoulders, " i assure you she's fine. She's a tough scout, she'll get through anything."
" I suppose your right, I should get going," Gwendolyn made her wait to the door.
" Wait." Eda paused.
Gwen turned to her, " yes dear?"
" wait here, I want you to meet someone." Eda motioned for her to sit on the couch as she made her way upstairs.
Down the hall a brown wooden door with a purple 'L' sign was visible. It had butterflies and daisies on it.
She carefully opened the door, baby Luz was wide awake giggling.
Eda sighed and picked up Luz, " you sure don't like naps, do you?"
Luz smiled.
Eda carried her down rapped in a baby yellow blanket.
Gwendolyn looked up in shock and nearly jumped out of her seat.
" mom, meet your granddaughter, Lucinda."
Gwen carefully took Luz in her arms, " oh she's adorable! why didn't you tell me you had a baby?"
" well- she's not mine mine-" Eda looked at her mom who was puzzled.
" What do you mean she's not yours?" She paused, " Oh Edalyn please tell me you didn't steal her."
" No no, she's officially mine, I found her on my door step a week ago after cutting what ever this was," she motioned her hand over her hair, " then I took her to the police and they officially ruled her an orphan. So I adopted her."
" Well it's a relive you didn't steal her," she chuckled, " hi baby! I'm your nana, gwen!" She cooed.
"Eda smiled, she felt glad she had someone else in her life now. Luz truly was a miracle baby.
" is it alright if I tell your father? I'm sure he'd be glad to hear he's a grandfather." Gwen looked up at her tired daughter.
" of course, I don't mind." She smiled softly.
" you look terrible hun! When was the last time you slept?" Gwen realized the dark eye bags under edas eyes.
" uh, i don't know, 3 days ago?" She tried accounting when she ever got a full night of sleep.
" oh dear, how about I take the baby for the weekend and you get some sleep? You definitely need it." Gwen rocked the baby.
" oh please do mom. I love Luz and all but she's a pain." Eda sat on the couch happily.
Gwen had already spawned a bag of baby items, " no worries dear, she'll be safe with your father and I."
" Thanks mom, I love you." Eda smiled.
Gwen turned, holding baby Luz, " I love you too, witchlet."
And just like that, she was out the door.
